Plot hole: Cerinia

I'm at a loss. For my FanFic, I kinda need a solid explanation for why Cerinia was "doomed".

Going by the rest of the things I have planned in the story (that I can't reveal yet), I would LIKE IT, if Cerinia just blew up, and then make a reason for that... But...

If it did just "blow up", how did Krystal survive? And if you say that she was just not on Cerinia at the time, couldn't a lot of other Cerinians survived then? It's pretty much IMPLIED (not factual) that she's the last of her kind.

Now, to make something more realistic to why she's the only one left, I was thinking some kind of disease that just destroyed Cerinian's telepathy or something, basically eating their mind away. But... Why is Krystal special then?

*sigh*... Any help would be appreciated.

Well, now that you ask...

Cerinia is there, its inhabitants still alive, BUT..

Like Super Mario Land 2, 6 Golden Coins,

An evil Cerinian, a blue Fox, has placed all the Cerinians under a telepathic, hypnotic, mass mind control spell...

all while Krystal was exploring outer space, and when she returned, she was attacked by the Cerinians, so she fled from Cerinia, and went to Sauria (Star Fox Adventures)

The Cerinians are still under the spell of the evil blue Cerinian fox...

Errr... I don't think that would exactly fit with some of the other stuff in my story.

All Adventures says... Is that...

"From the depths of space, a girl named KRYSTAL searches for the truth of her parents' death. Finding herself within a lost corner of the Lylat System, she receives a distress call from a world know as DINOSAUR PLANET. Being of kind nature, Krystal decides to investigate..."

Don't be sorry, I mean... I'm not really clear with what I'm asking. It's hard to talk about it since I would be talking about some spoilers.

Let's just say, there are OTHER important events planned in the story, and those are related to Cerinia "blowing up"...

But... I can't find a good enough excuse/reason for why Krystal survived. If I say she just wasn't on the planet, then a lot of Cerinians could have survived that way.

According to the SF Adventures instruction booklet, Krystal IS the only survivor of Cerinia, so, that's something to consider when thinking of a possible Cerinia explanation...

I don't believe that...

Why not make her special? She could've been on the planet, and it could've exploded. Then something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL3Tbjd3AYM&feature=PlayList&p=6D6D7C99F89FE947&index=4 could have happened.

If you care to know, that guy winds up getting drug into a rift in space/time to visit with someone supernatural and then gets teleported to an island on the planet he's from after the meeting, and is later picked up by his team because they detect his signal.

It's a thought, anyway.

well super man was lauched out of the orbit and awya from Kyrpton

so possibly Krystal got away like that.

either that or she was old enough to take that square freighter she had away from Cerinia just in time.

"The only survivor of her doomed home planet of Cerinia, Krystal roams the galaxy in search of answers. When a distress call draws her to a small planet in the Lylat system, Krystal suspects that she may finally be drawing closer to the truth..."

Honestly I don't belive she's the only survivor either ,but at the current time in the Lylat system anohter cerinian is yet to be found.

Yeah, that's the direct quote from the Adventures handbook, and that's canon.

The only thing I don't like about the "Oh, she just flew away in time", or "Oh, Krystal wasn't on Cerinia when it blew up" explanation, is that... Well, quite frankly, it's too easy. If Krystal did that, why was she the only one that survived? Could others just fly away, as well?

maybe she was th only one that knew it was going to blow.... perhaps she was the only one near enough to the docking bays (fault lines)....or maybe we should just go with the superman thing...

Right. Krystal obviously seems like the kind of person that would just let everyone else on her planet die, while she flies away.

I'm sure that a bunch of telepaths could figure out if she was telling the truth or not.

Anyway, that conversation isn't what this thread is for. I'm not debating if she's the only survivor. I don't care about her for the moment.

I'm talking about Cerinia.

So wait did you want why Cerinia blew up then?

I"m sure a bunch of Wise old telepaths would belive a young girl.

Stop derailing it. I'm SURE that if you are telepathic, you can tell when someone is lying or telling the truth.

So wait did you want why Cerinia blew up then?

Yes. Why, and how. And if. We know it's "doomed", we don't know if it really blew up.

Make the subject more clear next time then.

well Andross most likely had something to do with it Directly or Indirectly is the big question though I think he did it Indirectly  with some sort of experiment.

Read the freakin' thread title, and the first post that I made. It was pretty clear before you derailed it. Now STOP! No more off topic, I swear. Don't reply to this.

Andross is a spirit from SF 64, to his revival in Adventures. That's 8 years. 8 years ago, Krystal was 11. It's not very likely that he was the only survivor from Cerinia, at the age of 11, and managed to talk care of herself for 8 years.

Ohhh! Misunderstood.

So you want an explanation for what "doomed" means, huh?

Uhm...let's try...

How about decadence? The decline of society to a point where it just collapses in on itself and everyone kills each other? Granted, there'd probably be more people like Krystal who'd see it for what it is and want to get away, so that might not work either, but it's a thought.

Perhaps the telepathy was the problem, and the arrival of a Cthulhu-like creature spread madness around the entire planet due to the link everyone has. Krystal was perhaps immune or strong enough-willed to block the effects in her own mind, but everyone else was left gibbering and eventually died of starvation or whatnot, leaving her the sole survivor. Admittedly, that would require a "destined child" type of storyline, but hey. What're fanboys for?

If you want a reason for the planet blowing up, try a Death Star idea. Some highly advanced race of beings decided to use a super weapon as a bargaining chip and Cerinia happened to be its target. Unlucky them.

I don't expect you'll actually use any of these, but I hope they get your thought processes running.

Yeah, your kind of post is what I was (trying) to ask for. Ideas of how Cerinia was "doomed".

The topic about Krystal surviving came up, because in most of the ideas that I had, (besides Cerinia just blowing up), it required Krystal to be the "chosen one" or some crap like that.

You're going to have that problem whenever you deal with the "sole survivor" cliché, sadly. Rare/Nintendo didn't leave you with a whole bunch of options unless you want to simply decide that she -wasn't- the only one who survived. After all, it's a fanfiction and you can bend it as much as you want to.

Heh. That's the point, though. In my story, she isn't the only one. Another Cerinian in my story, kinda did have that "chosen/lucky" one thing... But, I'm trying to fix Krystal's story, since the other character's story was already planned out.
