I was wrong! True purpose of the G-Diffuser within.

Well guys, I appologize. I passionately debated with several members of this and other forums what the G-Diffuser's ultimate purpose was. It seems that I was wrong, that it was not a gravity engine (a device that used artificial gravity as a means of propulsion). I was going through every page in my Star Fox 64 Player's Guide in detail (information for later use in a Star Fox Wiki), and found the three known purposes for the G-Diffuser.

Page 10 (referring to the Arwing):

"G-diffuser system generates a force field that protects the ship from enemy fire and high-speed aerobatics."

Page 14 (referring to the Landmaster):

"A lot of power is used to hold the hull together, so the G-diffuser won't generate an extra shield when you roll."

So, in the Arwing (and presumably the Blue Marine), the G-Diffuser is used to create a protective force field (strongest when barrel rolling) and provides the services of an inertial dampener (creates artificial gravity in equal and opposite direction to high-G movements, preventing the pilots from being crushed for simply accelerating too fast).

The Landmaster's G-diffuser uses most of its power for what's called a structural integrity field which simply makes strong things stronger by reenforcing them with force fields that are shaped to hold the craft together (as opposed to simply making a bubble shield outside the craft).

There's other subtle information in the guide that I will publish later. But I thought I'd put this debate to rest with definitive information rediscovered.

I kind of figured that the G-Diffuser did something for Gs on the Arwing, but I didn't know about the Force Field bit. Interesting stuff. =D

Where do I remember hearing that before... Oh yeah!I TOLD YOU!

Oooh, good find there Mr.Krystal; the effect of the G-Diffuser on gravity was a tad obvious, however, the shielding effect is news to me.

I always had a feeling that the G-Diffuser had something to do with shielding and barrel rolls, not just manipulating gravity.

Like I said, at the time, I didn't have official word. Your theory was as good as mine. If I somehow missed you posting that the real use was on page 10 of the Official Player's Guide, I apologize to you personally.

Right! I always wondered about the point when Falco complains of problems with the G-diffuser. He's getting shot at, not crashing, so it makes sense that it had something to do with shields.

I remember having a debate about how this works in a chat one night. I rememeber using theĀ  exact words Inertial Dempener.

Isn't the G-diffuser what keeps F-zero craft off the ground though?

I'm almost positive that's why Arwings still fly without both wings. The wings help navigate, but the G-diffuser is what keeps the Arwing off the ground at the end of the day, just like F-zero craft.
