Falcory
Before all you Starfox fans and Dinosaur Planet fans, get all excited I posted this topic to see if anyone wanted one really badly or if anyone knows where one is. I personally don't care if the game has bugs or if it's not finished but I would like to play a little bit of it at least. Some people say that there is no rom dump out there, which is true in a sense that it's not on the internet, but I know for a fact that there are some beta roms of it out there. One kid on this website, (Which for some reason I could never find again) stated that he had a beta rom of the game, had made it to the FINAL boss (yeah I said it. Final) of the game and died. I wouldn't have believed him by word myself, but he had video footage of scenes in the game that I had never seen before, and was playing them on what seemed to be a N64. Now I know you're probably thinking: "Doesn't this guy accept that there is no rom dump on the web?" Oh yeah I accept that, because I know it first hand. But what I also know first hand is the some people have an ACTUAL beta rom and in that, lies hope. So any thoughts? Guest RedPhoenix32
Just one question... Why? Why make a game that not all Star Fox fans will enjoy? Most, like me, were opposed with the whole Dinosaur planet idea in the first place. Star Fox is a game for blowing things up, flying, shooting things, flying, and soaring through space at a high velocity. It was never meant to be a first person shooter(but I am not opposed to that concept). But it was meant to be a high flying kickass adventure game. Why take that away? Falcory
To Red phoenix: Are you talking about Starfox Adventures. If you are, I think that Starfox adventures was one of the best things that happened in Starfox. It showed that the Starfox can have a blend of different things in it's games not just to be stuck in an arwing all the time. Sure Starfox is fun to play in arwing mode, but lets face it, if you keep playing like that over and over you're bound to get bored of it, and that's where the variety comes in. Plus it makes sense that someone will come out of their ship once in a while. I know you like living in the Starfox past, but you have to head toward the Starfox future. Okay that sounds corny, so sue me. To Sabre: Yes the trailers that you see of Dinosaur Planet is the Beta itself. It was the actual game that never made the cut. DZComposer
Don't claim something exists without proof. "I've seen a video" is not proof. If such a video exists, please link to it. I don't doubt that it is possible that a ROM dump exists somewhere (The SF2 ROM was kept under wraps for years), but don't come out and claim people have one without something to back it up. I want to see vids or screenshots if not the ROM itself before I believe something like this. I also feel otherwise concerning your comment about SFAd being one of the best things that happened to Star Fox, having seen the effects on the series and fandom first hand, but that's for another thread. Mr. Krystal
The reason SF2 ROMs exist in the wild is because a few review copies were sent to magazines. Dinosaur Planet was ONLY playable at E3 2000. Since the company's employees didn't (yet) release it online themselves, there's no reason to believe that it could possibly exist online. As DZ says, post proof or it didn't happen. Also, in a recent search, I found a new video of Dinosaur Planet I had never seen, recorded with a video camera, so maybe this is what you saw: http://64dd.net/modules/games/index.php?system=n64&type=unreleased§ion=multimedia&id=34&video=
Guest RedPhoenix32
@Falcory: DO YOU NOT FREAKING GET IT!?!?!?!? Nintendo, like it has before, scandeled us with Adventures. As you can clearly see in the video. There was almost nothing different from the two. That, in my opinion, is why I dont consider it Star Fox-worthy. They did the same thing with Super Mario 2, and Contra Force. The video, looked almost exactly the same as the intro for Adventures. You're basically playing the same thing with a guest star or two. Even if it was a first person shooter, who in their right mind wants to play a first person shooter, with furries in it? People would rather buy Resident Evil, Call of Duty, or Halo! Thats why the arwing is about the only thing, that makes Star Fox popular. Along with the Landmaster, and the Blue Marine. First person shooter and thrid person sword swinging is okay, but they cant take up hours and hours of the game.
Owner/Technical Admin Sideways Posted January 31, 2009 Owner/Technical Admin Share Posted January 31, 2009 Super Mario Bros 2 was a fun game. I myself actually enjoyed Adventures and It's one of my favorite games next to 64 and assault.

Super Mario Bros. 2 elements eventually made their way into the standard makeup of the series. See Shyguys in almost every Mario games after SMW. Even if it was a first person shooter, who in their right mind wants to play a first person shooter, with furries in it? People would rather buy Resident Evil, Call of Duty, or Halo! Apparently a lot of people. Companies just don't make them yet. See all the furry mods for FPS's. Thats why the arwing is about the only thing, that makes Star Fox popular. Along with the Landmaster, and the Blue Marine. First person shooter and thrid person sword swinging is okay, but they cant take up hours and hours of the game. If we are going by pure popularity, Star Fox Adventures sold more than Assault. That's not to say Adventures is the way the series should go, but don't say that there's nothing good about it. Also, Adventures was a far longer game than SF64 and SF Assault.

Guest RedPhoenix32
And Assault was the shortest of the series. But thats not the point. Star Fox is flight suits, space craft, fighter piloting, and laser guns. Its action packed with the additional space fantasy storyline. If they throw it off completely, (like they did in command) the fanbase (as it already has) will decrease ten-fold.

