Steve
I think many people around the world confuse the term "furry" with something sexual oriented, that's why they refuse to accept it, if my knowledge doesn't betray me, being a furry is simply someone who likes anthro characters over normal characters, with some exceptions. I think the term furry has evolved into 3 different factions: *low-oriented, people who simply like one or two anthro characters but normally prefer human characters or enjoy them 50/50, and feel overall ok with the fandom . *mid-oriented, those are the folks who prefer anthro characters over human ones but are not furry enough to go to cons, wear a fur suit and have fun with other furries. Could also be people who like to rp. *high-oriented, could be people that love to go to cons, like to wear fur suits, like to rp as an anthro character and enjoy every part of the furry fandom. Again, being a furry is different than being a "furvert" term used by wikipedia to describe people that like yiff stuff. I have encountered several people that associate furry with yiff, which from my point of view, is wrong and frustrating, it only shows ignorance. When I joined SFO, I considered myself a mid furry, but now I consider myself low/mid , I'm not too attached to the fandom anymore, but since I prefer to read comics with anthro characters and I enjoy anthro art as much as I enjoy anime art, I guess that automatically makes me somewhat furry still . Braux
Alright, after that I now have enough gut to play this out: "*low-oriented, people who simply like one or two anthro characters but normally prefer human characters or enjoy them 50/50, and feel overall OK with the fandom . " Me- I prefer the word "Anthro" or something else, "Furry" sounds kind-of, Well, Meh to me. ^ *gets out Flame Proof suit, Stretches out arms- "I'm Ready!" And even within these ranges, there are other ranges. There are lots of furries who go to cons but don't want to wear suits, and other distinctions. Rogue Fox
*Gets up from chair* My name is Rogue Fox, and I'm a furry. I like clean furry art, furry stories, cartoons with furries and Role Playing on Furry sites (Krystal Lover's Association). I plan to go to Anthrocon in the near future and maybe, when I get lots of money, I can afford to buy a fursuit. I openly tell my friends I'm a furry, which most of them think it's cool. Many of my friends think I act like a fox: always curious, sometimes mischevious, very energetic, and cunning. Ready for this... *Drumroll* I plan to create a fantasy series in the near future for the mainstream market involving furries. And now I shall start dancing to Caramelldansen... PuffNStuff
My question is, why would anyone tell someone that they are a furry at school? Do you know how retarded that is? Just asking for unwanted trouble. My advice is, keep the furry and the student spereate at all times. When you combine them is just asking for drama. I really dont care if this offends anyone as it is my honest opinion. No one needs to know if you are a furry. Especially if they can make your life miserable. As long as you know that they are cool with it, (i.e they are a furry or know someone else who is a furry) then dont tell them. Pride is one thing, a miserable life is a whole other story. I knew a furry who went to my school. She was weird in the most literal way. I find it cool how she didn't care, but also disapointed that a friendship would lead to social suicide. Had she kept her furryness out of school then I would have approached her. (she wasn't to bed looking, but she didnt take care of herself as most girls do) Maybe even become friends. Then if had learned she was furry, it would have been awesome. A sorta "have your cake and eat it too situation". being friends without the social stigma of a furry. Just leave it at home and you will never have problems.
