Some of you may have seen this already, but if not, you might find it interesting:

http://www.gamervision.com/gamer/coop/blog/article/why_the_wii_motionplus_likely_lead_to_star_fox_icarus_and_zelda_d/

It's just an opinion article, but they made a good point: it would make sense that Nintendo hasn't announced a new Star Fox title when they've known that the Wii Motion Plus was going to be released soon.  And they wouldn't release a Star Fox game at the same time, rather, they would wait for everyone to get a Wii Motion Plus (which is currently being promoted by Wii Sports Resort), and once a lot of people have them, they can announce a big title like Star Fox.

The way I see it, there were three ways Nintendo could have gone about releasing games when they knew that the Wii MotionPlus was around the corner:

  1. They could have released the games without Wii MotionPlus support.

  2. They could have announced a few titles at E3 before the peripheral had come out.

  3. They could wait, and announce games with MotionPlus support after the device has sold million of units.

In my opinion, after playing Wii Sports Resort (and shooting blue lasers and doing barrel rolls in Wii Sports Resort's airplane), I'm thinking we should expect to see a Star Fox game within the next year, and possibly even in a couple months.

With the virtual console, Nintendo would have a huge opportunity to promote a Star Fox Wii game.  They could release Star Fox I on VC; and, if they really wanted to make a mark, they could release Star Fox 2 on the VC.  (Just think of the headlines!  "Nintendo, after 14 years, releases the abandoned Star Fox 2!").  I doubt they would do that, but think of the opportunities!

Cuthbert pretty much killed all chances of ever seeing SF2 on VC. Something about Argonaut owning the code. Argonaut went out of business in 2004.

I noticed some SF similarities on Wii Sports Resort as well. Though I DO NOT want that control scheme in it's entirety. Though I do like the barrel roll control. That felt quite natural.

My Controls:

Arwing/Blue Marine:

Nunchuck control stick - move

C - Boost

Z - Brake

C+down - Loop

Z+down - U-Turn

Sensor bar/WMP movement: aim for charge shots [optional]

B - Fire primary weapon (laser)

A - Fire secondary weapon (bomb/torpedo)

Rotate Wiimote - rotate ship

Rotate Wiimote quickly - Barrel Roll (Like Wii Sports)

D-Pad - View Controls/answer comm

Landmaster:

Nunchuck Control Stick: Move tank, center to stop in all range, down to "brake" on-rails.

C - Boost

Z - Hover

Sensor bar/WMP movement: aim cannon

B - Fire cannon

A - Fire secondary weapon (bomb)

Rotate Wiimote - move sideways using hoverjet

Rotate Wiimote quickly - Barrel Roll

D-Pad - View Controls/answer comm

On-Foot

Nunchuck Control Stick: Move

C - Jump

Z - change weapon

Sensor bar/WMP movement: aim/look

B - Fire primary weapon

A - Fire secondary weapon

Rotate Wiimote - lean

Rotate Wiimote quickly - dodge/roll

D-Pad - View Controls/answer comm

D'OH!

Oh well....

I wonder who the next enemies would be for the next game...

Andross is a bit over played...

:fox: "Glad that's over!"

:krystal: "Something tells me that Andross is still out there, and he could come back at anytime, in ways we can't imagine!"

*A bus pulls up across the street from  :fox: and  :krystal: , and Andross gets out of it, and walks up to them.*

Andross: "Boo!  Hee hee...Blah-auuugh! Bleh-leh-leh-leh-leh-leh-leh!" *makes scary faces at  :fox: and  :krystal: as he does this*

*The bus pulls away*

Andross: "WAIT!  STOP! I left my gun on the seat! I-" *turns to  :fox: and  :krystal: * "Wait here, please..."

*turns and chases after the bus, while shouting at it, loses a shoe, stops, turns and tries to get it, but changes his mind and chases the bus instead*

Andross: "I'm baaaaack!!!!!"

