KyiMk2
Been in the SF community since 1997 off an on, back for awhile I suppose. Ran Starfox.org in various guises, most of them died off because of a lack of motivation on my part.I Kinda drifted off when I went into the Air Force, and I vanished off the radar entirely when I got married. Still in the AF and happily married, but miss the old SF stuff I suppose.Cya around.

KyiMk2
Naw not a foot soldier, the Air Force has nothing like that except perhaps security forces, and they are only supposed to protect the base and be the air force equivalent of MP's. We have career fields that see combat, often when tasked to serve with the army, and they can be odd ones. For instance truck drivers and heavy equipment operators get tasked to do convoys, and EOD (Bomb Squad)Ā is tasked because the army doesn't have enough to deal with all the roadside bombs. That said, there are career fields that have a specific role that puts them in the line of fire, Combat Controllers, Pararescue, Ect, but all are in support of air operations, or rescue pilots. As for my job, I deal mainly with chemical warfare defense in wartime, which is a problem for the AF because we can't just "Pack up and Move" if we get hit with chemical weapons like an army unit, making us a prime target.Ā In peacetime we get tasked for hazmat response/terrorist use of WMD response. But there are tons of other career fields, everything from communications to medical to finance, who don't deal with aircraft usually.

KyiMk2
The AF height requirement is 58 inches but I don't know if it's waiveable. If by war you mean training stateside most of the time, or deploying to a base where you are less likely to get hit by a mortar than killed by a car back home (Or even murdered back home), the air force isn't very much "War" except for the guys on the receiving end of the JDAM and the Pilot dropping it. I have yet to deploy and almost no one from my shop has yet...and now that Iraq is winding down it's less and less likely in the near term. Air bases tend to stay the same size despite of a surge in and out of ground troops when fighting an insurgency. Now the Army and Marines, different story. Especially in Afghanistan now. Showtime 1-1
Ironically, I may be too tall to get into the Air Force. Don't want to smash my knees if I ever have to punch out...For what it's worth from a noob, Welcome to SF-O!

Showtime 1-1
I don't think I'd make a good ground-crewman. I'd die of jealousy for the pilots. And reaching things on airplanes is rarely a problem. Banging my forehead on wings, horizontal stabilizers and struts is, though.
