ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
You guys are already helping me out. Here's a remixed version of the previous picture. http://transformerrobot.deviantart.com/art/Fox-McCloud-2-72431409 I think I just needed to rework Fox's muzzle a little bit. Four-eyed Vulpine
The line separating the sides of his muzzle does give it a sense of depth. Needed Improvements: -1) His neck probably needs to be a bit shorter, though. Reducing it by half should work. -2) There needs to be a line going down from the center of the nose to the mouth. -3) The upper half of his head needs to be raised a little bit. -4) The mic part of the headset is usually positioned to the left of the center of the mouth. -5) Those are the broadest shoulders I have ever seen. They'd look more realistic if they curved downward before the edge of the paper. Instead of starting out straight from the neck, have them angle slightly downward to begin with. -6) Practice shading. Shading is super-essential to make a two-dimensional drawing look like a three-dimensional subject. There are several instances where shading can be added, such as on the neck immediately under the muzzle, the faint shadow of the headset mic on the muzzle, where the headset covers the head, wrinkles in the scarf and jacket, etc.
Mr. Krystal
You guys are already helping me out. Here's a remixed version of the previous picture. I suppose it depends on what you're aiming for. When we hear someone say "it's pretty much perfect as it is now" when talking about their own work, it doesn't really sound right. There is nothing in this world that can't be improved slightly. If that's the image you were ultimately going for, then you're right. But if you're trying to produce artwork that is indistinguishable from official works by Nintendo or is otherwise unbelievably awesome in people's eyes other than your own, you will need to continue practicing. If so, the suggestions of Four-eyed Vulpine are a good start.
Four-eyed Vulpine
I suppose it depends on what you're aiming for. COMMANDER, exactly what kind of quality ARE you aiming for? When you tell everyone what you want in your art, the application of people's suggestions can help lead you there.
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
I'll maybe try to follow Vulpine's advice, except the next pic I do of Fox will be full body.
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
Here's a new one. I think I made a big improvement over the first few. http://transformerrobot.deviantart.com/art/Merry-Krystmas-72737326 Enjoy!
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
Here's the final version of it. http://transformerrobot.deviantart.com/art/Merry-Krystmas-2-72901161 Enjoy!
absoludicrous91
The final version is a definite improvement. Sure as heck its better than what I could do.
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
You think so absoludicrous? Thanks then!! I was a little bit concerned about how I did Krystal's mouth, but then I did a rough sketch to check my perspective, and decided it was okay. Mr. Krystal
Yeah, in future art pieces, focus on improving the muzzle. It's probably the hardest part of drawing an anthro.
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
I think Fox is enjoying what Krystal is doing. Do you think so? Also, I'll try to work more on her muzzle in future pictures. I could just make Krystal's mouth look more open, upload it to deviantART, and call it the third version, but that sounds like a big cash in, doesn't it? absoludicrous91
I think Fox is enjoying what Krystal is doing. Do you think so? What exactly do you mean...
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
I mean it wouldn't be a major improvement. Besides, Krystal's muzzles actually looks pretty good that way. The bottom half only looks bigger because her jaw has a slight incline downward when connecting to her cranium. (I feel so smart when I say scientific words). absoludicrous91
No, no. That's not what I meant. I meant, what do you mean by "interested in what she's doing".
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
I meant Fox likes that Krystal is dressed in nothing but a bikini, and she's affectionately standing behind him, holding his shoulders. In short, it's down right sexual. Anyway, here's a third version of it. http://transformerrobot.deviantart.com/art/Merry-Krystmas-3-72947353 Enjoy! All I did was fix Krystal's muzzle and sign the work myself.
absoludicrous91
If showing "that" was your intent (and I honestly hope it wasn't) then no, it really doesn't look like he's "enjoying" it.
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
I meant the expression on his face. It's as if he likes it when a sexy lady is showing him signs of affection.
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
This is my interpretation of the Star Wolf title. http://transformerrobot.deviantart.com/art/Star-Wolf-title-73046968 Evil looking isn't it? Do you think I made it look evil enough? I thought adding the pair of angry eyebrows would make it look like Wolf staring back at somebody, and the letters "a" and "o" were a pair of evil eyes. What do you guys think of it?
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
New one. It's hilarious! http://transformerrobot.deviantart.com/art/Why-Krystal-hates-Falco-73136557 Didn't you think it was funny?
Infinity
I'll be honest with you, you really need to work on some proportions. http://arwinglanding.net/gallery/index.php?cat=4 I'd take a look through the renders of Assault and Adventures for the best anatomically correct Starfox character references you'll find. I went through the same artistic phase you are going through right now two years ago when I first started drawing. I had a terrible grasp on anatomy and took me awhile to learn to just sit back and accept critique, but dude you really need to sit back and accept that critique. I'd be willing to give you one of my heavy critiques, but I don't know if you're ready for that yet. Let me know if you want one. We want you to keep on drawing, don't get me wrong, but remember it is a big learning process.
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
I don't care for critiques. I only ask for them out of curiosity. I just wanted to know if any of you thought it was funny.
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
Look, nothing in art is perfect. What he said. I'm just shooting for art that is good and simple (And maybe even better). That's how my Star Fox related art style is. Furthermore, that person on devinatART who's been adding some of my work to his favorites, it's someone named Anthan. I still don't know who's opinion to trust. Yours, or Anthan's. Mr. Krystal
Have a look at this one: http://j-fujita.deviantart.com/art/Krystal-in-Dinosaur-Planet-8890095 Pretty good huh? This fanart is one of the best Krystal fanarts ever made and is many people's favorite. However, even then, I can see at least one thing wrong. And this artist has been around for years and years. So please, don't take it personally when you are given a critique. We only want you to improve, to help you. Now, if you want to keep the style you currently have, that's fine, but you have to understand that the reason we keep critiquing you is because your style has the EXACT same properties as many, many other learning artists just beginning to draw characters. If you keep this style, your art will be indistinguishable from the "new artist style."
ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
You're right and I'm sorry. But like I said earlier, did you think my comic strip was funny? If so, which part did you like? Krystal's expression, or when she slams Falco right in the face?
Mr. Krystal
I don't really get the joke, but the expression on Krystal's face in the second frame is hilarious. It's also better drawn. That's how you're supposed to render a muzzle when looking directly at it, so good job!
