Has Nintendo forsaken us?

While Wii Sports Resort and Wii Music look interesting, they are not things I am going to dream about playing until launch. I never got into Animal Crossing nor GTA.

Nintendo is chasing the casual market full-force now. They have forgotten those of us who stood behind them since the NES. Those that stayed true during the Gamecube. Those who defended the Wii concept.

Is the Wii a fad? That we do not know yet. If it is, then Nintendo has set themselves up for disaster. If they show their appreciation for their fans by ignoring them, then what is to stop them from jumping ship?

I honestly do not recognize this company anymore. It upsets me that they are only trying to sell to my mother and offering nothing to myself.

I've been such a strong supporter of Nintendo, even as others began talking this way. But now, I am finally starting to see the writing on the wall.

Are Star Fox, Metroid, Mother, F-Zero, Pikmin, etc. now things of the past? Doomed to the list of series past? (There will always be Zelda and Mario, I do not think Nintendo is THAT stupid.)

Now is the time to start writing e-mails and letters to Nintendo. Let them know that we didn't abandon them, so they shouldn't abandon us.

This is a sad day for Nintendo fans. Nintendo better do something to make up for this. Sooner rather than later.

Is it possible, they are becoming as lazy and passionless as Microsoft? Let's hope not. If they do, I'm boycotting the company.

At least we have new Wario and Kirby games on the way.

Oh, big deal. I've already seen enough Kirby and Wario. We never see enough Star Fox related news, so that's what I want to see.

I haven't. It's been almost as long since the last Kirby game as Star Fox Command.

With a series like Star Fox, we will just have to be patient. I mean, look at the Metroid series. There was NOTHING the entire N64 era. Then they get three GBA games, two GC games, a DS game, and a Wii game in only a couple of years.

Indeed, Nintendo is persistently pursuing the casual gamer market, and it is clear that the money they are raking in as a result is astronomical. I have to hand it to Iwata: he could sell a glass of water to a drowning man.

If the Wii is a fad, it's a bloody profitable one in spite of everything that suggests it should not be so popular; notably, the tonnes of Wii-ware in lieu of the variety of franchises for which the company is known. Granted, by this point in the Wii's life span there should be at least one F-Zero and StarFox game out now. But as far as fans jumping ship, there are two things worth consideration: one, Nintendo has a unique touch to most of its principal franchise games that are not likely to be recreated anywhere else. Two, even if fans do abandon Nintendo, it's making enough money that the boycotters will scarcely make a dent in sales. Devoted gamers are always a minority, and it would be neither profitable nor consequently reasonable for Ninty to appease them at the expense of their larger base (see continued outrage among professional Smash players in the Melee-Brawl transition). If Nintendo were to be stopped, it should have come two or three generations ago when Sega and Sony posed legitimate threats.

To this end, I highly doubt the list of series past will start including old favourites unless Nintendo execs have become exceedingly flippant with consumer expectations. As much as they can shovel out the lousy Wii-Ware products, they (ostensibly) know that mentioning Metroid, F-Zero, Fire Emblem, EarthBound, etc. will be like waving meat in front of hungry wolves. How that continues to work is miraculous, since most Nintendo games are the same premise revisited with different settings or gimmicks in every incarnation anyway, but I digress...the point to which I'm laboriously struggling is that presenting judgement on Nintendo after E3 may yet prove hasty. Big conferences have shown good news received frostily (Fils-Aimee announcing Brawl's release), news that never played out (E3 demos of StarFox 2 before its cancellation), and news that took an abrupt left turn (the Spaceworld showing of what later transformed into Wind Waker). Has Nintendo forsaken us? If the only things we see produced on the Wii as far as franchises are Brawl, Corruption, Mario Kart Wii, Galaxy, Radiant Dawn, Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing, and then a slew of Wii-Ware, the answer is clear. But until such time as we see that some franchises either step out for a generation and be renewed a la Metroid or their titles are released in this generation, it might be too early to condemn Nintendo.

I personally bought my Wii for the Virtual Console aspect of the system, as well as some of the Wii games like Twilight Princess and SSBB. I personally would love to see another Star Fox game, but to be honest, my interest in Star Fox died completly after Assault. Nintendo has some work to do. I, like everyone, wants to see some good games. I want to see what kind of Zelda game Nintendo makes now for the Wii. Nintendo needs to make it better or as good as Twilight Princess was. That game was immensely fun, but yet still never achieved the fame like Ocarina of Time did.

I want to see some more games that I recgonize on the Virtual Console. Half these games they are releasing I don't know. Where are all the good N64 games like Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie, etc? It would be nice if somehow Nintendo could also re-release classic Gameboy and Gameboy Color games, seeing as the DS can still support GBA games. I for one would love to see games like Link's Awakening and Ages and Seasons, as well as the classic Pokemon games, like Red, Blue and Yellow, Gold and Silver. The series, IMO, was too much after Gold and Silver.

I myself have moven away from Nintendo for the time because I also have an Xbox360, and it does have some stellar games. I really enjoy Rock Band, and some racing games like the Need for Speed series. GTA4 is an okay game, but Rock Band is the most fun I have ever had. It's too bad Guitar Hero has to go and copy them. Guitar Hero is lame in comparison to Rock Band. Though they share some similar songs, Rock Band has an overall better selection and they are actually fun to play on the harder difficulty settings, unlike Guitar Hero.

I don't mean how recent they were. I mean compare the number of Kirby games to the number of Star Fox games. There were about 20 different Kirby games and only 5 Star Fox games. Also about 13 Wario games.

Exactly.

I don't think Nintendo has 'forsaken' anyone just it was showing off it's new games for the casual audience.

They can't announce everything at once because in a year or so the games would run dry unless they churned them out constantly, and Nintendo take their time with their IPs and put as much effort in as possible. Just be patient.

We got new Kirby details and a belated Wario Land sequel is on the way as well as a new online AC with voice chat so it's not exactly bad to be a Nintendo gamer at the moment.

It's still a bit of a mistake. They're not getting us hyped or excited for anything which can be a big problem since E3 is quite popular still, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Nintendo fans WILL leave if Nintendo does not make games they want to play. Would you buy a game you did not want to play? I wouldn't and don't.

Nintendo's fans have helped prevent Nintendo from going Sega. We didn't abandon Nintendo when the "core gamers" did.

Remember: We are Nintendo fans because we like Nintendo games.

If the Wii is a fad, and the bottom falls out of sales in a year or so, then what? I'm not saying that will happen, but...

Exactly, but I won't give up just yet. If they go the next few years and on Star Fox game, then we'll talk.

A fad? Really? I mean, this is Nintendo we're talking about. Would you call Mario a fad? Pokemon was a "fad." Bad thing? No. Every time they release a new Pokemon game, TODAY, ten years after the "fad," they make millions, if not billions.

I don't know how fast you guys play games, but I've up to my neck in games to play and beat. There's Okami, Insecticide, Boom Blox, Lost Winds, Sonic Chronicles, Zack and Wiki, Sonic Unleashed, and Phantom Hourglass. Maybe you people should expand your horizons just a bit. Play a game that doesn't have Mario or Fox in it. Dare I say it, try a casual game. Tetris never hurt anybody (seriously, Tetris DS is awesome if you can find one).

Pikmin 3 was confirmed in development by Miyamoto last night.

This could be a good thing, but it's still not Star Fox.
