The Fourth Planet

Looking around this part of the forum, one might say, "It's quiet...too quiet." So I'm going to have a run with an idea that I've had knocking around for a while and see how well it goes.

Changing of the Guard

The headline of the day on The Corneria City Times was hideously large, even for a newspaper with a reputation of ostentatiousness: "Welcome, Commissioner Pendragon!"

Through the main thoroughfare of Corneria City, a grand parade was in full swing to celebrate the accession of the new Commissioner of the Lylat League, a green, middle-aged chameleon. The chameleon was in a hovercar cruising gently down the street, waving to the citizenry. An otter wearing a scarlet military uniform was seated near the chameleon, looking around vigilantly.

"Come, General Hobbes," said the chameleon in a refined accent. "Now is the time to smile. The problems of the past are gone now."

"Doubtful," said the otter. "Commissioner Pendragon, I wish you didn't take things so lightly. Look at those civilians. Most of 'em are holding up signs saying, 'Down With the Chameleon-Hawk' and the like. You do understand that you're not very popular, don't you?"

Commissioner Kendrick Pendragon rolled his trenchant blue eyes to the otter. "Alexander, you are young and unfamiliar with the ways of politics. So I am not presently well-received. It is no great deal. It simply means I have to prove myself before I earn their loyalty."

The otter general resumed looking around sulkily. To him, the crowd of hecklers and jeering cat-callers was getting increasingly restless, and it troubled him. He swore that a particularly rowdy bunch had a few bricks in their hands...

Rise From the Ashes

Stepping lively, the raccoon headed along further through the lavish mansions of uptown Corneria City. He stopped at a street corner to reach into his pocket and fish out the letter he had received just earlier that day. He muttered the words aloud to himself.

"Nathaniel, come to my house as soon as you get the opportunity. I have something very important to give to you. Sincerely, George Phoenix."

Nathaniel shrugged and put the letter back in his pocket. George "Tribune" Phoenix was one of the members of the Commission that dictated the politics of the Lylat League. Nathaniel was still in wonder as to what a mighty politician like George Phoenix wanted with a lowly Captain in the Cornerian Defence Fleet like himself. The raccoon continued his walk, puzzling over this.

"If only that stupid parade weren't jamming traffic up to no end, I could at least get a ride," Nathaniel grimaced. It was still a few blocks to Phoenix Manor. Nathaniel wished he could at least run into someone around here; all the patricians of the neighbourhood were at the big parade downtown, making this end of Corneria City feel like a small ghosttown...

The Wretched

At the ABC Cafe near Corneria City University, a number of radical students were drinking glumly. Holographs of the Commissioner's parade were broadcasting inside, bringing down the atmosphere to abysmal levels. In particular desperation were the political science students, who were speaking in downcast tones.

"The Tribune'd have been the one for the job."

"Why Pendragon?"

"Shady dealings is why."

"Yeah, that shake-up in the military is only the start."

The ABC Cafe was the off-campus hot spot for the local students, and today it was packed. Despite that, it was eerily quiet, save for the mumblings of ordering another round of drinks and the clinking of glasses against tables. There were all the makings of a dramatic moment at hand: a prime, cinematic moment for someone to walk in and say just the right thing to spark something big...

Alright, then. You can introduce your character in any one of these three locales as an introductory point. Your character doesn't have to be a soldierly type necessarily; he/she can be a protestor at the parade, a civilian passing by Nathaniel, or a student at the cafe. For right now, it would probably facilitate things to have only one character at the moment; if this goes successfully, that limit will be removed. The setting, for clarity's sake, is Corneria City shortly after any one of the endings of Command. You don't need to have played Command to understand this; this RP is meant to be as open as it can functionally be right now. The only other rule I can think of to apply at the present is, put plainly, to enjoy this. Let's kick this pig.
