Star Fox: Lost.

"I'm great, Falco," Katt replied cheerfully, even though she was covered in mosquito bites and hadn't bathed in days.

"Good.  You worry about your own hide..."  Falco was secretly relieved Katt was okay.

The ground was now starting to rise steeper and steeper as they marched on. And they were now using their hands nearly as much as their feet just to get further.

"This is going to get pretty dangerous soon." Wolf noted to the rest of the group. "The rocks seems to be volcanic. Loose and crumbling. We better tie us together like the boy scouts already did." Wolf hinted at Falco, Fox and Panther, which earlier had bound themselves together with a rope.

The fact that the island had been volcanic didn't surprise him much. How else would a huge rocklike this rise up from the sea? There didn't come smoke from the top of the mountain tough, so he was pretty sure the volcano was inactive.

"What do we do when we get to the top?"

[Asper Sarnoff]

"We'll get a good overview of the island and the sea. Maybe we can even spot land elsewhere as well when we get higher up? When we have some more knowledge on things, we will be able to plan ahead a bit. We'll also spend this night up there as well, as we don't have time to look for another suitable spot today." Wolf mumbled in reply as he tied the rope around himself, he was up front.

Wolf mumbled in reply as he tied the rope around himself, he was up front.

"Agreed on both..."

"Very good..."

The three of them worked with the group to get to the top.

As they keept climbing, their speed was reduced to a slow crawl up the mountainside. Sure there were lots of places to place your hands and feet. But the rocks was treacherous and often crumbled away under them once weight was put on. Wolf made sure he didn't rip loose any stones. With him being up in the front, any stones could hit those below him. besides, with him being the heaviest, the others might not be able to hold him if he fell.

The climb had probably lasted only a couple of hours, but it feelt like an eternity as Wolf once again took a look back over his shoulder. The mountainside wasn't completely vertical, but more than steep enough that anyone who fell, would tumble down several hundred yards into their death, with no chance of stopping the fall.

Once again, he pushed his hand into a crack in the mountainside, and clenched it tightly together, jamming it in there so he could hoist himself higher up.

"Be careful, guys, try not to fall."

"Hey Wolf, if you fall, don't worry, since you're up ahead of us,

we'll all just move aside out of your way so you won't hit us." Falco joked with Wolf to make light of the situation. (my friend/former neighbor used to joke like that when we went on hikes xD)

"If anyone falls, we'll just toss you down after them, and you can pluck them in your talons and fly them to safety." Panther teased.

"Now you know I don't fly on my own, I need a spacecraft or somethin' like that."

Leon pressed on, staying behind Wolf most of the way, and glanced over his shoulder at Katt.  "Ahhh, c'mon, you ninny!  At least put some more back into it."  He snarled and turned back around, following Wolf.  "Hey, blood brother.  How much further do we have until we reach to where we're going?  I don't think I can last much longer while hearing these other goons squabble so much..."  He whispered to Wolf, while speeding up; climbing right next to him.

Katt furrowed her eyebrows together determinedly, grasping a thick rock wedged into the ground. Her palms felt tingly and sweaty when she glanced over at her shoulder to see the almost-vertical climb, but she quickly focused her gaze back onto the job set in front of her.

"Ah, my arms..." she grunted. She wasn't used to this much muscle work in one day and she felt sore as ever. She raised her head to look up at the ground above them, then groaned lightly-- they still had quite a ways to go.

Falco and Fox helped Katt along.

At hearing Leon, Falco responded to him with

"Shut your trap, lizard, or you and I are gonna scrap!  The only goon I hear squabbling is you!"

Fox smiled, hearing Falco stand up for Katt.

"You do like Katt, don't you, Falco?".  Fox was careful to whisper.

"Mind your own business, Fox!" Falco whispered back, jokingly....

"We would 'scrap' if you didn't use that same line as you did back on Corneria a few years ago.  Learn yourself some new vocabulary for once..."  Leon retorted back to Falco and continued on.  "Besides, I think the bird has the hots for the cat, if I'm not wrong.  heh, heh.."

"at this point in time arguing will just slow us down Leon i suggest you keep your lips shut.

"Come on! Shut up everyone. Or I'll jump off and take you all with me!" Wolf growled over his shoulder as he keept climbing. It was starting to slope marginally less and less for each foot they covered. The would get to the top pretty soon.

As if someone had heard his mind. The mountainside suddenly stopped right in front of him. Being replaced with thin air. They had finally reached the top.

He crawled over the edge and stood up. As fas as he could see, they were standing on a large plateau on the edge of a massive crater, the mouth of the now dead volcano.

Wolf turned around and started to help the others up over the edge.

Leon rolled over the top of the volcano and rose to his feet, looking down into the crater.  "Well, what do we do now, boss?"  He asked, looking over to Wolf.

"Mmm..the view's not bad at all..." *purr* Panther got a view of Krystal's behind as she climbed up ahead of him, onto the volcano rim.

"A better view than that would be seeing your bloody bruised carcass at the foot of the mountain after Krystal or I knock you down..." Fox teased Panther.

