AWESOME! Hopefully I won't have to wait as long for the next chapter. This really has been an exciting story so far, has yet to disappoint.

Well, the story itself is coming close to the end. Not to worry, I have already started a sequel...

Chapter Eleven

Katt headed through the dark halls of the Class-II Reman Warbird. Her eyes seemed to give off a translucent glow as she peered around one corner. Nothing. Kyle’s squad had been here already, Katt reasoned. There were dead bodies strewn through the hallway in every imaginable pose of death. She checked the load of her MA48, then headed around the corner, stopping only to blow away a Star Wolf marine that strayed too close.

Katt followed her heart to find Kyle, fearing she was too late...

The bridge crew of Trayus’ ship didn’t make a move when Kyle and his squad blew open the doors. Trayus stood in the center of the bridge, lightsaber in hand, staring at Kyle.

“Kylet’oran...” he growled.

“Trayus.” Kyle said in a sinister manner.

“You are a fool to face me here.” Trayus said. “I killed you once, but you came back. When I kill you this time, I’ll make sure you don’t come back.” Kyle activated his lightsabers, and growled,

“I had hoped for nothing less.” Kyle lurched at Trayus, and the duel began...

About halfway to the bridge, Katt heard lightsaber clashes in the distance. She knew then that Kyle had found Wolf, and she was running out of time. Would she get to the bridge and save Kyle before...

No, Katt thought, don’t think, keep moving. She followed the trail of bodies that Kyle’s squad had left in their wake.

After crossing two intersections and rounding three corners, she came across the bridge crew, running from what was going on in the bridge. Katt followed the sounds of the lightsaber clashes, hoping she would find Kyle before he was lost forever...

While Katt looked for Kyle on the enemy flagship, Fox was faced with a dilemma; The Borg had annihilated the remains of the Star Wolf fleet and their base, and now were trying to assimilate the Class-II Reman Warbird. Of course, the Star Fox battle fleet had no problems with the borg, especially with the Dragon’s Rage leading the charge.

The ship rocked under the impact of a class-II shield inversion torpedo, sparks flared from somewhere above, and Fox ordered,

“Report!”

“Shields at eighty-six percent and holding.” the tactical officer replied. Fox smiled.

“Remind me to thank your CO for putting this ship together so well.” he said. The tactical officer smiled.

“Yes, sir.” The ship rocked under another torpedo impact, and Fox ordered,

“Target the vessel that’s firing those shield inversion torpedoes and fire Transphasic torpedoes!”

“Target acquired; Borg battle sphere, bearing two-three-six-mark-eight. Transphasic torpedoes firing.” The Class-II Dragonarian Warbird fired two transphasic torpedoes at the Borg battle sphere attacking its aft quarter. The torpedoes struck dead-on, and blew the pesky sphere out of existence. Afterward, the warbird fired its HVMDC at a Diamond and fired a Bio-Pulse beam at an adjacent cube. The Diamond was blown away as the slug tore through the center of the ship and detonated its power source. The cube, on the other hand, had a huge chunk blown out of its hull. A second Bio-Pulse beam, fired in quick succession, found something very explosive on the cube and detonated it like a giant grenade, tearing the cube apart.

While the Star Fox fleet fought the borg, Fox pondered Kyle’s fate...

Although Kyle and Trayus technically stood on equal terms, Kyle actually had the upper hand. Kyle had two lightsabers, and Trayus only had one, even though it was a longsaber. And Kyle was relentless in his attacks. He had trained for years to face Trayus this day, and he was determined not to fail. Trayus was tired and weakening, was reaching the end of his endurance, and Kyle knew it.

Kyle leapt over Trayus’ head, deflecting a swing aimed at his arms in mid-air, landed, and made a slash on Trayus’ back. Trayus cried out, rounded on Kyle, and made a series of jabs and thrusts, attempting to outdo Kyle in speed. But Kyle had other plans. He dove to the ground, rolled, ran up a wall, kicked off spinning like a drill bit, and landed on his feet, nearly taking off Trayus’ head. Unfortunately, Trayus had ducked, and spun around, trying to cut Kyle’s legs off. Of course, Kyle saw this coming, and jumped over the blade, bringing his lightsabers down on Trayus’ head. Trayus brought his longsaber up just in time, and the two warriors stood there, staring into each other’s eyes.

“You’ve fought well today, Kyle.” Trayus said.

“This is just the beginning,” Kyle grunted. He pulled an arm back, gathered his force power, pushed his hand forward, and sent Trayus flying. Trayus hit an overlooking balcony rail, fell, and hit the stairs going down to the captain’s chair. He fell down the steps and hit the chair, but still found the strength to slump into the chair to await his death...

Katt finally found the bridge in time to see Kyle standing with his lightsabers in a scissor formation at Wolf’s neck.

“Now, Trayus, you will meet your death!” Kyle growled.

“Kyle, stop!” Katt called out. Upon hearing Katt’s voice, Kyle froze.

“What are you waiting for? Kill me. I am unarmed.” Wolf taunted.

“Don’t listen to him! Remember the Dragonarian warrior code! Killing an unarmed opponent is an act of dishonor! He must live!” Katt exclaimed.

“Don’t listen to her! She’s weak! She cannot grant you the vengeance you’ve striven for all these years! Don’t debase yourself by loving one such as her!” Wolf yelled. Katt could tell this wouldn’t end well. She knew that Kyle wouldn’t stand for such an insult. She had failed.

However, contrary to what Katt thought was about to happen, Kyle hesitated. Time seemed to freeze, and Kyle just stood there, ready to kill Wolf, end all his pain and misery. But, just as Kyle was about to strike Wolf down and give in to his anger and hatred, he removed his lightsabers from Wolf’s neck and de-activated them.

