I love the KA. I like the thousands of fanarts that are kept/linked there.

While I don't want to judge everyones work like it's a chunk of meat. I do find the quality of work to be one of 2 extremes. The good and great fanarts. These can be clever, funny, or just well drawn. All good.

My problem is the amount of crap that floods the list. Most notably, the large number of poser pictures and doodles where she romances character x. (Usually the artist or his avatar.)

I propose one of the following

-We have a list of recomended arts

-We have a number of arts broken into catagories. (Poser, Colour, OOC ect)

-We make some kind of art rating system. (hard to do)

-Or something like that

It's at this point comes the really hard bit. How are arts to be judged, if at all. It's obvious flame and drama bait. Forum members works would have to banned to stop people voting for friends, or not. Should it be done?

I'd also like to know what your standards for Krystal art are. Mine are-

Like

-Wit

-Cleverness

-Funnies

-Artistic-ness

-Passion projects

Dislike (overridden if it does one of the above)

-Pointless poser pics (Here's Krystal standing on a beach. Here's krystal standing on a hill. Here's Krystal... and so on)

-Smut/Tarty

-Non cannon romance

-Randoms

To clarify what I posted above. I don't mind those dislikes when done well. eg. I don't mind a non cannon romance provided it's funny, or well done. Likes trumps dislikes.

So. Should we (if possable) make a fan art recomend list, how should it be judged, and what do love and hate the most in Krystal fanarts?

-Clothes that krystal Probably couldn't get (Jeans and the like you know Modern clothes that she would proabably have a hard time getting in a Future world.)

Far as the Archive goes, if I'm not mistaken, it's supposed to be a compilation of as much G or PG Krystal-related material as possible. I think in the description of what is acceptable, Mr. Krystal says quality of art doesn't matter, so I imagine that was his intent from the beginning.

Besides, if we start basing it on our likes and dislikes, then nothing will get posted. Everyone has different opinions, but in the end the only one that counts is the person who posts the lists of fanart.

All very good points. Except for the non-canon romance, since it is covered with all the other rules (accepted if it's clever or well done, or removed if it is terribly done). Thus that rule isn't really necessary.

Indeed it was my intention from the beginning to not bias on quality. I did this because at the time there were less than 500 or so widely available fanarts, and new ones didn't appear nearly as rapidly as they do now. It was also because "quality" is arbitrary. Some of my favorite fanarts are non-realistic sketches.

I do bias on content, with particular regard to items of sexual or near-nudity nature. With Krystal, that line is walked quite often. I have a well defined threshold, but I haven't widely published it. More or less, I've designed my acceptance or rejection (and warnings) of KA listings based both on my personal beliefs and the goal of making the KA appropriate for all ages.

That said, I would not mind a ranking system, even an arbitrary one. Some ranking could be better than none, and often many people ask for said ranking. The problem is the scale of such a ranking. Even if I had a perfectly defined ranking system, there's about 5000 fanarts that must be manually ranked (since my scripts only deal with text, not images).

If we did it as a group, it could be done, or even if you wanted to point out specific ones as favorites, without ranking all of them, that could also work. I just can't do it myself. Too much work. If any or all of you want to do it, all I need is the unique ID (the number at the end of DA and FA addresses) and how you want to rank or "pick" that given fanart. It would be fairly easy to write a script to add that to the listing.

My intent wasn't to change to KA, rather just make a fan listing somewhere, even just here, but whatever works.

The problem with a ranking feature is that early leaders tend to stay at the top, due to getting the most views, and thus, votes.

I just can't do it myself

You already have loads to do, even when it's just running the KA. I wouldn't want to mess with the KA either. That's up to you if you want to do that. Everyone has voted No so far anyway.

Don't give a da@#, so we shouldn't care about how good or bad something looks.

maybe like a top ten most clicked or have a system of favorites and the top ten most favorite but then again that leads down a road of hurt feelings and biased judgments :(

I fear someone would take it very hard if their artwork got a low ranking.

But some kind of categories like Sabre suggest could be a good idea.

BTW, while I myself mostly do Poser renders, I hope you doesn't view them as cheap or pointless, since I put a lot of time and work into making them.

I have a bit of a problem with poser genrally, it's the same issue I have with Gmod comics and digital art. They are so easy in the way that you just download stuff, press a few buttons and hey presto, instant pic. This ease means that even bad pictures look flash, but the stanard is low.

Using G-mod as an example again. For every concerned and jeremy tibbles, theres a million 'waky' comics of random crap. In terms of Poser, it's X doing Y at place Z.

Gamer comics as my main artistic outlet at the moment. I understand it's a saturated medium, but I believe I offer something better then the plentiful crap. My view count shows otherwise however. Just because we judge our own work as superior doesn't mean it is.

Gmod isn't that easy to use Sabre and some people download stuff for other 'artistic' Programs theres a definate skill to getting a Good Gmod picture..yes they don't do all the art work ,but getting all those models in the right place is alot harder than it looks.

Uh.

I don't see a need for it.

Just don't look at the art that you don't like. People draw what they like, honestly.

Can't you stand at least a few pictures out of the ton you all have? Seriously.

I found Gmod easy.

The problem is, during a 200 picture update, about 90 of them will be rubbishy poser crap. Another 50 will be sub par scribbles. The rest will be worth checking out, and some might even be classics that you link to even non SF fans. I'm sure theres a bit of confirmation bias in there, but I agree with you oerall.

Thing is, how can you tell which images you want to see without some kind of sorting or rating system? That is why I started this topic in the first place.

If you really wanna see some good pictures, I say looking through the rubble is worth it.
