Silver looked over his shoulder at the two who had engaged him. He eased off the throttle to let them catch up. The RWR started to light up as they both got locks on him. He chopped the throttle and let them get a little closer.

At the second that they fired, he reefed the StarCat into the tightest hammerhead he could with no G-diffusers and sped up in the dive, away from his pursuers and back towards Freya. The 'Cat was approaching it's top speed as Silver pulled it out of the power-dive and rolled off.

"You'll have to try harder then that, pups."

"Oh Sh!t..." said Cliff and Attila at the same time, as Silver evaded them.

"Did you see that!?Ā  Damn!" Cliff said to Attila

"This guy's got some serious skill!" Attila replied.

The two of them attemptedĀ  to pursue Silver.

Cliff moved as quickly as possible.Ā  When he caught up the nest he could to Silver, Clifff got his sights on the StarCat, and locked on..."I see you, BUTTHEAD!!!!" he said under his breath.Ā  He squeezed the trigger, and launched a Nova Bomb.

Logan walked down the long entrance hallway to the base. The place was quiet, and the only sound he could make out was that of the cold wind outside.

Inside was a huge circular room, with a giant computer station in the middle. Logan looked around for anyone, and walked slowly to the console. He admired all the buttons and screens.

"Wonder what this baby does?" He thought.

"HELLO?" Logan shouted. "ANYBODY HERE?"

No answer.

Logan squinted his eyes. Well either he was pretty early, or something was up.....

Silver recognized the sound his RWR made. Cliff's nova bomb was inbound, and fast.

Damn, these are always hard to dodge...

turning wouldn't do it. Throttles shoved full outboard, the wings swung all the way back and the StarCat accelerated. No good, the bomb was still catching up. This calls for... creative measures.

Silver's hand reached over, and he turned the avionics off. The digital instruments, HUD and radios all went dark, and the RWR went quiet. He then reached over to the arming panel, looking over his shoulder at the approaching red glow, and flipped a switch labeled "ECM", then another labeled "Arm EMP". The "ready" light came on and he pressed it in.

Cliff saw the explosion off in the distance and laughed.

"HA! GOTCHYA, OLD MAN!"

"You sure that was a good idea, Cliff?" Atilla replied. "Didn't you just shoot down one of our teammates?"

"Nah, that old fart had it coming." Cliff replied.

"Did I really?" Silver said, his radios back online after the EMP had done away with the nova bomb.

"WHAAAATTT??!?!?!?!?!?!?!"

Silver led the two off once more. They were beginning to learn, no longer both attacking from the same angles. They began to coordinate their fire and come from different directions, very nearly planting hits on the StarCat several times.

Silver saw the two fighters coming in again in front of him, and at range, Cliff opened fire. Silver easily rolled around the stream of lasers. However, as he got closer, he realized that it wasn't two fighters at all; only Cliff. Where is-

Atilla was above and behind the StarCat, having taken advantage of the ship's blind spots and the maneuvering Silver had to do to avoid Cliff.

"Now I've got ya!" Atilla growled as he fired a volley of shots at the big, wallowing ship.

Silver nearly jumped through the canopy when he heard the "bangBANG" of two shots hitting his ship. The right engine faltered and died, the fragile ion combustion upset by the laser blasts to the engine pod.

... and now it gets interesting...

Silver quickly pulled the right throttle back, shutting down the dead engine, and pulled through a barrel roll, forcing Atilla to overshoot. Halfway through the roll, Sliver looked up.

OH SH!T

Right below him, climbing straight up with a charged shot at the ready, was Freya's Wolfen, the Huntress.

She fired.

Silver reached down to the three switches at the base of the throttle quadrant and flipped them all from "Standby" to "Active". The control panel lit up with blue and the whole ship seemed to come alive as the G-diffusers came to life. The trailing edges of the wings flashed blue, then began to glow.

Freya's shot neared the ship.

Silver pulled the joystick full left and kicked in full right rudder. The StarCat responded with illogical swiftness, snapping around on it's axis just as the charged shot flashed past. It went over the sideways craft's back and passed so close to the port wing that it left a burnt streak along the top before screaming off into space.

"All right, Starwolf. you got me."

Silver rolled level, the StarCat now trailing the three defining blue streaks of the triple G-Diffusers.

Krystal wraped her arm around Fox's and let him 'escort' her to to the gym."How long untill we reach Fichina?"Krystal asked Fox.

Tiberius was on the bridge, kicking his feet up and setting them on the console in front of him. He sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the view of space.

