DZComposer
I have decided to compile some information that should be helpful for those of you who are just joining the Star Fox fanbase. Abbreviations: We have abbreviations in this fandom, just as many others do. Here are some common ones: SF - Star Fox. Either the team, the series, or Star Fox SNES. Use context clues to determine with one. SNES - Depends on context. Either the Super Nintendo itself or Star Fox SNES. SFSNES - Star Fox SNES SF1 - Star Fox SNES (often used when Star Fox 2 is mentioned in same post/article) SF2 - Star Fox 2, the canceled SNES game SF64- Star Fox 64 SF643D - Star Fox 64 3D, the Star Fox 64remake for the Nintendo 3DS. SFA - Depends on context: Star Fox Adventures, or Star Fox Assault. I do not recommend using this one. SFAd or SFAD - Star Fox Adventures SFAs or SFAS - Star Fox Assault DP - Dinosaur Planet (Canceled Rare N64 adventure game that became Star Fox Adventures) SFR - Star Fox Armada (common name for Star Fox Assault during development, never officially used by Nintendo). Depreciated. Do not ever use. SFGC - Star Fox GC (One of two official codenames for Star Fox Assault. The other is Star Fox 2, which caused confusion. Most fans called it Star Fox Armada (SFR)) Depreciated. Do not ever use. SFC - Star Fox Command SFDS - Star Fox DS (Codename for Star Fox Command). Depreciated. Do not ever use. SFWii - Star Fox Wii (General term for a Star Fox on the Wii, which never happened) SFU - Hypothetical Star Fox game on Wii U SFWiiU - Hypothetical Star Fox game on Wii U SW - Depends on context Star Wing (European name for Star Fox SNES) or Star Wolf. LW - Lylat Wars (European name for Star Fox 64) N64 - Nintendo 64 GCN - Gamecube GC - Gamecube NDS - Nintendo DS DS - Nintendo DS 3DS - Nintendo 3DS NES - Nintendo Entertainment System NOA - Nintendo of America (US Nintendo) NOE - Nintendo of Europe (European Nintendo) NCL - Nintendo Company, Ltd. (Japanese Nintendo) Main company. Controls all other Nintendo branches. EAD - Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development. Nintendo's famous internal game dev house. Developed Star Fox 64 CDF - Cornerian Defense Force, AKA Cornerian Army. DABR - Do A Barrel Roll Key People: Shigeru Miyamoto - Nintendo's #1 creative talent. Leads EAD. Considered the creator of Star Fox. More famous for work on Mario and Zelda. Dylan Cuthbert - Leads Q Games. Former programmer for Argonaut during the Star Fox SNES days. Directed Star Fox Command Takaya Imamura - Worked on all Star Fox games. Graphic designer for Star Fox. Graphic director for Star Fox 64. Nintendo Supervisor for Star Fox Adventures. Producer for Star Fox Assault and Star Fox Command. Considered by some to control the story. This has not been confirmed. Hiroshi Yamauchi - Former CEO of Nintendo. Executive producer of all Nintendo-published titles until he left NCL. Owns Seattle Mariners Baseball team. Satoru Iwata - Current CEO of Nintendo. Executive Producer of all Nintendo-published titles. First person not in Yamauchi family to run Nintendo. He came from HAL Labs, 2nd party developer best known for Kirby and Smash Bros. Hajime Hirasawa - Composed music for SFSNES. Only scored 2 games (the other being Time Twist for the Famicom). Currently runs Faith Corporation. Koji Kondo - Nintendo's most famous composer. Did sound effects for SFSNES, and partial score for Star Fox 64. Wrote current theme of Star Fox. Hajime Wakai - Scored Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Command. David Wise - Scored Star Fox Adventures Yoshie Arakawa and Yoshinori Kawamoto - Scored Star Fox Assault Tokyo New City Orchestra - Performed Star Fox Assault score Mike West - Voiced Fox in Star Fox 64 *Fun Fact: Mike West briefly visited SFO in mid-2010 Steve Malpass - Voiced Fox in Star Fox Adventures Jim Walker - Voiced Fox in Star Fox Assault Alesia Glidewell - Voiced Krystal in Star Fox Assault and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Companies involved with Star Fox: 1. Nintendo - Came up with series concept. EAD division developed Star Fox 64. Publisher of all SF Games. 2. Argonaut Software - Provided programmers for Star Fox and Star Fox 2. The company is now defunct. It sold off all assets in 2004. 3. Rare - Developer of Star Fox Adventures. Now owned by Microsoft. 