starfox.com is gone!

Star Fox Runner

Recommended Posts

Just out of curiosity I tried to visit Star Fox's official site and its gone. When it was trying to connect it kept switching back and forth between these urls.

www.starfox.com

http://redirect.nintendo.com/domclean2.pl?www.starfox.com/

This could be a sign people, this could mean a new Star Fox game is coming! The only reason I can think of for taking down the site is to redesign it for the release of Star Fox Wii. Or I could be jumping the gun.

Opinions please!!!

The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

Nope! It turns out that several Nintendo mini-sites have been taken down by Nintendo. The webmaster said that they are supposed to redirect to Nintendo, but are having issues.

Until about 3 days ago, starfox.com would work for Mac users such as myself, but after bringing the Windows issue to their attention, they made it fail for all OSs. Good thing I was backing up the sites at the time. I have all the files, except for a couple. They will be posted up in a couple days, and other sites.

Also, Metroid.com is down for Windows, as far as I know, so I plan to back that up too, since I can still access it.

Did you get starfox.com/testflight?

Not a lot of Star Fox fans even know about that part of the website. If you look a the cover of Nintendo Power issue 189 http://www.theconsoler.com/wiki/images/Np189.jpg there is a hidden text on the cover that reads /testflight. Apparently when you typed that into the starfox.com url up came a special website about the Star Fox Assault Blockbuster / Hollywood Video promotion. It was removed when the URL was updated for Star Fox Command.

Is there a thread here with all the voice clips from Star Fox 64?

No, I didn't. And now it's too late to get it. -_-

As for the voice clips, check out the main site:

That's too bad.  :( I know there were 2 wallpapers you could download from there. I had my hands on them at one time but thanks to my stupidity of not backing up my data, I lost them.  :(

It's offical, the site is gone. The redirect has been fixed and points to Nintendo.com.

Don't take this as a "we're getting a new game" thing. They wouldn't do it this way. Likely they have begun removing GCN game sites to regain disk space and other resources consumed by the sites.

No. Space isn't their problem. They had these sites when they weren't popular. They have more money now, there's no reason they need to be careful with their space. They are simply trying to consolidate all sites into one, even though they won't be doing a good job of it, so far as we've seen.

I know it doesn't necessarily mean that there is new Star Fox coming.

But you can't stop wishful thinking.  :D

How much money the company has  is not so much the issue as how important IT is to Nitnendo, and how much they decide to let IT have. If the executives feel that their IT infrastructure is adequate, they likely won't just give money to IT. Servers are not cheap. Giving them, say, $25,000 extra for the year will only buy one, maybe two depending on specs, good servers.

Websites are marketing tools. Even if the game has lost popularity, if it is current, leave the site up. Obviously, the site isn't current anymore. If I were in charge of IT (or Marketing for that matter), I'd want it taken down (from a purely business perspective, of course).

You could be right, but my theory still holds water too.
