Showtime 1-1
well, I finally got around to putting my ideas for a starfighter on to paper. This is my SF-214 StarCat, the modified one used by my RP character, Silver Phoenix. Yes, it's heavily based off of my true love, the F-14 Tomcat. I tried to keep the general traits of the Tomcat, while making it a unique, competitive starfighter for the Starfox universe.(note: all pictures are of Silver's version, with the G-diffusers. Hence the extra fins.)http://showtime1-1.deviantart.com/art/SF-214-StarCat-1-152329498http://showtime1-1.deviantart.com/art/SF-214-StarCat-2-152330323http://showtime1-1.deviantart.com/art/SF-214-StarCat-3-152330943http://showtime1-1.deviantart.com/art/SF-214-StarCat-4-152331406The SF-214 Starcat was first flown 32 years before the Lylat wars, and was very far ahead of it's time. It was based around two large Ion-drive engines, because G-diffuser technology was not reliable for such large fighters at the time. The SF-214 was designed to operate out of any base, from a ship on Zoness to a large Corenerian spaceport. The original fighter had a powerful radar in the nose, which would track and lock targets for the loadout of up to ten predator missiles or six guided missiles, which would be steered by the pilot in the rear seat. The Variable Geometry (swing) wings were the first of their type, and made the large Starcat surprisingly maneuverable in atmosphere-based dogfights. The Starcat's lazer cannon was based on the same gun which eventually became the Landmaster cannon. As smaller multirole starfighters utilizing G-diffuser technology were introduced, the Starcat was phased out of service. The new fighters were less expensive to buy and maintain and could hover and take off or land vertically, something the Starcat could not do. Eventually all airframes were destroyed. However, a short time after the Lylat wars, A mercenary cat named Silver Phoenix found one intact airframe in a junkyard in the outer rim. He re-built the entire fighter, fitting three G-diffusers and a lighter, newer radar, but keeping most other components the same. The main G-diffusers are mounted in the tops of the engine pods, and discharge through the main wings and stabilizers. The forward G-diffuser is mounted internally behind the cockpit, and discharges through the canard wings. This system gives the new StarCat the ability to hover, in addition to a power backup if one of the (somewhat unreliable) Ion Drive engines fail. However, diverting lift energy to provide thrust reduces the maneuverability of the StarCat.The Ion drive engines give the StarCat a distinct speed and power advantage against almost all other fighters. The engines are usually used for propulsion, while the G-diffusers are used for lift and maneuvering.Silver regularly uses the 214's Predator Missile system to shoot down large armored transports on "intercept and assassinate" missions. The ship's radar locks a target, then when a missile is fired it drops from it's mount, receives it's target from the ship's radar, then tracks the target on it's own. This system works well against most targets, but in a dogfight, the missiles will sometimes lose their lock on a maneuvering target.Despite the StarCat's age, it is still a dangerous opponent, both at a distance and in a dogfight. Mr. Foxer
Needs more detail, too simple. I understand that it is based off of a jet but it needs a more futuristic look IMO and I can hardly see any difference between the F-14 and the sketch. Showtime 1-1
I can hardly see any difference between the F-14 and the sketch. That was my goal. A sort of link between earth-based designs and starfighters. Just an F-14 for space, really.
Asper Sarnoff
I absolutely adore the F-14. One of my favorite fighters of all time. Like the backstory you made for it.

Showtime 1-1
I wish I could find some of my mid-class renditions of fighters. Some are pretty... eccentric. And I think a new paint job would do the Wolfen II some good.

Showtime 1-1
Yeah, I remember watching a scene from an animé once that showed a pretty awesome dogfight between two F-14s and two "MiG-29s", which turned out to be mechas (The Tomcat was right behind it, then it deployed it's 'pants' O.o)I'm pretty sure that the Skygrasper from the Gundam series was based on the Tomcat too, I used to draw those a lot. Showtime 1-1
Sorry for post x2, but I'd just like to point out that I updated the tri-view and uploaded a side-view only pic, now that I'm happier with the nose and tail. side-view: http://showtime1-1.deviantart.com/art/SF-214-StarCat-5-152731186Tri-view: http://showtime1-1.deviantart.com/art/SF-214-StarCat-2-152730952

Showtime 1-1
Yeah, it was a two seater from the start. I always liked the added versatility of a lower pilot workload. The longer canopy looks cool too.

Showtime 1-1
I love the cobra. A real beauty, especially for an attack 'copter.BTW, the Lockheed Cheyenne was a much larger, more complex application for the same role that the Cobra took. Pretty much an Apache before the technology was there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AH-56_Cheyenne

Showtime 1-1
starfox needs futuristic helecopters specailly hueys or blackhawks. Why have a helicopter when you have fighters that can hover? I'd like to see a SF Troop ship like that thing from the Clone Wars, pretty much an Mi-24... in space.

Asper Sarnoff
That's one huge b!tch, especially for a gunship. Looks more like a tactical bomber/transport...It's part transport as well, carries a load of exo-suits. But it's surprisingly manouverable, and armed to the teeth. The thing has like a dozen gatling batteries, several missile pods etc. etc. Watch the movie if you haven't, I think you can see it sometimes in the trailer as well.