It was quite literally an executive decision to replace the DP characters with SF ones. After receiving the order, Rare had no choice. Best decision for the series? No. But it wasn't a scam. It is also quite different than the SMB2 scenario. The later was a near-sighted decision based on an unreasonable assumption that non-Japanese gamers were not skilled enough to play the real SMB2. SFAd was the result of either a creative decision or a marketing decision. Rare and Nintendo were falling out at the time over disappointing performance from Rare (SFAd was the last game Rare made for Nintendo). The intent wasn't to pass off SFAd as DP or vise-versa, it was to turn DP into SFAd.
Guest RedPhoenix32
It seemed a hell of alot like it though. Except for the translation from N64 to NGC, the intro was entirely unchanged.
Guest Chiro-Chan
*hopeless attempt to steer topic back on subject* Um, I'd like to see the information on this first, but if there actually IS a ROM out there...
Falcory
Whoo boy, I leave my PC for two hours and come back to some hostility. Yippee. Ah well, guess I'm going to have to clean up this mess. First off I did not post this topic to say that there is a DP rom on the net which I clearly stated in my first post. The reason I started this topic is because now that I know that there are actual beta cartridges of the game, I hope someone will see this section and maybe think about uploading their beta cartridge into a rom. Secondly I also stated that I do not know which website I saw the video at. Thanks to my Mom's daily stupid system restore, I can't check my history and find out where it was at. (Mr Krystal that was an awsome video by the way.) Frankly I would like to see it again as much as all of you, but I can't find it again and unfortunately until I do I can't prove what I said. So I'm sorry for that. Red phoenix I see you're really upset that Starfox Adventures was really a different game. That's okay, but think about what might not have happened if they hadn't done this. Krystal would not have part of the starfox series for one. You also have to think back to that time period. Nintendo was already late in making a Starfox game. If they hadn't found an already finished project to combine with, Nintendo would have been forced to rush the game, thus more than likely making the game extremely more crappier. Nintendo had no other choice, and for a spur of the moment decision, they made a good one. Anyway I've been trying my hardest to find that video, and when I do I'll be sure to link it. Mr. Krystal
...I know that there are actual beta cartridges of the game How do you know? Is it only based on the video you saw? Even if you saw what you thought you saw, it may not have actually been a cartridge. It could have been on one of Rare's dev devices. Did you actually play Command? ALL IT HAD was flight suits, space craft, fighter piloting, and laser guns.
Falcory
I assume their is one because I saw the DP game being played on a TV, set with a N64 right in front of the camera. The cartridge was bland, the red light was on, I could hear clicking in the background that sounded like a controller being used and biggest kicker of all was that Krystal was moving though the level (That I had never seen before) quite fluidly not like any of the trailers I saw which rules out recording a trailer onto a videotape and faking the whole thing. So I assumed that he actually had the beta to Dinosaur Planet. But your right, even though it looked convincing it could be fake, a lot of people today have a kack for that sort of thing, but I hope it wasn't. DZComposer
There is nothing you can say that is a substitute for a link to the vid. If you can't find it, then you can't find it. But keep in mind that the burden of proof lies with the one making a claim. In the future make sure that you can back-up your claim with something solid. You claim that there are DP beta cartridges floating around based on a low quality video that you conveniently cannot find, and based on your description could merely be a dev test or a little-known E3 video. Can you see why there is skepticism?
Falcory
To Mr Krystal: I wasn't paying to much attention to that, but it seemed to be a regular room. To DZ Composer: Read my second to last post again. I cannot seem to find this video again which makes me really upset. After Mr. Krystal's notion I would like to study it and see if it is fake or not. I know I found it on google (if that helps you) but I've been all the way up to result 30 (for "Dinosaur Planet N64 beta rom) and still have not found it. I'm starting to think that someone removed it, but for the life of me I wouldn't know why.
Guest RedPhoenix32
I decided to research it on IGN. Guess what I found? http://ign64.ign.com/objects/014/014516.html There's screen shots on that page. The game looked alot like the furry version of Zelda, just with lots of dinosaurs. Or, as us Trekkies say, just "saurs". Anyway... Im going to use methods unknown to many to locate the beta ROM. But I'm willing to bet it wont be impressive. There are also legit videos. EDIT: I found the original storyline. Its turns out, that nothing much was changed exept for the main plot and a little bit of game play. The main plot in Dinosaur Planet was that two people, Krystal and Sabre, had to find a wizard or something, to combat General Scales. In the case of Adventures, that was changed to finding the Krazoas, freeing Krystal, killing Scales (no change there) and finnaly killing Andross. Krystal, in addition, was also the main character. I find Dinosaur Planet to be more impressive than Adventures and would have played it myself. But then Nintendo had to make things go buzzurk. The gameplay wasnt that different. But Krystal was never trapped and the two characters already knew each other. Plus, Fox used Krystal's staff, when Sabre (the one who was replaced by Fox) used a sword. But the whole sidekick thing didnt change. Tricky was Fox's, while the petrodactyl was Krystal's. Then, there's the matter of wardrobe. The wardrobe actually changed with the environment instead of freezing your butt off with only a short sleeve shirt and pants, or, if you arent so lucky, a small two peice bikini. They actually had more clothes on in the colder areas of the planet and less in the hotter areas. But above all, there really isnt much difference. They just needed guns to make it a Star Fox game instead of a cheap switch over.
Star Fox Runner
Jeesh, the whole DP to Adventures conversion really is a touchy subject isn't it? Anyway, if this fabled beta cartridge really exists, I would love to see it. If not, then this is good reason to not believe everything you see on the internet. Dinosaur Planet is one of those things from the past that we will most likely never get back, its pretty sad really. One can always hope though.
