Kinda hidden easter egg picture in Adventures

Hi ya'll, first post.

Anyways, whilst recording certain cut-scenes in Starfox Adventures, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye that looked out of place. Tell me if you've seen this one before:

In the "lobby" area of the Great Fox where the characters lounge around, there are many pictures and screens on the walls. All of them are from the official artwork or from the Nintendo Power Player's Guide from Starfox 64, but one (between Fox and Peppy) seems to be a "Good times!" poster displaying a character that, to my knowledge isn't in the series at all (not even Starfox 2). See below:

The original screencapture.

As good as I could enhance with Photoshop Elements.

Now, here's what it looks like to me: A brown fox woman, who is wearing a blue bikini, brown and white boots, green bracelets, and a helmet similar to what Fox wore in Starfox 64. She also appears to have long blond hair (though this could easily be a yellow wing symbol in the background). Then, in the upper left corner, there is some writing, a "face" (two eyes and a mouth), and a heart.

Who is this?! Perhaps a previous girlfriend? Could this be the Fana I've heard a little about?

Sorry, my posts tend to be long, I'm just that way. Cool place!

"Could this be the Fana I've heard a little about?"

Fana McCloud is not an official character. Some one made her up as their own character which they portray themselves as online. Fana used to be an admin over at sf.org.

Also, I'm giving that screenshot the workover in Corel Photopaint. I'll show my results whan I get somehting accomplished.

Okay, i've done some low-pass filter and contrast-intensity enhancements on it. She stands out better now, but the blurriness isn't going to go away.

We've got a compressed image of a compressed texture here.

Hey, that's spiffy! Good job cleaning it up. Also, the image is easily visible in the first StarFox Team cutscene when Slippy is fixing up ROB, and it's in the final cutscene. (Wonder what Krystal thought? O_o ) Anyway, does anybody know RARE's email address? I think I'll ask them about it.

Double post.. Alright I have done it myself already and it IS there! But I have no idea how you got such good quality image. I took some screenshots of the "slippy fixing rob" scene, the ending scene, and some pics while switching menus between fox and peppy and here's what I got:

If it was scraped art from Dinosaur Planet (N64), there is no information on that character that I can find, nor is she the other Krystal, because she was always going to be blue.

I don't know either. Oh, and Dashster, I got the image switching between Fox and Peppy and taking many, many screenshots. That was the best one I could get. Does someone have the ROM? I know someone who may be able dig through the source code and grab the original image.

On a side note, wow! I've just seen trailers for Dinosaur Planet (N64) for the first time. Looks like it would have been a great game. Much similar to Adventures, but a lot different too.

I'd like to get it/them somehow. I'm trying to think of a way. I could download them seperately from wherever you got them. They are really too big to be directly transferred aren't they?

They are both like around 1.2 Gb but they can only be gotten through a bittorrent client. I use "Azureus" and to emulate them I use the Dolphin 1.2 emulator. However, Star Fox Adventures ROM does'nt work at all.. You only sometimes see the nintendo logo and stuff but it never gets into the menu screens. Unless you could dig up the source code...

Can you PM me where you get your emulators from? I can bittorrent from there. And don't worry about adventures not working. I won't be emulating it anyway, just sifting through the source code.

Its not really that hard finding them.. I look for emulators anywhere. You can find the gamecube emulator very easily just by typing in google search "Dolphin 1.02" and the first site that comes up thats the one.. Though GC emulator isn't even playable its just good for screenshotting games because the FPS is horrible..

Oh and one question I have.. How the hell do you get into the source code??

I never noticed that....

Well, it's next to Fox's chair, so perhaps....

It's possible, y'know.

But then, why'd he leave it out in the open like that? Do they all share ti or something?

Ey now if the guy wants to have a pinup vixen in his bridge there is nothing wrong with that.I would have done the same personally.

I don't mind pinups, but I'd rather keep mine in a more private place, like my room....

Not that I have any.

I'm not exactly sure of a specific technique, but the code of the game is in binary form in that ROM. Ones and Zeros are in a specific order depending on the machine in question. The Gamecube's operating language is unique from any other peice of hardware, but that sequence is known (the guys who made the emulator would have to know how this works). Anyway, once the sequence is known, you can use hand made scripts to cut the ones and zeros into whatever size chunks are involved (I'm guessing 32 bits because that's what the Gamecube's processor reads). Then use another script to turn the codes into assembly language commands (this is reverse engineering). From then on, you are looking at incredibly complicated code even from a programmer's perspecive, but it should be comprehendable. For this specific search, I'll need to find the place in the code where the image data is stored. Since images use their own standard codes, they won't look like logic code or 3d model code. Then I guess I'll get a script that turns the assembly code for an image into a normal file like JPEG.

I've never done any of this, but the guy who used to have the site Pokemon Forever did this stuff to the Pokemon games and was able to determine the exact formulas for Pokemon stats, breeding, friendlyness, and everything else. Right before he closed down his site, he said that he found unused text data in Pokemon Colosseum, so I know he can do this stuff with Gamecube games. I'll just ask him how and where he learned once I get the ROM downloaded. Hope that answers your question.
