rainfyre66
Thanks for the comments guys!Love the disclaimers on the video links, JQ! But you forgot to warn people that it also contains (*gasp!*) pool-playing!Anyhoo, I deleted the original incomplete Part 6 and am reposting the latest updated version. It's getting harder to write, as I won't be just adapting from my "book" version that I had also been working on simultaneously before. Haven't worked on that version in about a year and am just trying to resituate the rest of the plot sort of from scratch from here on out. I hope I can get it together fairly quickly, as after this expository chunk, I hope it gets more interesting for you guys as Lampwick gears up for the great escape, the Blue Fairy prepares for the battle between good and evil magic, truths are revealed, Honest John and Gideon decide to secretly conspire against the Coachman, and unexpected visitors will also arrive on the island in due time... rainfyre66
**The format gets wonked up in spots, but I'm too lazy to fix it right now, so I apologize for that**EXT: The docks of Pleasure Island, Night. The crated donkeys whimper fitfully in their crates, bumping into each other as they attempt to get comfortable for the night. They appear to be arguing and communicating with each other, though through grunts, brays, and kicks. They are becoming more animal than boy at this point. One of the crated donkeys wistfully watches the corralled donkeys. The corralled donkeys are also pacing and fidgeting as they try to settle down for the night, bickering with one another. Alexander is looking woefully up at the sky. Thick clouds are moving in front of the moon. ALEXANDER Who do you suppose that was out there at the gates? THOMAS Probably some kid that was lucky enough not to get caught like us. LUMP Lucky, nothing. If they catch him, they’ll kill him for sure. ALEXANDER Oh…well, do you think they’ll come back soon then? LUMP Will you shut up already? ANDREW Leave him alone! PIP Yeah, he has a point. Those two have been gone for awhile, and I’m not looking forward to when they come back! CHARLIE I wonder which kid is still out there? LUMP I bet it’s that wooden kid. He was so weird! You think he’s a wooden donkey too? ALEXANDER If he was wood, he might not even have changed. Maybe it’s just human kids. THOMAS You think too much. ANDREW At least he has a brain.Another petty argument ensues, but Alexander isn’t paying attention. His attention is back on the sky.A blue light cuts through the clouds. The vague blue shape seems to bounce across the sky and onto the rocks. ALEXANDER (excitedly) Did you guys see that? PIP See what? ALEXANDER That blue light that just came out of the clouds… ANDREW It was probably just lightning. THOMAS Yeah. With our luck, it’ll storm. LUMP Nah, that wimp is just seeing things. ALEXANDER But I DID see something, I swear it. It almost looked like a lady…No one is listening to him anymore. He sighs and lays down on all fours. ALEXANDER (grumbling to self) I did see something.A crated donkey is staring at him, his eyes seem to be telling Alexander he saw it too. ALEXANDER (to crated donkey) Did you see it, too?The crated donkey, of course couldn’t answer even if it wanted to. It gives a pathetic bray and Alexander realizes the language barrier. He sighs pitifully and rests his head on his hooves. The Blue Fairy looks down on this scene from high atop the rocks. She disappears as she hears a rumble of thunder in the distance. INT: Lampwick’s house, late evening.A ladle drops into a pot of watery, disgusting looking soup and is served into a bowl.Isabella brings the bowl of soup to Mother at the dinner table. Mother is even more frazzled looking than before. ISABELLA Mama, please eat some soup. I know it doesn’t look like much, but you haven’t eaten in days.Mother drags her spoon through the soup, then sighs. MOTHER How can I enjoy this when I know Lampwick could be out there somewhere on the street, starving to death? ISABELLA (disgusted) Wasting away?! Mama, come on, if I know Lampwick, he’s probably holed up somewhere, eating more food than we’ve ever had and having the time of his life while you sit here worrying and wasting away yourself! It’s just like Lampwick to be this selfish. (she gets up and goes over to the other side of the table) I know you love him, but you can’t ruin our lives just because he’s decided to ruin his. MOTHER You don’t understand. He is my son. ISABELLA And he’s my brother, but…just