"We made it, dammit, we made it! Haha! Haaaa-hahahahahah!" Falco helped Katt up.

,  , and  joined the others, last, on the top.

"Well." Wolf shrugged his shoulders. "I tought it would be a good idea to get up here. We should be safe from those predators which attacked us last night, and we can get an overlook over the island. Which will help us a lot in planning our next move."

Wolf stepped closer to the edge from which he just a minute earlier had climbed over. He could clearly see the crash sites which their aircrafts had landed. Except for Slippy's, Leon's and Panther's ones, which had landed more out of sight.

As far as he could see, that part of the island consisted of long, slooping hills covered with thick, tropical forests, and with some small, open plains here and there. It was the most unsuited terrain imaginable for trying to hide from predators which had the advatnage in numbers, speed, and stealth.

To the east, things seemed more promising. The ground rose into large cliffs which towered several hundred feets over the sea. Also probably volcanic in orgin. The kind of stones that meant was easily eroded and often made deep caves when exposed to the elements over a long amount of time. That mean they could perhaps find a good place to make their base there. On the other hand, the bare rocks and cliffs meant they would have to go to the jungle to gather fruit and hunt for food. The tall cliffs by the sea definatively didn't invite them to try out fishing either.

The western part seemed to consist of wide, open plains. Parted by a large river which came down from the volcano. Even from this distance, he could spot the movement of several large heards of animals there.

They would make great places for hunting, but with no cover to speak off, not a good place to stay permanently.

The crater in front of them obscured the view to the north. So Wolf decided he would walk around it's boundaries until he had gotten around it and could get a good view of that island as well. He dropped his backpack down on the ground. "I packed down a lot of fruits. Help yourself to it if you're hungry. I'll take a look around the other side of the crater." He said before he turned around and started walking.

"I made sure to pack some of the water we got.'Krystal noted  setting her pack on the ground.

Leon looked over his shoulder at the others climbing up, then at the Katt and Wolf, then shrugged.  He walked along the end of the crater, counting how many steps he was taking, and snatched a bug that had flown by his head.  It crunched in his hand and he looked down at it, then his tongue swiftly slapped it from his hand and he began chewing on it as he continued on walking.

"Good job Krystal, and Wolf...thanks..." Fox had almost forgotten to pack any water or food.  Fortunately, he had some fruit, and a hollowed out coconut filed with fresh water and plugged with a knothole filling from a tree.

"We're good, thanks..." Falco had also packed some nuts, and roots, along with some water in a hollowed out coconut plugged by non poisonous mushroom.

"We're fine..." Panther had taken a hollowed out coconut, and filled it with water, plugged it with a wedge-shaped pebble, and he had packed some mushrooms and some berries, which he knew were safe to eat, 'cause he recognized the species of flora they came from.

Fox sat next to Krystal, Falco by Katt, and Panther just rested, staring out at sea.

The edge of the crater was rough, and concisted of loose rocks and gravel. A wrong step, and he could either fall down several hundred feets down the side of the volcano on one side, or almost as far into the crater itself on the other side. He doubted he would survive the fall anyway, so he proceeded with caution.

As he neared the other side of the crater from the others, probably around a mile across, he started to get a clearer view of the northernt side of the island. He stopped up and snorted in irritation as he saw the thick layer of fog hovering over the northern parts and covering it. As far as he could see with his one eye, there was no other land in sight.

A light breeze whirled trough his fur. It feelt good in the steaking climate, and it was also good for another thing.

In front of his eye, the fog started to blow away, taken by the wind and spread out. What it revealed, he almost couldn't believe. He rubbed his eye with the back of his hand to make sure it wasn't playing him a trick. It didn't.

Wolf turned around and formed a cone with his hands in front of his mouth before he shouted back at the others.

"Hey! Come here! There is something you must see!"

"What?!"Krystal asked Running up to wolf from the center of the Crater they had relaxed in..

"What?"Krystl asked rushing up to wolf.

Leon jogged back over to the group, unbeknowngst to what the commotion was about, and slowed to a walk.  "Gaahhhh, whats all this racket for?  Are we being invaded by crazy jungle fruit from veggie-land?"  He joked, sneering at his own remark, and stopped a few yards from the group.  "Could it be ANYTHING other than survival junk that we keep 'Unanounceively' stumbling across?"  After saying that, he eyed another bug that was buzzing around everyone.  "Iiiii see ya, you delishable..."  He quietly mumbled

They came over to where he stood.

"What is it, Wolf?"

"What's all the ruckus?"

"What's going on?"

Wolf lifted a clawed finger and pointed downward to the island far below them. Around 15 miles north from their location, a strange shape protruded from the jungle. To thin and tall to be natural.

It was a tower of some sort. A man-made building. Wolf let his arm fall down by his side again.

"We're not alone here." He mumbled as mixed emotions raged trough him.

There were other, intelligent beings here, or it had been. The beasts that attacked them could never have built something like that. He feelt relief that there might be an early leave from this island, but also fear if the other people no longer where here.