(Good one Showtime! )

"Yeah! We did it!Ā  Woo!" cheered Cliff.

"I'll say...good job, Freya!" said Attila.

"Good job, Attila." said Cliff.

"Great effort, Cliff." said Attila.

(Had a great yesterday. Bowling, theater and shopping. Bought Tom Clancy's HAWX dirt cheap as well, now I'll be able to put the joystick I got hold of earlier to good use.

And thanks to Showtime for letting Freya have her moment, and redeem herself. That was some great writing. Few dogfighting scenes I've read that was better.)

"Great work guys." Freya said to them all over the channel. "We still have a long way to go, but not bad for our first training together." She took the lead of the group as they headed back to the space station. "Silver, the Starcat have taken a few hits. Just keep her together untill we've landed, and I'll get one of our mechanics crew assigned to help you out with the repairs." She said to him.

She had slowed down, as to not let the Silver have to strain the damaged fighter more than needed to keep up. The feeling that she had managed to best the old veteran, even if it was with the help of Attila and Cliff, and a good dose of luck, was great. She had always knew she weren't hopeless, but her father had made sure that she never got the impression that she were unbeatable. She wasn't sure if she should be glad for that, or not.

"Sargasso space station. This is Huntress. Starwolf coming in for landing in hangar 1. One fighter lightly damaged. Clear the deck and ready a mechanical team. Over." She noticed the tower.

"Roger that Huntress, Lord O'Donnell is awaiting you in the hangar personally. Over."

Freya furrowed her eyebrows in irritation. She was sure that wasn't good news. "Roger that tower. Over and out."

:wolf:

Wolf was leaning on the rail of the bridge running over the flight deck. Patiently awaiting that Freya and her team would burst into the hangar. It was unfortunate that they would be thrown into their first mission before they had more time to bond and train. But luckily, this wouldn't require any dogfighting if things went as planned. It was crucial that Freya's mistake was undone as quickly as possible.

Odin came around a corner and walked into Fox and Krystal, sending them a friendly nod as they passed by each other. Just after, he came up on the bridge, where Tiberius was relaxing in the captains chair, and with Serena overseeing the navigation of the ship. He dumped down into one of the four chairs behind the captains one, leaning back and putting his hands behind his head. He didn't say a word, just sat still and watched space pass by outside.

(glad you had fun, Asper! )

After Attila and Cliff docked at Sargasso, they checked out and fixed any needed repairs on their ships, and then when they were finished, they hung out in the lounge.Ā  Somehow, Cliff convinced Attila to join him in a farting contest.Ā  They could be heard chuckling and farting every five minutes.

(Thanks guys, I just wanted to get some story happening, I think Kursed and Tiberius are getting impatient... I didn't give Freya any lines simply because they always seemed forced, I guess she's strong-silent.)

"GET YER STINKIN' PRIMATE HANDS OFF MY SHIP!" Silver yelled as he opened the canopy once back inside the station. He had been busy routing power from the G-diffusers to the dead engine after the fight, and he didn't bother to deny Freya's offers to have other people repair the StarCat. He also noticed that she was flying slower, probably for his sake, even though the 'Cat could take much more. He had destroyed entire convoys on one engine, after all...

"But sir..." one of the ground crew started.

"LISTEN!"

...the ground crew listened.

"If there's anything you can do for me, Go find me an Ion Drive Mk.3b engine." He glanced back at the right engine pod, and the holes in it. "Looks like I'm gonna need one."

He pulled his helmet off and climbed out of the cockpit. His ears were flattened from the helmet, his whiskers bent from his oxygen mask and his tails were numb from being sat on. The black streak along the left wing was cosmetic only, and aside from that, the only damage was the right engine.

"Well, that was fun," Silver grinned as he reached for his tools and began to take the maintenance panels off the starboard engine pod.

Freya searched over the hull of the Huntress, apart from the odd chip of paint from asteroid shards, it was unharmed. Satisfied with it, she headed over to Silver, which seemingly wasn't to happy with the ground crew who had come to help him with the repairs. "The Mk.3b isn't a very common engine. It might take a couple of days before we can get hold of one." She said to his back as he was busy removing the now dead engine from its mounts. She were about to continue when she noticed someone heading for them over the hanger floor. It was Wolf.

"We confiscated a 39TT freighter some days ago. They useĀ  Ion Technologies Mk.3b engines as secondaries. We should be able to have your fighter repaired within the next 24 hours." Wolf said as he passed by Silver. "However, your first mission can't wait that long. My spies have told me the Great Fox is heading for Fichinia." He stopped up in front of Freya. "You, Attila and Cliff are to leave at once. It will be a ground mission, mostly recon. I will brief you on the journey." He then turned around and walked back out of the hangar.

