WTF?!?! Yeah, putting the engine from a front engine, 4WD car in the trunk is the same exact thing as a rear engined car

and to add insult to injury, that is at the old AMC Proving Grounds in Kenosha

Yeah. I get so pissed off when I see special or rare cars get destroyed on telly.

I almost died when they killed that (possibly 1970) Cadillac El Dorado.

Hey guys, I've sort of been out of the loop for a couple days, and here's why:

IMAG00152.jpg

I sold my beloved Honda 350 and bought this bike. She's a 1991 Suzuki Bandit 400, and she rides perfect aside from a bent set of handlebars (replacing tomorrow) and a dodgy second gear, which necessitates a tranny rebuild. Hopefully I can get that fixed within the month. I made a nice little profit on the deal too, so I'm very happy.

Also, there are these Japanese characters on the side of the tank:

IMAG00162.jpg

I'd like to know what they say. My dad thinks it says "House of the Samurai", I think it says "Egg Fu Yung", my neighbor thinks it says "Invest in Japan" and my mechanic friend thinks it says "No Spares Available". Anybody here read Japanese?

^ Oh my gosh, that is simply BEYOND AWESOME!!!!! That bike sure is a beauty! :D

Congrats with a new bike Showtime! Looks real nice.

I think Dermot knows some japanese. Guess it won't hurt if you send him a PM.

Ohh fender bender this morning at my school parkin lot. I park in I drop my burrito, I bend over to pick it up, I hear swirving and tires screeching. I look up and I see my teacher doing 70 in a 25 zone. She then turns and booom! Right into a guys truck. First time I've seen a teacher be in trouble. Turns out, she was late for class. He he he....

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I've put on a new set of handlebars now, and I'm working on ordering the necessary gears through BikeBandit.com. Them little cogs are expensive!

Oh, the irony... The class should have given her a lecture on the dangers of haste, just like we always get...

Probably off-topic.

My father is not going to buy

me a car when I get 18..

He is going to buy himself

a new one and leave me his

current one.

It is a FIAT 1500 Familiar he bought

for $500 (Pesos, roughtly

equivalent to u$s150).

Outside it looks quite cool...

But inside, it was extensively

run-down. My father fixed and

replaced everything he could

and now it works quite well.

Oh well. As song as it is mine

I will repaint it and adds some

SF decals to it, if I can .

Mine has lasted for 27 years only problems are due to lasting 27 years, and the previous owners radio swap (Never buy a car that has been "fixed up" by somebody else, you never know what you are getting yourself into, my dad had a 79 F150, all I'll say is, beautiful truck, but ran like crap and had many illegal mods from the previous owner

Yeah, my dad bought the truck, just thinking all that was was a tool box, got home decided to open it, a fuel tank actually running to the engine

also had a crappy aftermarket alarm system which prevented my dad from starting the truck half the time, he eventually ripped the whole thing out

a faulty MSD box

2 batteries that prevented the hood from closing evenly, a carb that needed rebuilding twice a year

Buy a vehicle and fix her up yourself, that way, you know what you are getting yourself into

I spent the last couple hours doing some minor work on my engine, well, I decided to replace my fuel filter, I ended up buying the wrong one, and can't return it, wasn't much, but when I took the old one off, I noticed it was rattling, the filter inside was loose, which isn't right for a steel fuel filter, well, when I wolked down to the parts store, I asked them for the right filter, took them a bit to find it, the owner of the place got the phone, and he knows me, I'm in there all the time, I picked up the filter and shook it saying "That ain't right, is it"

He thinks it is because of all the ethanol in the fuels around here, ate up the glue in the old filter that was holding it in place (was a cheap Spectre filter)

This ethanol can't be good for any classic cars, especially when used as a daily driver, and there are people around herw with older daily drivers than me, a 66 Ford truck, late 60s Valiant, and one guy up until this past year daily drove a 50s Studebaker pickup.

I know it is horrible for marine engines, which is why I'm hesitant at getting my boat sea worthy again, I don't want to spend all this money and effort replacing the floor, wiring, and rebuilding the engine (if necessary) only to have the ethanol destroy it, and this is only at 10% ethanol, and they want to increase it to 15%

@ Eagle, The ethanol is only bad for the lower-quality plastics and resins in the fuel system, and that kind of stuff is much more common in newer cars. Older vehicles, especially ones with carburetors, aren't at quite as high a risk. It's just a matter of checking fuel lines and other plastic or rubber bits, to make sure the ethanol isn't dissolving anything important.

I had a bike with a fiberglass tank, and the ethanol dissolved the resin off of the inner layer over time. I had to keep cleaning out the float bowl in the carb because the resin would build up there. Similar to running leaded gasoline.

I like this Ethanol-laced stuff. At least in my bikes, I find that it runs better then pure dino-bone fuel. It's still not as good as 100 or 110 Low-Lead AVgas, though...

Also, the reason Ethanol can't be used in marine applications is because it bonds with water, then won't burn. Petrol will keep separate from water, but ethanol just soaks it up.

Ethanol burns a little better than ordinary petrol, and as long as the rubber and plastic can take it, it's good that it get used as a fuel. Gives a few more ponies under the hood.

Edit: Tought I'd share a couple of videos about one of my favorite cars with you. The original Ford GT40.

Here's an inboard camera from Le Mans, where it told that it hits 240 mph at the end of the Mulsane straight.

Here's one I uploaded myself some time ago. Jeremy Clarkson has a go in it.

Ever since I first heard of the GT40, I've been in love with it

this was in the mid/late 90s maybe, I know I was young, I was still using a Tandy 1000 at the time.

Since they made the Ford GT, everybody knows what I mean when I say GT40 now at least

I want a GT......BAAAAAADLY, used to be one at the local Ford Dealer

Same here, but they've also become collectors items like their forefathers, and won't drop in price anytime soon it seems.

What's even more impressive. You know how many brag about the Skyline R-34 being able to take 1000 horses on mostly stock internals and drivetrain? Well, I've checked around a little on those running GT's with everything from 1000 to 1500 horses, and believe it or not, many of them run, reliably, on stock internals and unchanged drivetrain.

That's nothing less than incredibly impressive if you ask me.
