Mostly done by ear, with some references. Trying to figure out how to do the drum bit, though. Definitely not my finest performance, though. That thunking noise you hear is the keys springing back and rebounding (they're weighted to give a piano-like feel, but it feels nothing like any piano I've ever played). We're actually gonna get rid of it and replace it with a nice acoustic piano (maybe a tall upright or medium sized grand) soon.

Somebody remix the Command soundtrack to sound higher quality, for god's sake! Or give me .MIDIS so I can attempt doing so myself.

I could probably send you the SF64 samples I ripped. I'm unsure if whether or not Star Fox Command MIDIs exist though.

I'm not worried about SF64, it's Command specifically. That game actually had some pretty good music but the quality of the instruments is rather dreadful. Even if it was run through the instrument samples in Reason they'd sound sooo much better.

How did you manage to rip sounds from SF64? I thought it's weird file structure broke tools that tried to rip from it.

Also, the Sector Y waltz there is the bane of my existence. I have been trying for years to do a ballroom waltz arrangement of it, but I fail every time. :(

As far as SFC MIDIs, you'd probably have to work off of fanmade MIDIs as I think the SFC music was actual audio and not MIDI

SFC uses midi like files and uses custom soundfonts from what I can see.

I found some tools to extract from nds roms various data files, and I found 2 tools to convert nds music files into midis. So you'll have to find the rom yourself. But I'm not sure if the no linking to roms site policy also apply to non roms distributing rom hacking websites.

So I'll at least give you the names of what you need :

- VGMTrans : Absolutely horrible and crashy, but its the most user-(un)friendly to use. Don't bother using the buttons on the toolbar, they don't do anything. You'll have to drag and drop a nds rom, or a .sdat file on the program, then in the bar at the bottom center click on a sequence, then look for .sseq files in either of the 2 boxes to the left. Right click on the .sseq and select "export to midi" choose a filename, and it should export a midi. It should..

- ndssndext : simple command line program, just drag and drop a nds rom on its icon in explorer, and it will spit out midis, wav samples, and something else I don't remember..

-There also sseq2midi, but you need to extract the sseq yourself, there are a couple of extractors floating around, or you can run "ndssndext" with the "-x" param in a command prompt. Or you can create a shortcut and add the "-x" to the shortcut's path in its properties, after the quotes, and then drag and drop the rom files on the shortcut.

However, on my pc some tune were missing huge parts, and some came out right, I assume it must be a compatibility problem with my processor or with win7, or my rom was bad. All the midi instruments tracks are set to piano though.

You have problems with your soundcard driver, or not enough RAM, the song is not mixing properly... maybe you've done it on purpose, but maybe not. I don't know, but there is a hearable delay between the instrument lines in the first two songs...

Anyway, they sound good.

It's supposed to sound like that. If you listened to the main instrument in SF64's menu theme you'll know this.

I think I finally managed to replicate F-Zero X's style of music. Sort of. :P

Also I apologize for that goof up in the organ at the beginning of the song, I don't why but B4 II always does that whenever I try to extend the song length... :/

Can you install XP Mode on windows 8 ? I can run with that most of those utils that don't like 64bits and etc..

I think I'm getting better at this. :D

That sounds pretty cool ! The only problem I see, is that I'm too busy appreciating the music than listening to voice communications XD

Also, I stumbled on this looking for new sf midis on vgmusic :

I based it off F-Zero X's style of music, mostly inspired by Tony Thai's replication of it, using various Roland SC-88 and DR-660 samples from soundfonts and what not, and using a demo version of Guitar Rig 5 and B4 II to get the organ and guitar sounds. :-)

You can check out his channel here, lots of awesome F-Zero X-style covers: http://www.youtube.com/user/midiman10

That issue with the N64 sound ripper turned out to be a dependency problem. Dependency Hell is usually a word for Linux, but I had to install the right version of the 8,000 versions oc MS Visual C++. I really hate it when software developers fail to mention the dependencies needed.

That chord at :55... I don't like it. Other than that, it's a nice piece.
