welL on a similair note I'd like to drive

or

You seriously don't want to drive the mil-spec Humvee. I've tried sitting in one of those and they are so uncomfortable that it would ruin your back after a couple of minutes. That's why I love the civilian H1.

I think the Stryker APC has so many fatal design flaws that it really shouldn't have been put into production, it would make for a nice ride for the school run, but nothing more.

Okay, time for the obligatory double post and news update.

I'll kick off by talking about a fanfic centered round street racing that is ito be published on DA any time soon. What is so special about that you might ask. Well, it's being written by my good friend Daytonablue64Impala, an avid Starfox fan and furry that have written a long SF fanfic as well as drawn several great pictures related to this.

The street racing fanfic, named HEAT, was actually meant to be centered round anthromorpic characters, with the main character being a red fox. But this concept was sadly discarded to make things more realistic, and perhaps appeal to a larger audience.

Another thing that is worth mentioning is that there is another character in HEAT that is of particular interest, exspecialy to me. Look out for that one.

The prologue is schedued to be uploaded later today, make sure to check it out here.

Now over to other things. I have uploaded an awfull lot of pictures I have taken at some of the car shows I visited last year. The quality is poor, but I'll say they are still worth a quick watch. You can find them on my DA page, the link is in my signature.

To round things of, I have something to tell you.

Next weekend I am going to babysit my little brother, and as the caring and responsible big brother I am, I'm going to to the only logical thing.

Take him to the Norwegian championship in Formula Offroad. If you don't know what it is, Then let me explain.

It's a simple and light vehicle made of tubes and pipes welded together, truck axles and 4wd. Everything powered by an American V8 running on a mixture of alcohol and nitrous, producing up to 1000 horsepower in the most powerfull vehicles.

It's an icelandic invention (I like the icelandics, they are what norwegians should have been like.) that was featured in Top Gear some time ago, where it shocked Richard Hammond as it drove over a lake, with him as a passenger.

Take a look at this clip to see why I'm looking foreward to this.

I'll make sure to take some photos, and hopefully film some of the action.

okay what about these electric and hybrid cars?

Thanks for the reminder.

For everyone that is now wondering, we got a bit sidetracked in the zombie RP some time ago when I and Sabre agreed that electric and hybrid cars are a joke enviromental-wise.

Why? Let me explain.

The thing that most sets apart a hybrid or electric car (H&E from now on.) from a conventional car is the powerplant and energy storage.

There is nothing wrong with an electric motor. It have few moving parts, thus is reliable, it is compact and efficent. The only real backside I can see is that the sound and the charm from a normal combustion engine goes away.

The problem though, is the way the electric energy is stored.

The battery's we have now are not only incredibly heavy compared to a normal fuel tank, but they are also made from materials mined in some of the most enviromental damaging ways imaginable. Shipped round the world several times before they reach their final destination.

You see, contrary to what many believe, the most envirmental damaging part of a cars life is not running it. It is constructing it, and recycling it. The small gain in fuel-economy is dwarfed by the damage that is done by building it with a battery, even more when it has a two engines, which adds considerable extra weight to the car.

I see. now while were on the topic of engines what do you think of the Battle techs  fusion Reactor.(Not comparing to the ones we have today)

The fusion reactor, which produces enormous amounts of electricity from ordinary water, is the most efficient system for providing this power. Because the fusion reaction created by a BattleMech's power plant does not release neutrons, the power plant can operate indefinitely without becoming radioactive.

The fusion plant produces electricity by a process known as magneto hydrodynamics. In this process, magnetic fields are used to channel plasma from the fusion reaction into a loop. This plasma is electrically conductive, and so the loop functions as a powerful generating coil, producing both electricity and waste heat. Every BattleMech carries radiators called heat sinks to help dissipate this waste heat. Heat sinks are especially important because excessively high internal temperatures can disrupt the magnetic containment fields around a BattleMech's reactor. If a power plant's magnetic "jar" is disrupted, an uncontrolled fusion reaction may occur, releasing neutrons and exposing the BattleMech's internal systems and its MechWarrior to lethal radiation.

it is said these engines can last Decades  so instead of MPG we have MPD(Miles per Decade) http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Fusion_Engine

Can't say I've though much about such a powersource. It is a bit too sci-fi at the moment.

unfortunatly yeah it is although we have stuff like this today it's just really inefficient

True.

so do you think using used cooking oil as gas for a diesel engine is  enviromentally friendly?

Of course it is. Much better than to just throw it away, and use normal diesel instead at least.

too bad they don't have something like that for normal engines... can't belive people din't find this out sooner. i wonder what th  price of cooking oil diesel will be when it becomes a economy.

Well, I'm not sure I can say petrol engines are any more normal than diesel here. around 75% of all cars are sold with diesel engines here, and the only petrol car on the farm is my Corvette.

BTW, when Rudolph Diesel first invented his engine back in 1893, it was originaly meant to be run on just that, ordinary vegetable oil. But the oil industry saw what profit was possible to make by making it run on their mixture instead, so they changed it to their liking when Diesel comitted suicide and the patent was sold.

That'll never happen in America, sad to say, we're too busy digging grandpa holes, looking for oil...

Don't you mean Asper? :?

Anyway, I've just started uploading another one of my picture collections from another car show on my DA page, the link can be found in my signature.

I have also uploaded another clip on one of my Youtube accounts, the link can be found in the portal section: http://forums.starfox-online.net/index.php?topic=4699.0

As an added bonus. To market the 2010 Ford Mustang, Ford have created a cool customiser where you can create the 2010 Mustang of your dreams, and save it to your computer as a wallpaper. I've had lots of fun with it, go check it out: http://www.fordvehicles.com/the2010mustang/

I can beleive that! I hope I can participate myself in the next local car show.

I know, I know. :P

I typed in the wrong link though. I fixed it now, so you should be able to access it. Look around til you find a button labelled "customizer" and click it, the loading may take some time. But it will be worth it.

Don't be to jealous of Norway though. I'm considering moving to the US. It's a country much more suited to my attitude.

BTW: Julius, I know you ain't to fond of that 1995 Mustang you've got, but did you know they are called "Fox-body" Mustangs?
