Like it or not, Starfox is a mercenary team, aka Private Military Company. They get paid for war. We all remember that funny moment when you hand over a large bill at the end of Starfox 64.

With all the recent talk about Army of Two, people are once again panning the game for it's pro PMC polatics (which we will avoid due to rule 10) but I have yet to meet any of those same people who believe Starfox is evil.

In otherwords. It starfox a hero, a warmonger, or just out for himself?

it's very possible that he has standards and only takes certain jobs. I know I would

Given what we know, he only contracts with legitimate forces on the side of defense.

Yeah, I don't think Fox would work for anyone else against Corneria even if they offered more $$$

I'd say he was originally motivated just so he could avenge his father, but judging by the way he acts towards General Pepper in Assault, maybe he's just gotten attached to the Cornerian forces. Also, he was born on Coreneria and went to the academy there.

I have some difficulty seeing him as a bad-a$$ loose cannon, contracting for just anybody.

^This

Fox would never side against Corneria

Fox definatively has a strong moralic code on what kind of jobs he and the team should accept. And as we can see in the beginning of Adventures, it also gave them a lot of trouble finding jobs. While Starwolf on the other hand isn't as bound to this as them, tough I do believe they wouldn't do everything for money either, and thus could stack up their own space station, loads of mercenaries, ships, the works.

Remember, Nintendo's characters are famous for never doing what their job title is:

Mario never does plumbing

Samus never does bounty hunting (not in any of the games, anyway)

Link never ends up doing whatever he was doing before he found out he's the Hero of Time

And Star Fox doesn't work for just anyone

Waaaiiittt...  What WAS he suppose to be doing before he found out?

Yes Star Fox members are mercenaries but they really only work for General Pepper/Cornerian Army. That means that they are in fact not mercenaries even though Nintendo/Rare say they are. The Cornerians always need help, the city on Corneria is destroyed a number of times, yet it appears that their army is in fact very large as seen in the opening cutscene of Star Fox Assault. The point is, Star Fox is really just the personal army for the Cornerians because they have a horrible military force.

Mario uses pipes at least. samus... I'll give you that. Hunters starts off fueled by money iirc, that's why there's a bunch of them. It's not bounty hunting though. More like tomb raiding?

School?

Seriously, he's a kid in the 3 games I know. In link to the past he does the whole game in his PJs. Ocerina he's a kid with no school and dressed as a fairy, and in Wind Waker he's wearing traditional party clothes, though no one ever mentions it in any game. I guess Hyrule is full of people in jim-jams/hippy cloths/party gear.

Well Fox's dad was part of the Corneria army, so I doubt Fox would side with anyone else other than that.

Starfox being a mercenary unit is my very excuse for the fact that he is on foot in Adventures and Assault.  They are a mercenary unit, not a flying squad, so they do whatever they get paid for, IE: fighting on foot.  Also, chances are that no one else even pays for them, since they were bored and out of work after both 64 and Assault.

Yeah, that's probably why they merged Dinosaur planet with SF

I'm still going on the long term contract idea.

In the original Mario Bros. arcade game, Mario and Luigi have to clean the underground pipes from monsters. I'm guessing THAT counts at them being plumbers, but they never do any more of that in the later tittles.

Samus never does bounty hunting (not in any of the games, anyway)

But.....actually you have a point. All of her missions are really Mercernary work, if anything.

Link never ends up doing whatever he was doing before he found out he's the Hero of Time

Errr that's because Link's occupation IS the Hero of Time/Winds/Minish/Twilight/Light/ ect ect. As a matter of fact did Link even really HAVE any occupation in any of the Zelda games? He was a part-time Farmer in Twilight Princess, Grandson of a Blacksmith in Minish Cap,  just trying to be a Kokiri in Oot, and just a kid celebrating his birthday in Wind Waker.

And Star Fox doesn't work for just anyone

Right. They're a hired team, one of the best in the business, and that's WHY the Cornerian army hires them so much. But I'm sure the Starfox team makes sure they don't take jobs that would go against their moral code. That's more than likely something that the Starwolf team does.

Ok... in ONE game out of hundreds, Mario actually did some plumbing.

In the newest game, he was about to be hired as an engineer when Ganon appeared.

Err thanks for the spoiler. I haven't played that yet....

Guess I should figure Gannon/Gannondorf would come back anyways, lol....

Hey, that's not a spoiler. The bad guy is a different person. At least I think... I haven't finished the game yet so I'm 80% sure.

Anyway, I think that fox fights only along side corneria or the justice of the lylat system. Even if there was money up for grabs, I doubt he would turn bad and go money hungry.
