If Star Fox 2 had been released, would it have tanked?

Do you think Star Fox 2 would have been a success or a flop if it had been released on the SNES?

How do you think SF2 would have done on the SNES if they had released it? The SNES was on its way out at the time, as well as it had extremely different gameplay than the original. Would those factors alone have caused it to be an epic fail among gamers and critics? Do you think that's partly why Nintendo scrapped the sequel in the first place? Or would it have had the potential to be one of the SNES's great swan songs? Would it have just gotten lost in the shuffle, even if critics liked it? What are your thoughts/opinions?

I don't think we'll ever know what would have happened, plenty of games that look amazing can end up tanking for some odd reason, and many games that look like they're going to fail can end up amazing. I'm certain that game looked like it was going to be awesome, but seeing how it never had a chance to go public, we don't know what would have happened, it could have gone in any direction.

Unless Nintendo were to revive it through WiiWare or DSiWare, SF2 is just going to be one of those games that have been lost in time.

A success, due to the fact you can choose your own characters, your own mission routes, and the cool Arwings that can do walking mode.  :D

Critics would've probably liked it, and it would've likely sold well had it been released. It's a HUGE improvement over the first Star Fox, and it would've likely propelled Star Fox to the status of one of Nintendo's paramount series, like Mario and Zelda. Sadly, this would've likely meant no SF64 (as we know it), Adventures or Assault, but on the brighter side it would've meant no Command.

Well Starfox 2 is kinda a tactical shooter. People were nuts for tacticals but in the SNES age, but not as nutty as they were for RPGs. I would say it's would have been a success but due to seeing how popular Starfox is now, I'm going to say mediocre.

I'm sure it was have done well, but I think using ideas from that game to form SF64 was a better idea.

We really can't be 100% confident that SF2 would've been great, mediocre, dreadful or whatever if you think about it. We can only make assumptions on how it would've fared.
