Microsoft marketing inspired by ROB64?

I am an IT professional by trade, and today at work my boss showed my an advertisement for Windows Server 2008, which is essentially the server version of Vista (supposedly without the suck, but we'll see about that).

The robot in the ad looked a little familiar....

Meet IT24-7 (Yes, that's a blade server chassis in it's chest).

Is Beltino Toad working for Microsoft now?

It reminded me of a "beefier" ROB64....

Yeah, it isn't a blatant ripoff, but the similarity is striking.

To me at least....

Did I mention that it was a pain in the ass getting that pic of IT 24-7 without installing wannabe-Flash Silverlight?

I see what you mean, but at the same time rob looks like c3po with a toster on his face.

I think alot of humanoid robos will look alike.

Sabre's probably right. iRobot's robots have the same basic shape as well. There's not many other way of making a humanoid robot look humanoid and robotic without looking like any of the examples anyway. :)

C-3PO was rounder, and looked much more humanoid than either robot here.

The I-Robot one is also a bit more round that these two as well. Concentrate on the head and torso shapes.

Yes, many sentient robots have similar features, but I think these two have a lot more in common than, say the iRobot one and ROB.

Servo from the sims.

I think they are quite differant below the waist.

Also the NS4s from Irobot, and some robot CGI film off ages ago. I forget the name. They look quite similar also.

Above the waist, yes. Given how comon this design is, I don't think it was plagerism though, just coincidence.
