Asper Sarnoff
(I'll just head out then, so Julius won't have to wait any longer.)Odin wound the scarf around his face several times, covering it up untill there only was a slit for his eyes to see trough, and then he put on a pair of protective glasses. The wind speed while on a hover bike would make it a cold trip. He would have to take a break midway. Luckily, there was a traveller shelter right on his route. He jumped up onto the hover bike and sat down. Among the many bikes they had at the base, he had picked his favorite, a chopperlike brute with comfortable seating. He kickstarted it at first try, and the large V-twin burbled into life. "I'll be back before nightfall." He shouted to Tiberius, Logan and Kari over the noise of the engine. The gate out of the base started to open, the harsh snowstorm ragin outside imediatly started to whirl snow inside. Odin gunned the bike out of the gate and disappeared from the view of his teammates into the white storm.Cliff wrote his name in the snow (with pee) on Fichina as he chuckled moronically. Attila watched in amusement, and stood guard over their temporary landing site. "So this is where part of the Aparoid wars were fought...we almost lost this planet and the climate control center?" he asked out loud to no one in particular."Yes. This is where the traitor Pigma fleed. If he had been successfull in destroying the climate control center, much of the planets inhabitants would have frozen to death. Fichinia is scarcely populated, but it would still have been several millions." Freya answered Attila as she covered up the air intakes of the Huntress, it would keep the snow away and don't strain the engines unnecesary when she started it up again. There's an abandoned building a mile west for our position. A concrete block made to provide refuge for travelers during snowstorms. The sooner we can start the ovens and heat it up, the warmer and more comfortable will we be."She grabbed her bag and opened it up, retrieving her winter jacket. It was quite mild weather here now, even tough it seemed like there was a snowstorm in the south. She put it on an zipped it up, and then she pressed a couple of buttons on her belt, which caused the nanowires in her pants and boots to start heating up a little, helping her to keep warm."I just got another message from my father. His contacts in the satelite controll has spotted our target, moving north straight towards us at high speed. He's running straigh into out trap." She continued as she hoised her bag over her shoulder and started walking towards the shelter. "He will be here in about half an hour. Hurry now, so we can make our preparations." Guest Julius Quasar
Cliff and Attila covered up their ships' vents, and engine jets and afterburners, to keep out the wind, snow, and cold. When they finished, they put on their winter coats, and grabbed their gear bags and followed Freya to the shelter. Asper Sarnoff
The moisture in his breath had made the scarf over his face damp, and caused it to freeze. It was annoying, but Odin knew he would reach the shelter any time now. There he would stay for about an hour before he continued. He had originally hoped to keep a speed of around 100 miles per hour, but the poor visibility caused by the snowstorm had forced him to go about half of that. The weather was moving north along with him, so there was no end to it in sight either. Then, out of the fog in front appeared the large, gray lump of concrete that was the shelter. The few, small windows let out a faint orange light. It seemed he wasn't the only one that had set course for it. It didn't matter. Most of the local Fichinians were rough, but honorable people. He doubted he would run into someone that might squel to the Cornerians. He stopped the bike outside, and leaned it against the wall. He didn't bother to cover it up, as the snow was falling to slowly to cover it up before he would get going again. He took of his glasses and tore away the scarf as he walked up to the door and knocked on it hard a couple of times. From within came the muffled voice of a female. "Come inn.", an invitation he was all to happy to ablige to. He showed the door open and walked inside, stamping the snow of his feet. The heat inside struck against him like a tide, it was one of the most wonderfull things he had feelt in a long time. He closed the door behind himself and took of his jacket. First now did he start to let his eyes sweep over the interior. It was made up of a small hallway, with a main room to the left, and a storage room to the right. Heavy and sturdy doors separated them from each other. As Odin entered the main room, he spotted the other visitors in a couple of large sofas on both side of a small table. The first one to caugh his attention was a fox. Heavily built, about the same as himself. The look in his eyes told Odin he wasn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer exactly. In the same sofa sat a gray cat, which body language ozed