Freya resisted the urge to run after him, now she needed to focus on getting ready for her first mission together with her teammates. It was a pity Silver wouldn't be able to come with them.

"Cliff, Attila! Saddle up again. We're leaving for Fichinia at once." She said to her two companions as she started stuffing one of her prefilled "mission bags" into the cargo bay of her Wolfen. She always keept a variety of bags readily packed with clothing and stuff that would almost certainly become useful during longer missions. That way, she could be ready to move out on a moments notice, and still be prepared for most situations. This particular one was marked "Arctic", and included a change of clothing identical to what she had on now, a warm winter jacket, some food ratios, folding skis and staves, and some other gear that would be nifty in a cold envirmoment.

"Fichina!?Ā  Aw, man....major cold, major shrinkage..." complained Cliff.

"Heh heh..." Attila laughed, hearing Cliff complain.

The two of them grabbed their winter/cold gear from their rooms, packed it, and came back down to the hangar, placing their bags in their fighters.

"Ready when you are, boss." Attila said to Freya.

Cliff stood there, but not picking his nose like he usually did.Ā  He was having a flashback, to his earliest memory...

This music played:

http://www.corneriasound.com/betamusic/gcorgancath.mp3

Cliff was an infant, a rather large infant, being christened by a clergyman, an old Fox, as Cliff's father Todd held him over the cistern of holy water.

"Do you accept the way of Star Fox?" asked the priest.

"Yes." Todd answered for Cliff.

"Do you accept the The Fox, The Hare, The Falcon, and The Toad into your heart?"

"Yes" replied Todd.

"Do you accept the good ways of Lylat?"

"Yes"

"Do you accept the teachings of the Krazoa?"

"Yes"

"Will you accept instructions to 'Do A Barrel Roll'?"

"Yes"

"Do you renounce Andross, and all his deceitful ways, and empty promises?"

"Yes"

"Do you renounce the Aparoids, the Sharpclaw, and the Red Eye, and their ways?"

"Yes"

"Do you renounce Pigma, in all his deceitful evil?"

"I do"

"Do reject the Anglar, not just because of their evil, but because of the fact they are not canon to the series?"

"YES"

"Then I baptize you, Cliff, my son, in the name of The Fox, The Hare, The Falcon, and The Toad..."

The priest then said something in what sounded like Latin, then said something in Cerinian, as he baptized Cliff.

"Cliff?Ā  Cliff?Ā  CLIFF!"Ā  Attila shook Cliff.

"Huh?Ā  Wha-!?"Ā  Cliff came back to reality.

"We gotta go." said Attila, looking at Cliff with concern.

"Right." said Cliff.

Freya walked up behind Silver, which was still busy working on the Starcat. "I'm sorry I had to let it go that far, and thus deny you to take part in this mission." She put her helmet on and strapped it up. "On the other hand. It will probably be both boring, and cold. You will probably have a lot better time here. I'm sure you won't get bored. There is enough of things to do around here."

She turned around, walked up to the Huntress and climbed abord. The canopy closed down over her with the familiar hiss of compressed air.

"Tower. Starwolf 1, 2 and 3 ready for departure." She called up the air controll tower. They were never really busy. But Wolf had enforced the strict rules for air traffic after an accident they had many years ago. Were a mercenary fighter launched straight into a landing freighter.

"Copy that Huntress, you are clear for take-of. Over and out." Came the confirmation from tower.

Freya taxed the fighter into position before she launched it out trough the hangar and into space.

She pushed a button on her helmet, and the sunvisor came down over her eyes and down to her muzzle. Even if the glass in the canopy filtered away all dangerous radiation, one could still get blinded by the rays of the sun if not carefull.

"Starwolf, set your course for Fichinia." She noted Cliff and Attila as she punched in the coordinates into the navi-computer. As one could not make communications while travveling at the speed of light, Wolfs briefing would have to wait until they had reached the planet.

A loud beep signaled the calculations had been made for the jump. Freya lined up the fighter before opened the cover over a large, red button, and pressed it.

In a spark of light, she disapperead in front of Cliff and Attila, which had left just behind her. She would reach Fichinia in a couple of hours.

(Damn, Asper, you read my mind about the engine.)