(My little brother has made some hilarious comics about that)

I think Dash, and his newly restored Venomian Empire, would make a good antagonist.

Andross could still come back, in some crazy way only Andross can conceive.

I'd like to see a modified form of Command and its endings serve as the events leading up to the story.

Basically, here are my ideas on how the story should start:

* Takes place about 3-4 years after Assault

* Some of the events of Command (mainly the Anglers), are, for the most part, ignored.

* Krystal is still gone (not Kursed, yet, nobody has heard from her since Fox dumped her).

* Falco has been gone for some time.

* As far as Fox knows, Peppy is still General on Corneria.

* Slippy is on Aquas, with Amanda.  He is working on a new Arwing design.

* Dash has been terraforming Venom for a couple years using Andross' technology; it is now a healthy planet that rivals Corneria in science and technology.

* Dash indirectly/accidentally challenges Corneria, and Corneria reacts (though, not by Peppy's command).

* War begins...

The rest, would be gameplay.  I'm writing my ideas regarding the continuation of the series using these ideas: (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5143873/1/Final_Conflict), if anyone is interested.  I'm certainly having fun writing it ;).

Though I do like the barrel roll control.

"barrel roll control"... it rhymes!

I think we should have three optional control sets.  The first two would be available when starting the game.

It would be just like Mario Kart Wii, where you can used the Wii Wheel (which, in my option, was just for fun and marketing), or (for extra precision, or more 'serious' gameplay), use a Nunchuck and control it like the traditional games.

* First Option (default), the WMP for controlling the Arwing.  (Mainly because Nintendo will want to promote the WMP with a big title like Star Fox, and new players would probably like it).  And I think we can all agree it would be fun for a little bit as long as we're not forced to use it.

* Second Option, "Traditional Controls", would be exactly like DZComposer stated.  (This would be used both by fans of other Star Fox games, and people who want extra "Precision" or "Advanced" control [like the Nunchuck controls in Mario Kart Wii]).

* Third (hidden) Option, "Custom Controls" (only available in "Options"), players would define their own control set.  (This would be great for Landmaster and FPS, this would have been a nice feature in Assault).  It could be a hybrid of the WMP and Traditional, or something completely new.

I actually liked the prologue to Command, I think it had a good start...

BUT, the main conflict of Command was stupid.  I also never bought the game because I didn't like the actual gameplay (stylus control :?).

Some of the endings were good, and some were also dumb (like the G-Zero ending).  Some were OK, but not great (the ending with Marcus, they didn't need to take it that far, now they're kind of stuck with it).

But without Command, we wouldn't have Kursed.  Think of all the fan fiction (like "Kurses and Krystals") and fan games ("Project Kursed").  We would not have Dash, Amanda, Star Falco, etc...

I'm not saying I liked Command as a game, but I think they can draw a good storyline from it rather than ignoring it.  (Ending 5 and 6 might work well).

You both say that you "don't want ANY elements from SF-Command", but then, Kursed, you wouldn't have your username ;)

So, I don't want Command gameplay, nor a main conflict like Command.

Star Fox 64 had a good storyline, so did Adventures (even if it was a little out of place in a Star Fox game).

Assault, though it had a great idea for an antagonist (the Aparoids, they were cool ), I felt like we were just chasing stuff around the galaxy whereas in SF64, we were fighting our way THROUGH the galaxy.

* In Assault, you don't have any choices in the story, it's win or lose.

* In Command, you had too many choices, there's nine endings!

* Star Fox 64 had a perfect balance, you could choose which planets to go to, and certain elements from those levels would carry over (Katt, Bill, the Great Fox being damaged on Sector Z, etc...).  If you took the easy route, you would win the war, but not defeat Andross.

It's not that I really like Command, nor do I hate Assault.  But I don't think we should ignore Command, and I don't think we should make it just like Assault either.  We need a balance.

