Lately, I've been having problems connecting to www.google.com.  It hasn't been able to connect for about three weeks straight, and all the other computers in the network, wired and wireless, can get it.  In addition, I can access www.yahoo.com, but the search function doesn't work for me.  I can access all other sites just fine, though.  Any suggestions?

Sounds like a virus. Run a virus scan, clear your cache, remove cookies, etc.

Sounds like a virus. Also make sure the homepage or shortcut (if your using one) is right.

Also, try updating your browser if available. Firefox used to have problems connecting to CVG. Lastly, ctrl-Alt-del, check in processes and see if anything striks you as odd, or shouldn't be there. You might have a torrent program running in the background or something.

What browser are you using? What OS is on the PC? Have you tried clearing cache and cookies? If you're using firefox, turn off all extensions and try. If it works, turn them on one at a time and update/uninstall the one that breaks it.

What do you mean by can't connect? Is it a DNS error (can not find site) or a time out error (server not responding)?

Can you ping www.google.com from a command line?

It could be a piece of malware, but it could also be a browser issue (not every case of a computer acting strange is related to malware). Try a different browser if you haven't already.

Well, I cleared all of my private data, cache, and cookies, disabled all of my Mozilla Firefox add ons, checked both MF and IE browsers, ran virus scans and deleted problems, and checked for browser updates, and so far, nothing has worked.

I tried pinging the site through the command prompt, but it timed out all four times.

When trying to access the site, I get an error saying that the connection has timed out, and that the server is taking too long to respond.

By the way, my OS is Windows XP Media Center Edition.

I'm considering saving all of my things onto an external hard drive and performing a system restore to a point a few weeks ago before this problem occurred.  I'm not sure if it will work, though.

Sometimes, you just need to do a full re-install. Back when I used Windows, I would reformat my computer once a year or so.

While I'm here I may as well ask about my situation too.

Lately I've been having a lot of problems with my wireless connection. It's usually when I'm on my laptop and my mum is simultaneously on our home computer.

It seems to partially connect but refuses to work on either of them, or will barely work on the home computer but not on my laptop.

I don't remember it doing this before and I've only had my laptop a few months.

We reset everything via the plugs and then turn it back on to no avail but at times it will start to work seemlessly.

Any help is appreciated.

My laptop uses Vista whereas the other computer uses XP and our router is Linksys.

FEV: Go to C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetc and open the file hosts with notepad (you may need to go into folder options and enable show hidden files and show protected operating system files). Post contents here.

I am concerned that all of those search-related sites were pointing to a server in the Ukraine. That is a very suspicious thing, usually caused by some sort of malware.

You machine may be or may have been compromised. Make sure you run antivirus software and get the latest Windows updates if you haven't already. Also, run a rootkit scanner just to be safe.

I did notice a popcap loader in the hijack this log. Be careful. Popcap is a know adware distributor, but other than that I did not see anything suspicious. That doesn't mean you aren't still compromised, though.

I think I set it WEP a while ago so my DS could play Wifi but to connect my laptop and Wii I didn't need to actually input the WEP key for some reason
