Desu is Japanese but for what you ask, I'm not exactly sure. I'm guessing its for I/am/are but I think its for please as well.

Desu is a word used to relate a subject and an adjective. You may think it's a dull meme, but it produced such fine things such as this:

There was a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time parody somewhere that referred to the Deku Tree as the Desu Tree.  It was intentional, not a mispronunciation.  I'm curious to know where that meme originated now.

The Desu meme began, as far as I can tell, as a tribute to the Rozen Maidens character Suiseiseki, who always uses the word.

And I just realized that we are leaving out my new favorite meme.
