PuffNStuff
Ya know, F the movie. I think that they shopuld introduce a kickass comic series with AWESOME art. Then with a great story. Only then could they justify a movie. I think the SF should evolve the stroy a bit using a comic that is official. BTW i dont think a SF64 plot is a good idea. People want to see something NEW. That way, it could be used as a canon storyline.
Rapidfire
While I'd like to rally around the notion of a StarFox comic, the only thing I'd worry about in that respect is how willing Nintendo would be to let the writing staff be creative. Big corporations of Ninty's magnitude would probably keep a vigilant eye on how their franchise is being portrayed by non-Nintendo people, and the moment something rubbed Nintendo the wrong way, even if it was perfectly legitimate for the comic, would be the moment that comic heard its dirge. ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
Well, I can come up with a few plot differences for a movie if you guys want something new: -James McCloud is a solo fighter pilot for the Cornerian Army. -Star Fox starts out as a shipping crew. They become Star Fox after using Corneria's experimental Arwing star fighters to repel invading enemy forces. -Andross leads Venom into a conquest, convincing them to occupy other planets and strip mine them of their natural resources, since Venom used up it's own resources. -Cerinia is occupied by Andross's forces instead of destroyed, and Krystal's parents rule the planet prior to the incident. Seventy five percent of the population is killed, while Venom relieves the planet of it's oceans, soil, and plant life. -Krystal gets away from Cerinia, and seeks outside help to stop Scales. She is attacked by Venomian troops on Katina, but Fox kills the enemy troops and saves her. -General Scales is a powerful commanding officer in the Venomian army, and undr Andross's orders, controls Cerinia as it's dictator. -Peppy is a former flight instructor. -Falco is an ex-convict working off community service. Well, that's all I've got.
DZComposer
When did this myth start that anything content rated below PG-13 sucked? I've seem good G movies and (MANY MANY MANY) downright horrible PG-13 and R rated movies. I'm happy if there is an SF movie, ecstatic if it doesn't have a cheesy storyline (even though it likely would have one). I care about story. I don't give a crap about what the MPAA film ratings board says (in terms of judging movie quality). You CAN have a good story without blood or cursing. ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
Does that mean it would be a bad idea for Andross's plot in the film to strip different planets of their natural resources and use them for Venom? I came up with that because we don't want the movie's plot to be too similar to that of any of the games. The reason I thought a Star Fox movie would be rated at least PG is because it's dark and war torn, but most characters are humanoid animals, which is usually targeted towards children (Ala Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). There has been a few exceptions in this case, such as Brian Jacques' Redwall novels, and the animated television adaption in 1999. Every single character in the Redwall universe is a humanoid animal, but most of the time they have to try and kill each other. It was because of it's darkness and high number of character deaths that I tended to rather dislike the animated series as a child. It wasn't comical and wacky like Sonic or Donkey Kong, with the exception of a supporting character named Basil Stag Hare, who was a little witty, always wanting to fight off enemy characters. Still, despite this, Redwall, to me, appealed more towards a teenage audience. And DZC, I very much agree with in the way that not everything rated below PG-13 sucks. It just depends on what you like in stories. Most of us want Star Fox to have an epic feel, even if the movie isn't rated PG-13. I'll try the plot thing again, and we'll see what MPAA rating it would be more aimed for (Although it would depend on if viewers see anything): The movie opens up with General Pepper narrating how long ago, Corneria and Venom were at war. Corneria sought peace and freedom, while Venom sought tyranny and oppression, thanks to their leadership under Andross, a mad scientist turned ruthless dictator. A high ranking fighter pilot named James McCloud attempted to take down Andross himself, but it is believed he was killed in action. Corneria and Venom remained at war for the years to come. James' son, Fox, and his younger sister Fara, are devastated to hear from a news report that James is dead. Fox vows vengeance on Andross for his father's death. Fearing Fox could go against Andross, Pepper put Fox and Fara in the foster care of Peppy Hare, a wise old flight instructor from the Cornerian Military Academy, as well as legally arranging for Fox to take a casual job not involving the military. Years later, Fox is working a relaxing life as a crew member on a cargo freighter, with Peppy and Fara joining him as well. They're not alone on the job, as other members of the crew include Slippy Toad, Fox's best friend since kindergarten, and Falco Lombardi, a former space biker working off some of community service. The crew is shipping some iron ore from a mine on Katina, when their ship is attacked by Venomian fighters. Fara manages to pilot the ship back to Corneria City, just in time to land it at a Cornerian military base. Pepper informs them that Venom is after the resources of other planets, such as the iron ore