Unlockable plots, but the same ending all around until it comes to easy and hard. But the difficulty still needs to a bit balanced, cause I can never get past Star Wolf when I use the warp gate to get to Sector X. All my allies get owned, and I end up losing dual lasers, which in turn hiders my chances of winning.

In other words, they make it impossible to do it without letting your team regenerate to 100% health.

Well said :) I'd like it.

That would be kind of like Star Fox 64.  If you didn't do anything extra, you would basically take the blue route, but once you find the "unlockable areas", you can play through different levels and find a "better" ending.

Its the same concept in Star Fox 64.

I think that there needs to be internet battles with custom characters like in Halo.

Ah, online multiplayer battles, seems natural for a combat game like Star Fox!

And I like the idea of custom characters! (but only for online play)

It would be nice to have both 2-4 player online battles (with in-game characters), and larger multiplayer battles (with custom characters and around 12-24 players).

24 is too many. 16 should be the max. I keep getting lag when Im on the Conduit. And thats a short game. It might be the servers.

OK, 16 would be fine.  But built-in capacity for more would be a nice, just in case they want to add more after the release.

Star Fox has never been known for really good multiplayer.  It's a good game base for multiplayer, but I felt they just never spent much time on their multiplayer modes.  Star Fox Wii, with the Wii's built-in internet support, could be a good opportunity for Nintendo to change that.

They should make a war version of Starfox with the producers of the Battlefield franchise.

Make it a ground and air battle between the Venomian forces and Cornerians, with the exception of selecting hero teams (4 to 5 players max) such as Star Fox and Star Wolf.

The Cornerians and Venomians would have the weapons options like in Bad Company (But futuristic weapons) and the Hero Teams would have their own 'Special Weapons'.

Agreed. But that would mean they need to build high capcity servers or decrease the graphics level greatly.

I completely disagree. I meant to say I agree with GammaRay.

I don't think they should make the game exclusively an online multiplayer war combat game... it just doesn't seem in the Star Fox tradition UNLESS they could either include a strong story, or release a traditional, structured game with a storyline alongside the war version.

Battlefield games are fun for awhile, but there's no story, and they get old kind of fast.  I'm a Star Fox fan because of both the story and the gameplay, not exclusively the action.

Even though Star Fox has never had good multiplayer, I believe multiplayer should still, ALWAYS come second to a great, single-player Star Fox game.

If you've played Bad Company, it did have a story... but was kind of weird..

It had a squad of four (I'm guessing they would put Fox, Falco, Krystal, and Slippy in it... doubt it though) and they could commandeer SEVERAL vehicles and man SEVERAL mounted turrents.  Imagine driving a new Landmaster with everone on board, one on the turret, three having supportive fire on the sides, and you driving and firing the cannon, and use your Arwings during some missions.

BUT the problem would be having a decent, or Strong story, as I agree with you.

I've never played Bad Company, but it looks like fun .  I like EA's Battlefield series, although, I haven't played all the games...

As for Star Fox, it would probably make a great game ON ITS OWN, but I think a lot of Star Fox fans (including myself), would be a bit dissapointed.

It would probably get good ratings, but I don't think we long-time Star Fox fans would consider it one of our favorites.

If they could build that into an optional multiplayer mode, however, that would be awesome!  And I think we would all appreciate it.

Yeah, my favorite part was when the sgt. told them to stay put and Haggard started running down the hill yelling and firing off his shotgun.  THAT was probably the funniest part of the game to me.

Yeah, I think that would be a good idea to add it as an optional game mode, but people of the battlefield franchise would buy this, ignore the story, and just make their lives off of the online multiplayer.... THAT'S my downfall theory of the idea.

BACK ON TOPIC!!!!

The storyline of the next game should be based of a very popular fanfic.

Yeah, but the game calls for characters that aren't LITERALLY in the Star Fox Universe...  So what's the use? :|

How are they going to introduce a character someone made up during a fanfic and have him relating nowhere near the actual storyline?
