Zwolf
I think we are over analyzing this BIG time. As I have figured out through multiple events in my, not everything has to have a big elaborate reason behind it, the designers put those markings there probably to add more to the character's look. They probably ARE there to make her look cool. If I have to vote though, I'll put its a Cerinian thing. Oh, yeah. That's fine for a video game explanation of it, if the game doesn't have to do anything about the background or history of the character. But for a book/story... Lemme give you an example. What Harry Potter was just a video game? And that lightning bolt on his forehead was never explained? (I know this isn't a great example... Because the lightning bolt DOES have significance, while her markings don't at this part)
Guest Chiro-Chan
I think the markings just naturally occur, and that they signify things about that person, much like tattoos in Polynesian culture do. And over time, more and more marks will develop on them, so a really old Cerinian might have their entire body covered in these marks. Kind of like a way to tell their life story, or something like that.
Zwolf
You mean, they are born with the marks on, not inked in after birth?

Zwolf
Well... We can't really prove he DOESN'T have them either, unless you can see his bare arms in one of the two pictures of him... Nope, I just looked at the pictures. Both pictures, he has a jacket on. We can't see the markings, and we can't NOT see the markings. So if they are born with them were is marcus' Markings? That's still a really good point, Kursed.
Guest Chiro-Chan
@ Zwolf and Kursed: Sort of. What I mean by that is, that they develop as they age, so the more markings you have, the older you are. Marcus probably doesn't have any because they haven't developed yet, and perhaps he didn't get those genes from his parents as well, as he isn't purely Cerinian. ...Okay, yeah, I'm looking waaaaay too much into this. *geek* xD

Samantha Weltzin
Well, that kind of lazy excuse works for a video game that doesn't go into the background/history of the characters. I'm talking about my Fan-Fiction, which needs an explanation of the markings, since it does have some Cerinian history/lore in it. For those people people that are voting "Just a Cerinian thing", or "Something else", what do you guys think about this. Well, if it's your fan fiction, you can make up whatever you want about them. Unless this was just a vote to sway your decision in what you're doing with them, I see no reason why "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" can't apply here. And now you got me seriously defending my position. What happened? D:
Zwolf
Another good point by Kursed. While she does get less revealing clothing, the "Goodbye, Fox" ending, is at least like what, 20 years later from Assault? Krystal's 40? And doesn't have any on her neck or anything, from what we can see. Same for the other endings, like "Star Wolf Returns", where she changes to Kursed. She's wearing revealing clothes as Kursed, and she doesn't have anymore marks on her arm or her stomach. Well, if it's your fan fiction, you can make up whatever you want about them. Unless this was just a vote to sway your decision in what you're doing with them, I see no reason why "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" can't apply here. And now you got me seriously defending my position. What happened? D: I was curious about what other people thought. But, sorry. Chiro gave me something to argue against, haha. Well, Cerinians aren't humans, so they'd have different genetics from what people do. They're aliens. xD Also, in Assault and Command, the designers completly removed the marks probably out of sheer laziness, and I do not regard either of those games as part of the canonical story. I know my theory doesn't have a lot of ground, but it's just a stupid idea I have. *shrugs*

Assault was cannon Command.. well the designes of the characters were cannnon not the story or the personalities of some of the characters though. Also, you gotta remember that you're dealing with fans who scrutinize every detail of this character. If there's a hole in anything, they'll find it. :D

evilwaffles
No... The only thing NOT canon in Command is everything after the little "prologue". Debatable. (On topic) Krystal's markings are most likely a Cerinian Thing. (just re-voted )
Chrono Reaper
Most Native Amercans mark themselves to show their loyalty to their tribe which is pretty much their family. I have a real question. did they ink her or branded her with a hot iron? Lot of prople say she was branded while a lot of other people say she was inked. Sabre
Ink. Branding would make her baldy.
Chrono Reaper
Ink. Branding would make her baldy. Not necessarily... you'd be surprised. If she is inked why do they say they are brandings when branding is something you do to like...cattle.
Zwolf
Maybe I'm misunderstanding both of you, but I believe Sabre's point is that if those markings were branded, she wouldn't have fur there, and she does.