they collected. The base has 4 experimental Cornerian star fighters called Arwings nearby. Remembering his experience in flight school, Fox proposes to Pepper that he and his team use the Arwings to fight off the enemy invaders, but out of concern the General refuses. Given the conditions on the battle field, Pepper allows Fox to go with the plan anyway. Fox, Falco, Peppy, and Slippy take off, while Fara stays behind. Fox and his wingmen repel the enemy forces. As a reward, Pepper gives Fox and the team the Arwings for keeps, as well as a plentiful supply of weapons and ammunition. Their cargo freighter is also refitted with weaponry, and named the Great Fox. The team then forms as Star Fox, with Fox as the leader, Falco as the gunner, Slippy as the technician, and Peppy as the tactical adviser. Fara stands as the Great Fox's pilot, assisted by a robot named ROB 64. I'll finish this later. EDIT: Allow me to continue. I hope it sounds dark enough for PG-13: Later on, Star Fox is navigating through the asteroid belt around Corneria. They are ambushed by enemy ships, but manage to defeat them. In the same battle, Star Fox meets Air Marshal Rancid, and Sgt. Caiman, a pair of Andross's officers. The 2 of them battle Star Fox with their Rock Crusher, but are defeated, forcing them to retreat. Andross asks them if anything went wrong, and after they tell him of their defeat, grows furious, and states that they will be executed if they fail again. Star Fox's next mission is to help defend a Cornerian base on Katina from enemy forces. They arrive, and Fara insists in going with Fox to help her brother, but Fox refuses saying she'll get hurt. However, during the battle, Slippy has to retreat back into the ship, so Fox allows Fara to use one of their spare Arwings to help out, seeing as they are one pilot short in battle. With Fara's help, as well as help from Fox's old friend Bil Grey, Star Fox destroys the enemy mothership, saving the base. Meanwhile, Caiman and Rancid receive orders from Andross to look for outside help, because Star Fox has so far been very successful in stopping Venomian objectives. The two find outside help in the form of a band of space pirates called Star Wolf. Star Wolf consists of the mean-spirited Wolf O'Donnell, the psychopathic Leon Powalski, the slow-witted Pigma Dengar, and Andross's mad scientist nephew Andrew Oikonny. Star Wolf sees Star Fox as a threat to their business, and accepts the job offer from Andross, in condition that Caiman and Rancid accompany them in their mission. As Star Wolf sets out after Star Fox, Star Fox is foiling an enemy water salvage operation on Zoness. They're assisted by Katt Monroe, Falco's ex-girlfriend. Katt broke up with Falco because she thought he was reckless. Nevertheless, the mission is a success, and the enemy base is destroyed. Fara picks up a homing signal on Titania, and tells the rest of the team that it's a distress call. Fox declares that they set out and look for the beacon. I'll finish it later. EDIT #2: Here we go again: When Star Fox arrives on Titania, Fox decides that the team should try out their tank called the Landmaster. When asked if he'd try it, Falco turned down the opportunity saying he'll "take the sky any day.". As a result, Slippy takes charge of operating the Landmaster for the mission, while Fox, Falco, Peppy, and Fara take care of any problems in the skies. The team works their way through dangerous areas, fighting off enemy units, until they reach the beacon's location. The beacon comes from Krystal, a blue furred vixen trapped in the claw of a giant parasite like monster (Similar to the one from Star Fox 64). She tries to break free by striking it's claw with her staff, but it doesn't do any good. Fox and Falco attack from the skies, while Slippy gives them ground fire. Slippy ends up stuck under the monster's foot is about to be crushed, but Falco kills the monster by hitting it in the chest with a bomb. Krystal is left falling to the ground, but Fox catches her in his cockpit. Star Fox takes Krystal aboard the Great Fox, and she introduces herself as the princess of a tropical planet called Cerinia. Cerinia is occupied by Andross's forces, and ruled as a dictatorship by General Scales, another of Andross's minions. Scales' armada has killed off the planet's armed forces, and nearly 3 quarters of the Cerinian population. One such victim of the invasion was Krystal's older brother, Sabre, who Scales tortured to death for going against Andross. Fara tells Krystal that she and Fox have suffered similar losses to her. Before James McCloud died, Fox and Fara's mother was Vixy Reynard. Vixy died in a car bomb planted by Venomian troops 7 years ago. Star Fox is given permission by General Pepper to help Cerinia because of the situation, and Cerinia is Corneria's closest ally. While Star Fox sets off for Krystal's troubled home world, Star Wolf stops at a scuzzy bar on a planet called Macbeth. Wolf interrogates the bartender to tell him where Star Fox is, and out of fear, the bartender tells Wolf where the Fox Team is heading. Star Wolf leaves afterwards, not before Leon sets fire too a nearby dumpster, which fascinates him and Wolf, but frightens Pigma. I'll finish it later when I get home. EDIT #3: Finally I get to finish this one! Star Fox arrives on Cerinia, which turns out to be just like Krystal said it had become. General Scales has Krystal's parents, King Allan and Queen Kira, locked up in his fortress called the Dragon Rock. Scales is informed that 4 inbound fighters are attacking, so he