Owner/Technical Admin Sideways Posted August 7, 2007 Owner/Technical Admin Share Posted August 7, 2007 Shoulda gone with Rizon.
DZComposer
Oh, don't connect to the IRC through an open proxy. You'll get temp-banned by quakenet. Uhh, sorry to report, but I cant connect! No ident response care to elaborate? Check your firewall. The Java client works fine for me. Shoulda gone with Rizon. I see no reason why that network is better. There is less information available about it than there is for Quakenet anyway.
Mr. Krystal
The java client doesn't understand my username and doesn't let me connect. This is understandable because my username is no dwight_SFO. What's going on here and how can I make the java version work?
PuffNStuff
Thats exactly whats happening to me!
Owner/Technical Admin Sideways Posted August 8, 2007 Owner/Technical Admin Share Posted August 8, 2007 I woulda gone with rizon for simplcity reasons, quakenet doesn't have nickserv and probably is very difficult to set up a channel. Rizon has nickserv and chanserv, I am not sure that quakenet has chanserv.
DZComposer
Quakenet doesn't have those services, it does those things a different way. It uses the bots Q and L to handle those services. Also, what user names are you guys trying to use? The java client works fine for me so I can't see the issue.

Also, what user names are you guys trying to use? The java client works fine for me so I can't see the issue. I think the issue is that you have the forum software create names for us that is made up of "username_sfo" where username is your forum username. That isn't my IRC username. And unless you set a new one up with that username, obviously, IRC will not recognize it and not let us connect. How do you connect?
Owner/Technical Admin Sideways Posted August 9, 2007 Owner/Technical Admin Share Posted August 9, 2007 If any of you ever wanna meet me on IRC, feel free to hop on rizon and join #autobotiacon.
DZComposer
After you connect, you can always /nick name of choice (no spaces allowed in nicks) Though I do not understand why you can't connect at all. It should automatically connect you. What error message are you getting?
PuffNStuff
I beileve this is the one everyone is getting.... Error: Closing Link:PuffNStuff_SFO by underworld2.no.quakenet.org(USER:Bad username)
foxbird22
The IRC is working great for me. I will try to stay logged in at it whenever possible for you, DZ. I don't get why everybody is having problems.  I have Firefox, and got ChatZilla. Hopefully they clear up before the talk tomorrow. Should be another fun experience trying to get everyone's computers working right! :D
Owner/Technical Admin Sideways Posted August 10, 2007 Owner/Technical Admin Share Posted August 10, 2007 I get from quakenet: [12:37] Connecting... [12:37] Logging in... Mr. Krystal
I'd say we still have issues with IRC, so until we get those worked out, the main chat will be on Meebo, but we'll try to be on the IRC channel at the same time. Edit: I have to be somewhere at 6 PM and I don't know when I'll get back, but I'll try to hurry. Start without me, k?

DZComposer
'Bad username' refers to the user id that is between ! and @ in your address (i.e. nick!user@host). It must comply with some specific rules: * In a mixed-case name, if first char is upper, one more upper may appear anywhere. * A mixed-case name must have an upper first char, and may have one other upper. * A third upper may appear if all 3 appear at the beginning of the name, separated only by "others" (-/_/.). * A single group of digits is allowed anywhere. * Two groups of digits are allowed if at least one of the groups is at the beginning or the end. * Only one '-', '_', or '.' is allowed (or two, if not consecutive), but not as the first or last char. * No other special characters are allowed. * Name must contain at least one letter. mIRC users may change their User ID in the following way: Options > Email Options > connect > Identd. I don't understand the capitalization rules, but I guess it is a technical thing. I removed all capital leters from the username sections of the config file. Also, the IRC Chat will be open all day today if anyone wishes to drop by.
Mr. Krystal
Still not working. Here's the exact message I get: Connecting... DZComposer
Try using the "Change Nickname" box in the bottom right and try a different name and see if that works. Also, I removed (err... attempted to remove) the _SFO prefix.