Silver was angry about missing the first real mission, he knew he wasn't gonna be getting a very big paycheque because of this. At the same time, he was happy to hear that he wouldn't have to go padding around that snowball Fichina. The cold didn't bother him as much as the fact that he would have to leave his fighter.

He sighed.

"Be careful. I won't be here to bail you out if things get bad." he said to nobody as he watched the team take off.

He then turned back to his work. The old engine was out and he saw the new one making it's way across the hangar on a service platform.

24 hours... pah. I'll have this thing in by the end of the day. I'll be able to- wait, did he say the Great Fox?

(I'm gonna make it so that Silver has fought alongside the Starfox team in the past, making him a bit apprehensive to fight at first. Just keeping my options open for other RPs.Ā  :P)

(Hehe, was the only way I could explain how we had a replacement handy.

And it's a great idea to give him a history with Starfox. Go for that.)

Freya leaned back into the comfy seat of her Wolfen. The only thing to be seen outside was a hypnotic, blue haze spiralling in front of her. It had gotten boring to look at over an hour ago, and she was now shuffling trough her songs on the stereo system. The only creature comfort she had opted for when she customised her Wolfen.

Up came "Desolate City", one of her favorites.

"We are lions in a cage

Pet tigers fueled on rage

Weā€™re the moonlight weā€™re the clouds

We are losers, we are proud

We are magic we are class

A hand with knuckles made of brass

We are good times, turned bad

We are the action you never had"

It reminded her all to much of themself now. Did they have what it takes to succeed in a galaxy like this? Many mercenary teams had gone under recently, but there was still to many competing for to few jobs.

Finally, a beep from the navi-computer signaled they had reached their destination. Freya turned of the music and pulled the craft out of hyperspace. The view outside changed into the dark space again, with the cold planet of Fichinia right ahead.

Almost immediatly, she received a call. It didn't take a genious to guess who that was.

"Are you going in now?" Came the dark, hoarse voice she wasn't entirely sure on wheter to love or hate.

"Yes we are. Could you give us that briefing? Cliff and Attila just exited hyperspace behind me now." She answered as she entered the atmosphere of the planet, upping her shields to maximum to protect from the enourmous friction, and thus heat, the rapid decent would cause.

"You know the guy I told you to find and recruit while you were on Corneria? Odin Douglas?"

"Yes. He wasn't there. But we allready have our pilots, if we for some reason found him, we wouldn't have much use of him." She responded. Why was her dad so interested in recruiting this guy?

"I do know where he is. The same day as you were on Fichinia, he signed up with Starfox." Wolf replied, completely emotionless. Freya furrowed her eyebrows. "That's unfortunate. But what can we do abou that now?"

"You are to lure him away from his teammates, with force if necesary, and offer him a spot on Starwolf if he deflected. Give him an offer he cannot refuse. I'll send you the files I have on him immediatly." Wolf replied, Freya could hear his claws clicking against his keypad as he sent the files.

"Is he really that good?" She sighed as she flattened out and flew just over the frozen surface of the planet.

"Not much better than what you've allready got. But it is crucial that he won't get killed, which would be inevitable if we are to crush Starfox into oblivion. The boys dad is a close friend." Wolf took a long pause before he continued. "I've made the neccesary preparations for this operation, and I've just sent you what you need to know. Good luck."

The connection was broken before Freya had a chance to reply.

Meanwhile on the Great Fox, Odin awakend from the slumber he had fallen into. A quick glance at the ships navigation system told him they were coming up to Fichinia. "Were will we be landing first?" he asked Tiberius, which was still sitting by the controllers.

"I'm not sure. Dad said I should try to hire him when I meet you two on Corneria. But as you know, things didn't go that way." Freya replied as she brought up the file Wolf had sent her. Her expression turned to surprise as she recognised the guy on the photography that came up on the screen. It was the guy she and Attila had passed by when they left the Hog. That unexpected, but also very annoying.

Had she bothered to find and memorize a picture of him before she left for Corneria, she could have recruited him there and then, and thus saved them the bother of this mission.

"Base? You've tought of everything, haven't you?" Odin replied as he got on his feet and walked forward to get a better view. "I guess we will take the shuttle down?"

Logan sat a metal seat in front of a computer console. He had been there for an hour now. He was down to his last three cookies and no one had come for him. Maybe he DID read the directions wrong.....

Logan looked at a holo-clock on his wrist watch. He'd give it another half and hour. If no one showed had shown up by then....well I guess it would be back to Corneria. He could already hear his dad screaming at him for screwing up his chances.

"Looking foward to that...." He thought dryly to himself.