that he was bored with the situation, and that his sharp intellect would have been better spent elsewhere.Alone in the couch facing away from him however, sat a female wolf. He immediatly recognised her, she was the one he had caught a small glimpse of outside that bar on Corneria. She had stretched her long, perfectly formed body over the couch and were now looking at him curiously, as if she measured him from top to toe."Good evening, fellow travellers. I hope you won't mind if I stay for a little time before I continue on my journey." Odin asked politely. The shewolf nodded in response. "Of course not. You'll be welcome to join us for as long as you want." The smile she sent him caused his heart to skip a beat. She had a gorgeus face, he couldn't put his finger on how she did it, but she managed to look both soft, and strong at the same time. She pulled her feet closer to herself, giving him more than enough room to sit down by her side, which he so did. "You look cold. Would you like some warm cocoa?" She asked, gesturing to a couple of thermoses and four small cups on the table, steam rising up from three of them. Odin smiled, that was just what he needed to chase the rest of the cold away. He pushed aside the lesson his father had inprinted in him so many times, "Never eat or drink anything which someone else have had the chance to tinker with." How could someone who looked like this have dishonorable intentions? He thanked again as she reached him one of the cups, he put it to his mouth and took a long, slow draught, so he wouldn't burn himself in his hurry. It was so creamy and tastefull, more like drinking melted chocolate than cocoa. He took it away from his muzzle and sighed. "That's delicious! Thank you." The female only looked back with the same smile curling over her lips. Odin took another sip. "What's your name?" She asked him."Odin." He replied. "Odin Gray." He figured it was wisest to keep his surname hidden for the moment, he hadn't completely thrown caution out of the window, not yet. "I think we've meet before. At Corneria a couple of day ago, remember?" He answered."Yes we did." She answered. "I and Attila over there." She gestured to the cat. "Was on our way to meet our friend here, Cliff. I'm Freya by the way."Odin tought over it. "It's a beautyfull name. Fit for a woman blessed with the gift of beauty."He tought he spotted a glimpse of blushing under her gray fur, but it might have been his eyes which had tricked him, for a moment later it was gone. He was starting to feel a little dizzy, but he wasnt' sure why. Then as he lifted his cup up for another sip, it struck him. He lowered the cup away from his face again. He had been poisoned! His face transformed into a mask of rage as he growled at Freya. "Treachery!"He got up on his feet and threw the table aside before he grabbed hold under the other sofa, and with a burst of strength, toppled it backwards, sending Cliff and Attila tumbling over the floor.Light were dancing in front of his eyes as he turned around to face Freya again. "How wrong I were to let beauty blind me." He growled as he took a step towards her. He raised his hands, ready to grab hold of her and tear her apart in his rage. The world swam around in front of his eyes, his stength failed him and he fell down on his knees. He sent her a last pleading gaze before the world turned black and he fell forward. It took a few second before Freya could collect herself. It had been way to close for comfort. She had hoped he wouldn't realise they had drugged him till much later, but he hadn't been as easy to trick as she had tought."Take him to the storage room and secure him." She said to Cliff and Attila. Just before Odin had arrived, they had screwed a couple of manacles to the inner concrete wall of the storage room. About 5 feet apart and 5 feet up from the floor, which would hold his arms immobilised. When he woke up again, they could start bargaining. Guest Julius Quasar
(Good one, Asper!)Attila and Cliff dragged Odin into the back room. They removed his weapons, and Cliff said "What a butthead! I never woulda falled for that!" he said. "Yes you would've!" Attila said. "Would not!" Cliff replied, as he helped Attila shackle Odin in place. "Would too!" Attila replied, as they took Odin's weapons out of the back room. "Would too!" Attila said, closing the door to the room Odin was trapped in. "Would not!" Cliff said, locking the door and hanging the key on the hook next to the door. "Would too!" said Attila, as the two of them straightened up the room Odin had strewn apart in his fight for survival against the drugged hot cocoa. "Would not!" said Cliff, as they finished their work. "SHUT UP!!! Both of you idiots, just shut the hell up!" Freya shouted at Cliff and Attila."Sorry, Freya!" said Cliff and Attila simultaneously, as they laid out Odin's weapons and equipment on the table. They then studied what they took off of Odin. After that, they sat down, and Cliff complained "I wish we hadda TV in here." as he stared around the room. "I agree there." Attila chimed in, wishing he had brought a book. "Wait!" I know! I brought a pack of cards!" said Cliff. The two of them played poker with Cliff's cards. Asper Sarnoff