orders an immediate open fire on them. Star Fox fights back and makes it to the Dragon Rock. Scales deploys a large machine called the Dancing Insector, and fights Fox one on one. Krystal informs Star Fox that her parents are in the fortress, so Peppy and Slippy use some small explosives to blow a hole in the Dragon Rock, and get inside to rescue Allan and Kira. Alan and Kira are evacuated, and Fox defeats Scales, possibly killing him in the process. Alan and Kira are restored to their rightful positions, reunited with their daughter, and Cerinia hails Star Fox as heroes. Later that night, Star Fox takes part in a celebration of Cerinia regaining it's freedom. Fox and Krystal get to know each other, and the 2 have been secretly hiding romantic feelings towards each other since they first met. Fox says he likes how Krystal reminds her of Fara, and Krystal likes Fox because he reminds her of Sabre. The next day, Star Fox bids farewell to Cerinia. Fox has a hard time saying goodbye to Krystal, but promises her that he'll come back to see her after he defeats Andross. Once they return to Lylat, General Pepper gives Star Fox a briefing of their next mission, recovering an allied base from the enemy army. Star Fox accepts the mission, naturally, and arrive in time to defend the base. The mission doesn't quite go as planned, as ROB discovers that there's a bomb at the base, and Star Fox is ambushed by Star Wolf. Star Wolf flees after their defeat in a dogfight with Star Fox. Fara manages to take out the bomb before it can do any major damage, and Star Fox returns to Corneria, only to discover that it has been devastated by an enemy attack, which Pepper informs about. Fox feels overwhelmingly guilty for what happened, and is also furious. The team fights the enemy invaders, and end up in another battle with Caiman and Rancid, this time using a large machine called Destructor. Star Fox destroys Destructor, killing Rancid, but Caiman escapes. It is now the final straw. Star Fox goes directly to Venom. They first have to break through Andross's space armada, and after defeating a large craft called the Great Commander, go directly to Venom. The team breaks through Andross's final defenses, and are right at Andross's base. However, Star Fox must defeat Star Wolf one more time. The battle is much more difficult this time, with Star Wolf now using their new Wolfen lls, and Peppy and Slippy forced to leave the battlefield. Fara fills in for them, but they are still unable to deal much damage to their rival squadron. Their luck turns, as Bill and Katt show up to give cover fire. The leveling of the playing field results in Star Wolf's defeat. Fox announces that he will go in and face Andross himself, but the rest of the team protests. Falco makes a small confession that even though he never acted like it, he really likes working with Star Fox. Fox enters Andross's strong hold, and meets the wicked ape at what appears to be Venom's core. Andross appears in the form of a giant, floating version of his head, with a pair of hands. Fox destroys Andross's main form, and is shocked to see Andross's true form, a giant floating brain with a pair of eyes. Fox defeats the brain, but Andross tries to kill Fox with his self-destruction. Luckily, Fox is guided out of the base by what seems to be James McCloud. Fox returns to the Great Fox, just as Andross's base explodes behind him. The rest of the team is relieved, but Peppy asks Fox if something's wrong, because Fox is looking off into the sky. Fox says nothing is wrong. Once they return to Corneria, each of Star Fox's members receive a medal for bravery. Pepper asks if they want to join the Cornerian army, but they turn it down. Star Fox returns to the Great Fox. The film closes with Fox visiting Krystal, just like he promised her. Fox and Krystal sit on a peaceful hill top, watching the sunset. Andross is heard laughing evilly, stating that he will return from death one day, and have hi revenge on those who destroyed him. There, I think this plot is much more suited towards a PG-13 rating. Sabre
You CAN have a good story without blood or cursing. Agreed, (esp on the cursing. Makes them sound like teenagers.) but it also adds something. Case point, TMNT, good film, but characters with bladed weapon never get a good strike. Reasons being kid friendly, and sharp=blood spillage. Case point 2, in the game 'action man' for PS1, you blow up cars and shoot baddies in the head with a crossbow, but they are classed as 'arrested'. In a film about fighter pilots and soldiers, robots would be fine, but having people 'injured' buring a large alien shootout seems a bit weird. ARWINGCOMMANDER 3987
Another thing for the film that would affect it's content rating is comic relief. An example would be the part I came up with where Slippy tries to kill the Titanian parasite that's got Krystal, Slippy ends up stuck under it's foot, so Slippy replies "Da@#it! Why didn't I shoot the foot?! It would have made more sense right?!". Another one would be when Fox catches Krystal in his cockpit, she's positioned awkwardly over him, as if in an intimately sexual manner (This would also be the scene where they first fall in love). The sound of rapid heart beats for each of them one-by-one would also add a cute effect.
PuffNStuff
we want the rating now the options for the scenes. Thats in another thread i think
Four-eyed Vulpine
For the sake of continuity, PG-13. It's been rated T already, so why not? Besides, the rating would allow for full realism without the inclusion of obscenity.