4. Namco - Developer of Star Fox Assault 5. Q-Games - Developer of Star Fox Command Definitions of words: Canon - The Official Story. Anything that officially happened. That means documented in an official source. Retcon - Short for Retroactive Continuity. When one thing official contradicts another, the newer is usually considered correct. The change is called a retcon. Note that in-game trumps "print" media in most cases, so not all contradictions are retcons. Arwing - The primary space fighter of Star Fox Wolfen - The primary space fighter of Star Wolf Corneria - 4th planet of the Lylat System, center of government. Venom - Home of Andross and the Anglars Aparoids - A race of parasitic insect-like creatures with the ability to take over machines and life forms and assimilate them into their order. Main enemies of Star Fox Assault Anglars - Mutated sea creatures under the lead of Emperor Anglar. Possibly created by Andross. Main enemies of Star Fox Command Venomian/Venomese/Androssian - All three mean those who fought for Andross. Nova Bomb - Former name of the Smart Bomb. Preferred by old fogeys like myself. Sauria -Â Dinosaur Planet. Home of the dinosaur tribes and the events of SFAd. This is a classic example of a retcon. It was called Dinosaur planet throughout SFAd, but in SFAs its' name was changed to Sauria. It was called Sauria in SFC as well. This is a "good" retcon, as it cleared confusion. The SNES manual called Fortuna "The Dinosaur Planet"Â creating a small debate that was finally settled in SFAs when Fortuna, Fichina, and Sauria all three existed as separate planets. CUSing - A controversial technique for gaining high scores in Star Fox 64. It exploits the scoring code for charged shots. Some call it cheating, others call it an advanced technique. Barrel Roll - Always do one. A move that deflects laser shots shot at your Arwing. In SF64, press Z or R twice. Running inside joke at SFO and an internet meme popularized by 4chan. Dev/Devs - Developers. (Developers. Developers. Developers. Developers. Developers...) People who worked on the game. Keep track of Canon. It isn't too hard with Star Fox, so there is no excuse. Always make sure that you are spreading canon information. If you know what you are saying isn't canon or you don't know if it is canon, it is a courtesy to say so. What is currently Canon In order of importance: 1. Events or backstory in game. Watch out for Retcons. 2. Instruction Manuals 3. Star Fox 64 Player's Guide (the only one that contains extra story info) 4. Promotional materials/press events 5. Interviews with high-ranking people involved with the games' creations (low-ranking artists and such don't count) What was Canon but no longer is: 1. SFSNES (Star Fox 64 was a series reboot) 2. The Itoh Comic NOT CANON: 1. Any comic 2. Fan Fiction 3. Star Fox 2 4. Anything in an unofficial text 5. Smash Bros. 6. Star Fox Command after intro (Devs said no ending is Canon, therefore most events are not as they depend on your story choices) Star Fox Comics: Itoh Comic (AKA SNES Comic, Nintendo Power Comic) - spanned a year in Nintendo Power. Star Fox SNES era. Introduced Fara Phoenix. Drawn by Benomaru Itoh. Losely follows SNES story. "Lylat Wars" Comic - German comic. Heavily contradicts game. Loosely follows SF64 story. Farewell, Beloved Falco (AKA "Shears Comic") - Appeared on official Japanese Nintendo website. Attempts to fill gap between SF64 and SFAd. Shears is a pivotal character in the comic. Characters: Star Fox Team: Fox McCloud (You) - Leader Falco Lombardi * Occasionally goes freelance Peppy Hare * Later becomes Commander in Chief of the CDF Lucy hare * Daughter of Peppy Slippy Toad Amanda [Toad] * Slippy's Fiancee no last name given, but she does marry Slippy in some SFC stories. They have MANY children (they got busy ). Krystal [buranetto is given as last name in French version of game] *joins Star Wolf in some SFC stories, sticks with Fox in others. Has child with Fox in one. Dash Bowman * Grandson of Andross. Turns evil is some SFC Stories. Ash in Japanese version. Fay [sF2 Only] Miyu [sF2 Only] Fara Phoenix [itoh Comic Only] Star Wolf Team: Wolf O'Donnell - Leader Pigma Dengar * Kicked-off Star Wolf. Goes freelance, gets involved with Aparoids and becomes one. Leon Powalski Andrew Oikonny * Nephew of Andross kicked off Star Wolf. Takes over uncle's empire. Panther Caruso Algy [sF2 only] Others: General Pepper - Commander in Cheif of Cornerian Defense Force. Andross - Main bad guy Bill Grey - Cornerian Officer Katt Monroe - Freelance pilot, and girlfriend of Falco Lombardi Beltino Toad - Expert engineer and research director for CDF. Father of Slippy Toad James McCloud/Fox McCloud Sr. - Fox's deceased [Note that there is some debate over that] father. Name depends on version of story. Known as James Star Fox 64 and later. Tricky - Prince of the Earthwalker Tribe. Becomes king after Aparoid invasion. General Scales - Dictator of Sharplcaw Tribe. Killed by his own men at the end of Star Fox Adventures. Shabunga - The Most annoying shopkeeper in the Lyalt System. Runs Thorntail Hollow