let him go. It’s what he wants anyway. Don’t blame yourself that he’s going to end up like…(hesitates) Like our father. MOTHER No. That’s not it at all. Something is not right. I can feel it.She rises from the table and heads towards the door. ISABELLA Mother! You can’t leave now! Please don’t tell me you’re going to see Dr. Ellis…Mother leaves. Isabella is taken aback. She begins clearing the table, grumbling. ISABELLA The doctor, again. This is all Lampwick’s fault. She sniffs the cold soup and makes a face. ISABELLA I bet you’re with Eugene, aren’t you Lampwick? Sitting in the lap of luxury, eating gourmet food while we practically starve. She sets the bowls down with a huff.INT: The burrows of Pleasure Island- Boris’s nook.A piece of dirty old chicken is placed down on the groundLampwick looks at the piece of chicken uncertainly. Boris also sets down a crushed pie next to the chicken. BORIS Well, help yourself. You must be starving.Lampwick hesitates, but his hunger gets the best of him. He lowers his head and rips off a chunk of chicken with his teeth. LAMPWICK So I guess it’s not the food that does it, then. BORIS Does what? LAMPWICK (mouth full) Changes the kids to donkeys. BORIS Oh no, the food is safe to eat. I’m lucky that the boys tend to be so wasteful up there. Means I have more to eat down here.He digs his misshapen hands into the pie. LAMPWICK So, are you going to answer my questions or not? BORIS (shakes head) Can’t even give a man a chance to enjoy his meal. LAMPWICK Look, I’m sorry, it’s just that I’ve got to get to the docks before midnight. The more I know about everything, the better our chances will be. BORIS Oh…I see. You plan to escape? LAMPWICK Yes. We can do it. There’s a lot more of us then there are of them. We’ll show them. Boris studies the determined, but foolish little donkey. BORIS Dear boy, it’s a noble thought. But if it was that easy, wouldn’t others have escaped the island before? You don’t know what you’re going up against… LAMPWICK Do you know? What happened to you, anyway? BORIS I was once a gullible, impudent little boy just like yourself once. The Coachman promised to take us to a place where’ we’d play all day and never have to go to school again, but of course he never mentions that it comes with a price- after enough time, a boy will catch the Donkey Fever… LAMPWICK (eagerly) And then he sells them off to places, I figured that out. BORIS Yes, well, I never got the full Donkey Fever. Ionly transformed partway, as you can see. And so,I can never leave this island. But I’m not the only one, though I don’t think the othersstarted off this way. I’ve lived in these burrows for years, staying out of the Coachman’s way and living off the food and clothing the boys leave behind.A black rat hops on his shoulder. He strokes it with his knuckles. BORIS (CONT’D) These rats have been my only friends all these long years. LAMPWICK That still doesn’t really answer anything! It just makes more questions! Why do you just let the Coachman keep doing this, why don’t you warnanybody? Why can’t anybody leave the island? Why has the Coachman let you live all these years, does he know about these burrows? And if you’ve been here so long, how do you not know how hemakes all this happen? How can I trust you? Tell me!Lampwick composes himself. LAMPWICK Please. BORIS You can trust me, Lampwick. You have my honor there. How this happens…I’ve watched for years and can never quite figure it out. But, from what I have gathered is that the Coachman is some kind of dark magician. LAMPWICK What? A magician?! You mean to tell me that thisis all some hocus-pocus abracadabra nonsense? I may be just a kid, but even I know some guy can’t go around pulling rabbits out of hats and turning boys into donkeys! BLUE FAIRY (OS) Well Lampwick, what other explanation do you have besides all this being some sort of magic? Lampwick and Boris react. They turn and see a beautiful winged woman appear in a whirl of blue light. She seems to float on air, and magic seems to form an aura around her. BLUE FAIRY I’ve been watching you since you’ve been on this island, Lampwick. You don’t believe in magic, yet you never questioned what a puppet was doing running around like a little boy? LAMPWICK You mean Pinocchio? I- I just figured he’d lost his arms and legs when he was young or got sick or something. What do you know about Pinocchio? Is he okay? BLUE FAIRY He escaped the island, yes. LAMPWICK