“I know what you’re trying to do.” Kyle said. “I won’t do it.”

“I knew it... you’re weak, just like her. Just like Star Fox.” Wolf said.

“If I was weak, I wouldn’t have bested you. I trained for this for years.” Kyle countered.

“Then why, after you bested me so easily, do you not simply finish your task?” Wolf inquired.

“Because to do that, I would have to embrace the dark side, as you did.” Kyle explained. “Unlike you, I have people who care about me, and they don’t want me to become just like you.”

“Fool... as long as I’m alive, Star Wolf will never die.” Wolf said. “I will simply beckon more of the galaxy’s enemies, and I will hunt you down until you and Star Fox are no more. I will have my revenge.”

“Those are bold words, Trayus,” Kyle said, “but hollow ones. It is you brought this war upon yourself. And it is you who bears the responsibility for the death of your guild. Where you’re going, you will not be able to cause the galaxy or Star Fox anymore trouble.” Kyle walked toward Katt, and just as Wolf was about to attack Kyle, a pair of wrist blades gutted Wolf from behind. Kyle turned around to see Panther de-cloak. “That’s good timing, Panther.” Kyle said.

“What are friends for?” Panther replied. Katt immediately ran over and hugged Kyle. She kissed him lightly, and asked,

“So, was this all a part of your elaborate plan?” Kyle smiled, hugged Katt, and replied in a hushed, relieved tone,

“It’ll all be explained when we get back to HQ.” Kyle and Katt walked out of the bridge, transported off-ship, and the Star Fox fleet, with the Class-II Reman Warbird in tow, headed back to Star Fox HQ...

Unfortunately, this is the final chapter in Star Fox: Warring Guilds. I promise you, I will post the sequel soon!

This chapter explains Kyle's big, elaborate plan he had set in motion over the course of this book. (Maybe you noticed it, maybe you didn't.)

Chapter Twelve

Upon returning to Star Fox HQ, Kyle called the head members together to reveal his reasons for what had transpired.

“So,” Fox started, “You knew Wolf would declare war on us?”

“And you knew that Wolf was a Sith Lord?” Krystal added.

“I did.” Kyle replied. “I had long suspected that Wolf was planning to destroy Star Fox, but I had no proof. I certainly couldn’t come to you and blurt it out--”

“--so you laid out a plan...” Falco stated.

“...a plan we’d follow.” Lucy finished.

“Exactly.” Kyle said. “I wanted to know what was going through Wolf’s head, so I... persuaded Panther to turn spy for me, and he’d been watching Wolf’s moves. When he reported that Star Wolf had made an alliance with the Borg, I had him go aboard the cube that scanned Star Fox HQ’s defenses.

“After the cube arrived, I projected a holographic copy of this station over the original, with inaccurate sensor readings for all defenses, strengths and weaknesses.”

“In other words, you tricked Star Wolf into attacking us.” Slippy stated.

“Yes and no.” Kyle replied. “The initial assault was to confirm the readings that the cube got. But Wolf wasn’t expecting my ship to be present. When he saw it on a partial video feed transmitted by a Borg Sphere—the one I attacked in my JX-49—he went mad. According to Panther, he sent Darth Seinar to kill me. Seinar was only too eager to finish the job he started years ago, and a  Borg Scout Sphere equipped with a cloaking device transported him aboard with those drones.”

“If he arrived with the drones, why didn’t he fight us when we took them out?” Krystal asked.

“Because his target was me and only me.” Kyle answered. “He didn’t want to risk being seen by you or anyone else, because you could easily decompress that cargo bay. He wouldn’t have posed much of a threat floating in space.”

“But you knew he was there?” Fox inquired.

“I did. I wanted to let him think he had the element of surprise.” Kyle responded.

“How did your allies know we needed assistance?” Amanda asked.

“Shortly before the enemy fleet arrived, Wes sent a message to them, telling them to make haste here.”

“And I take it the Borg attacking the remains of the Star Wolf fleet after they retreated was also your doing?” Fox asked.

“No,” Kyle replied, “that was solely the collective’s doing. The queen was infuriated that Wolf—or Trayus as she knew him as—had failed to foresee that Species 8472 would intercept their fleet that was attempting to flank you, and sent a fleet to assimilate him.” There was a long pause as all of this was taken in. After a full two minutes of silence, Falco asked,

“How did Katt fit in with this grand master plan of yours?” Kyle looked into Katt’s green eyes, hesitated, and answered,

“She didn’t... not originally. I hadn’t planned on her understanding me better than anyone on my ship. But in light of what happened on Wolf’s ship,” Kyle looked at Falco, and added, “I’m glad she’s at my side.”

“Well, now that all of this is over, what do you plan to do now?” Fox inquired. Kyle looked at the table and shrugged.

“In all honesty, I don’t know. Before I came to you, I was just a vice admiral living in the woods of Dragonaria III with too many guns, retired from service because there were no more wars to fight.”

“Well, I think he should stay with us,” Krystal stated. “We could use his help if the Borg come knocking again.”

“I agree,” Lucy said. “He’s a more than capable commander. And he’s well-connected throughout the galaxy. That’ll come in handy some day.” Fox smiled.

“Well, Kyle... looks like you have a new family.”

“Yes... it would seem that I do.” Kyle replied. Katt leaned her head against Kyle’s shoulder and whispered in his ear,

“Welcome home, Kyle.” Kyle Sat there with Katt as the others left, and when they were in the room alone, she kissed him tenderly. Kyle didn’t bother looking into the force to see what was in store, he knew he would prosper. Here, at the end, marked a new journey...