store. Aparoid Queen - Leads Aparoids. Emperor Anglar - Leads Anglar forces. Hinted to be a creation of Andross, though it is never stated outright. Marcus McCould -Â Son of Fox and Krystal in Goodbye Fox ending of SFC. Considered atrociously ugly by many. Notable Retcons: Star Fox 64 - A total series reboot Sauria - Originally named Dinosaur Planet. Confusion as to whether or not this planet was Fortuna existed until the name Sauria was applied. Fortuna and Fichina. Fichina was the Japanese name of the Ice Planet in Star Fox 64. The planet was called Fortuna in the English version. Fortuna was a green planet in SFSNES. SFAs made both planets separate, with Fichina being the ice planet and Fortuna being a green planet. Andross' Exile - Krystal says some lines in Star Fox Command that imply that Andross was exiled for purely political reasons rather than for dangerous expiraments, as has been canon since Star Fox 64. There is debate as to whether this is a true retcon. Krystal had incentive to lie, and SFC itself is only partially canon. Trivial Information Star Fox was originally just supposed to be a Super FX Tech Demo. Star Fox 2 was practically complete when it was canceled. ROMs are floating around, but you won't find them here. Star Fox borrows some ideas from other Sci-Fi stories. Most notably Star Wars, Star Trek, and Independence Day. The Katina level in Star Fox 64 was borrowed from the final battle scene in Independence Day. Bill Grey is named after General William Grey, a character in Independence Day. The Aparoids share similarities with The Borg of Star Trek. Star Fox 64 once held the launch week sales record. Star Fox Adventures was originally supposed to be Dinosaur Planet, a new Rare franchise on the N64. The Itoh comic implies that General Pepper may be named after the Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Star Fox and Star Fox 64 had to be renamed in Europe due to trademark issues. Star Wing and Lylat Wars respectively. Common Wrongs: Many people spread untruths. Arwing - NOT R-WING! This is not Star Wars! Krystal - NOT Kristal nor Crystal. Fay, Miyu, and Krystal do not have official last names (at least in English). In French documentation, Krystal is given the last name Buranetto, but that name is not seen outside France. Fox McCloud is the name of the character, Star Fox is the name of the team and series. Wolf O'Donnell is the name of the character, Star Wolf is the name of the team. (I've even seen official magazines and comics screw this up) This is a living document. I will update it periodically until it is finished. Feel free to suggest corrections (back them up with a reliable source). NOTE: If you wish to post something yourself, please post where the info can be found. I must keep this canon. Guest Julius Quasar
Who exactly are Fay? Miyu? and Fara Phoenix? are they from the comics?
DZComposer
Fay and Miyu are from SF2: http://starfox-online.net/games/sf2/the-star-fox-2-crew/ Fay is the dog, Miyu is the lynx. Fara is from the Itoh comic. I don't really have a bio, so start here: http://www.sfx64.com/Comics/index2.html (Note: not at SFO) Fara first appears om this page: http://www.sfx64.com/Comics/act2_2.html If you haven't read the Itoh comic, do so. It is an entertaining, albeit corny, read filled with Beatles, Sci-Fi, and other pop-culture references. Note that nothing about it is canon. Fara did appear is some very early betas of SF2, but she was removed in favor of Miyu.

Falcory
Uhhh DZ hate to correct you, but it's Dash Bowman not Ash bowman. And Peppy also said some lines implying about Andross in Command. Andrew was pronounced Algy in Japan. In USA he's called Andrew. Shugbugga? Never heard of that name for the Shopkeeper. General Scales was never proven to be dead. DZComposer
It is Ash in the Japanese version. I just got on autopilot when I typed that. I like Ash better than Dash, which is likely why I did it. (アッシュ ボウマン -> AS SHU BO U MA N -> ASHU BOUMAN -> Ash Bowman). I'll often spell it (D)Ash. Algy is not Andrew in Japan. Watch in high quality: K0ExpyuBTh0 The name on his picture is アンドリュー -> A N DO RYUU -> ANDORYU -> Andrew. Algy is something similar to アロギー. A RO GII -> AROGI. There is no "L" sound in Japanese. Do you remember where Peppy's lines on the subject of Andross in SFC were? I will try to track down where I got the Shabunga name for the Thorntail shopkeeper. I remember reading that somewhere official. Scales is dead. In the final Krazoa test cutscene, one of the sharpclaws appears to bludgeon him. Guest Julius Quasar
Oh, man! Did they shoot down Peppy in that battle?! (Unless Peppy got shot down in an earlier level) Why couldn't they kill Slippy?