(Thanks Julius. It will be a couple of more mammoth blocks of text yet, but after that I'll ease up again.)A light flickered in front of Odin's eyes. He had only once tasted alcohol, and the following crapulence had given him a headache not far from what he experienced now. He feelt like he had to throw up, but held back and tried to focus, to see trough the haze. The world started to slowly clear up again. The banging headache was still there, but he could see clearly now.In front of him stood the woman that had tricked him so good. Arms crossed in front of her and a smug smile over her lips. Odin groaned and shook his head slightly. It was first now he realised he had been shakled to the wall behind him, with his arms streetched out to the side. "You're good at making someone feel welcome." He said sarcastically, his voice so hoarse at first it could barely be heard."Oh don't you worry Mr. Douglas. We've just got started." She said to him before she looked over her shoulder and shouted out trough the open door. "Attila! Cliff! Our guest had awakened." Her two companions came in a few seconds later. The large fox snorted loudly as he pointed at Odin and giggled triumphantly."He didn't have his real name on any of the equpment he had with him, they must have known all along who he were. "I'll guess you're bounty hunter then? I can hardly have a large bounty on my head, and I will gladly top any sum you have been offered." He said, keeping his voice as steady as his condition allowed. Things were clearing up faster now, and apart from the headache, he would never have guessed he had been unconcious. The woman smiled in response, the smile that he had earlier found beautyfull without compare now seemed false and treacherous to him. "It's not about money. We're not out to turn you in. In fact, you should consider yourself lucky. You see, my real name is indeed Freya. Freya O'Donnell."This sharpened things up even more. O'Donnell? As in the Lylat systems most feared crimelord?"I don't know about how lucky I am. As it seems I've caught the attention of the biggest scum in Lylat." He said.In the blink of an eye, Freya had covered the distance between them and grasped a small, but strong hand around his throat. "Don't you dare call him scum!" She hissed, raging flames burning in her eyes. It lasted only a second tough before she let go and took a step back, seemingly a bit shaked by her own outburst. She quickly collected herself together again. "We're offering you a spot as a pilot on Starwolf, if you deflect from the team you're currently on."This was unexpected. What did he have to offer them that they couldn't find elsewhere? "An intruging offer." He replied. "But I'm allready okay where I'm at. Why should I bother to leave it for a team which can be concisting entirely of incompetent idiots?" At the last bit he was looking at the fox, which were trying to swat a fly that had been awakened by the heat, only to hit himself in the face as it flew away."The new Starfox is allready doomed. Concisting of the two McCloud childs without any real combat experience, and a nevrotic hybrid. We on the other hand have four of the best pilots in the galaxy. Limitless resources and contacts, and the best equpment money can buy." She said confidently. Odin had no trouble beliving her. But turning on those he had allready pledged himself to was amon the things he could never be able to do."I'll give you my answer." He cast a glance over to Cliff and Attila. "But only to you. Come closer so I can whisper." He said. Freya got a curious expression on her face, it seemed like she knew this was unwise, but couldn't resist it anyway. She walked up to him, only the click of her boots against the concrete floor could be heard. She stopped with her face only a feet away from his. "Now, tell me. Do you accept?" She whispered. He replied with a sly smile."No, I don't." and with that, he shoot his head forward and let their lips connect into a kiss.It lasted for a second or so before she threw her head away and stumbled backwards. Her shocked expression told him she hadn't expected this. Odin threw up a victorious grin, but that also lasted only a second before her right fist shoot up and hit him hard on his cheek, throwing his head back and into the wall. The last toughts that shot trough his head before he passed out again was that she had a harder right than most the barroom brawlers he had fought, and she had been the best woman he had kissed his entire life.Freya was shaking with rage. How dared he! How could she have fallen for such a trick?"We'll let him hang here and think about his situation for a while before we continue the negotiations." She growled to Cliff and Attila as she passed them and walked out of the room.