Who are you, anyway? (turns to Boris) Do you know her? BLUE FAIRY I have been watching Pinocchio ever since I gave that puppet the gift of life. I am the Blue Fairy. And now, I have been watching you, dear Lampwick. LAMPWICK Me?...It was you that gave me my voice back, wasn’t it? BLUE FAIRY Yes, I saw the risk that you put yourself at to make sure that Pinocchio escaped safely, even if you couldn’t. I also sense that you want to help the others… LAMPWICK Yes! We’ve gotta get out of here, all of us! If we all gang up against the Coachman, he won’t be able to fight back! BLUE FAIRY (shaking head) You still haven’t realized the power of this island, and the power that lies in the Coachman. BORIS Do you know of his power, milady? BLUE FAIRY It is a dark magic, thought to have disappeared long ago, but I see now it was only in hiding. There are many fairies, but dark magic has since manifested itself into what we call the Dark Fairy. And now it seems that the Dark Fairy has manifested some of its power into Saul Omino. LAMPWICK Saul Omino? Is that the Coachman? BLUE FAIRY Yes. I was unaware of their existence for years, it wasn’t until I followed Pinocchio’s moves that I saw the true nature of this island. LAMPWICK (crestfallen) So not even you know how he does everything… BORIS Buck up son, at least we have someone on our side. LAMPWICK That’s it! You gave me my voice back, and with your powers, you can transform us back into boys. All of us. He nods his head to indicate Boris. BLUE FAIRY I wish it was that easy, Lampwick. But, you boys did not end up as donkeys without reason. The power of good must be proven to work its magic, on those who are brave, truthful, and unselfish…Lampwick is unfazed. He trots out of Boris’s nook and back into the burrows. He looks back at Boris and the Fairy. LAMPWICK Well, are you guys coming? Boris, you gotta know the quickest way to get to the docks. BORIS Lampwick, did you hear what she said? LAMPWICK So she can’t change us back now, we can still try to break out of here. Besides, if we’re ever going to figure out what this Omino guy and the Dark Fairy are up to and stop them, now is the time. Come on!He takes off into the tunnel. Boris sighs wearily. BORIS Such an impudent boy, but I must say I think he does have everyone’s best interests at heart right now. BLUE FAIRY Yes. I do believe that Lampwick could discover a part of his heart that he has never known, that could be key in helping us. But…A loud rumble of thunder is heard. The Blue Fairy looks up towards the sky. BLUE FAIRY He is ignorant of the danger that lies ahead. I am not the only one that has made a discovery tonight. The Dark Fairy has sensed my presence, and I have a feeling he will not let any of us go without a fight…

rainfyre66
Alright folks, I'm gonna need some motivation from you guys! I really do want to finish/rewrite this, and create artwork and other designs for it, but I can't seem to dig up the motivation for it! This is a special project to me personally, as well as in my mind that unlike fanfic, this isn't just something for fun by a fan for fans, it's a project I want to take seriously and put a strong effort into it not only to see if I could make something of it one day, but to see if doing what I set out to do with this originally motivates me to pick up my ass and start pursuing the things I've wanted to for a very long time- go to art school to study concept art, character and set design, and animation, and bone up on my screenwriting so that maybe one day I'd be able to do these things on some sort of professional level. I'm not a huge advocate of compliment fishing, but that's basically what I'm doing, or even want just any sort of helpful advice you can give me with this, I'd appreciate it! Guest DRL
Well rainfyre (66), I am sure youknow that Julius will not be aroundfor a while (hopefully will be backsoon, however), so that pretty muchleaves me as your only 'commenter',or so I think. As far as the story goes, it is prettygood. I do not see any major 'flaws'(such as contradictions or plotholes),and it is not uberly long as the 'fanfic'writtings I have seen around.Keep up the good work! Who knows, you might even get me to continue my'Gems of Power' long story by writting this.

Fluxy
I actually read it earlier, but the stupid box said I couldn't post, and then I forgot to come back later. This is really interesting and good. I would like to see it continue as well. :)