Yeah Ash is a cooler name, but you might confuse people who know him as Dash. Yeah I guess I was thinking about how they were basically the same character. Both of them were with Starwolf and monkeys. So I consider Algy to be Andrew. But in the final version of Starfox 2, Algy is called Andrew. No I don't sorry. My cousin recently just erased my Command data so when I find it, I'll let you know. Yes keep me informed on that. Not that I don't believe you, but I just want to see it. I've never seen that footage. Things like that can be deceiving. Krystal appeared to fight Slippy in the Katina level in Assault.
DZComposer
Which final version are you talking about? The final version I'm familiar with still calls him "Algy." Note that there was a ROM patch out there that I think may have changed that, but it was created by a ROM hacker, not by the SF2 Devs. Is the the conversation you were reffering to, by any chance? PEPPY: Listen, there's something I need to tell all of you. PEPPY: There was a reason I came all this way to Titania. FOX: What is it, General? PEPPY: As you know, the Venom Sea is extremely acidic. PEPPY: At the moment, there's no way we can get anywhere near it. SLIPPY: Our ships wouldn't last ten minutes in that environment! PEPPY: Well, after our last battle with Andross, he started thinking. PEPPY: He put together a plan to terraform the whole environment. PEPPY: He wanted to make Venom a more hospitable place to live. SLIPPY: Wait...he actually wanted to neutralize the acidity of the Venom Sea? PEPPY: Exactly! PEPPY: And now he's hidden a device on Titania to do just that! FALCO: Aw, that's crazy talk! Why would he do something like that? FOX: I bet he wanted to build a perfect world of his very own. PEPPY: He also built a bioweapon to protect the device! PEPPY: I bet that's still there, too. If not, can you find it here? http://sfc.krystalarchive.com/text/missionList.html That quote doesn't suggest anything about WHY Andross was banished, unlike this one (the one I mentioned earlier): KRYSTAL: A long time ago, Andross started developing a new machine. KRYSTAL: This device would make Venom a beautiful planet that could support like. FOX: Venom? Beautiful? KRYSTAL: Andross was deemed to be a dangerous fanatic and banished from Venom. KRYSTAL: He was condemned to a life of isolation and loneliness. FOX: That lousy ape is nothing more than a crazed maniac! KRYSTAL: You say that because he killed your father. KRYSTAL: But at that time, he was Corneria's chief science officer. KRYSTAL: He was also a close colleague of General Pepper. KRYSTAL: But they were like oil and water. Their infighting was a precursor to war. FOX: NO! That's a LIE! Andross ignored an order to halt his dangerous experiments! FOX: He was banished as punishment! KRYSTAL: His motives were pure, Fox! He just wanted to continue his research. KRYSTAL: He never asked for money or kickbacks of any kind! FOX: Yeah? Well if he's so pure, why did we end up going to war?! KRYSTAL: ... FALCO: Enough! We don't have time to blad about the past right now! KRYSTAL: You're right, Falco. Let me continue. KRYSTAL: After Andross fought you, he dedicated his remaining days to planet Venom. KRYSTAL: He wanted to leave some sort of legacy. That's all. It's not explicit, but Krystal implies that Andross was banished for political reasons, not for being a danger, as was specifically stated in SF64, thus this is either an attempted retcon, or Krystal is embellishing the truth to upset Fox. It also seems to says that Andross survived SF64's end, and seems to say that Andross never went to Sauria, which would screw things up a lot (I mean, without that event, Krystal would be standing there saying that). Remember, Krystal is still very upset with Fox at this point, and has motive to embellish things. Plus, Cuthbert's statements regarding the endings make this non-canon anyways. Falcory
Yeah that's the Peppy conversation I was talking about. I thought you were talking about characters that implied that Andross survived after Adventures. I don't know who the ROM was modified by... PocketRock
So... Which game did Falco and Katt hook up in? The last time I remember those two, Falco tried to make clear he was just her pal when Katt began flirting with him in 64. Did Falco suggest feeling otherwise for her in later games? I know Katt continued to Flirt in Command (though I've only played SF64). So does "Katt Monroe - Freelance pilot, and girlfriend of Falco Lombardi" simply reffer to that "StarFalco" ending in Command? Even in that ending, Falco joined up with her because it was a lot better for him to fly with her than being shunned by his team and old pal Fox. Very interesting list. :] I certainly learned there are quite a few inconsistencies and retcons in the StarFox games. Also very interesting how ALL the endings in command are not canon (as opposed to Krystal leaving for StarWolf being the canon one). Even with no canon ending, I would think the different sides of the characters we saw in those endings are canon. Krystal's negative feelings towards Fox in some of those ending or Falco just wanting to escape a bad situation with Katt to form StarFalco, for instance, are canon to simply help illustrate how a character feels... the events causing those feelings just aren't part of the canon story line. [Not trying to start a debate with that second paragraph as this particular thread does not need that... just want an answer to the whole "Katt-girlfriend-of-Falco" thing]
