SFO Oekaki? Any other community ideas?

I've been thinking lately of new features to add to SFO to enhance the community aspect of the site. One of the ideas was an Oekaki board.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Oekaki, it is an online drawing system that allows you to draw pictures directly to the site.

What do you guys think? Would you use something like this?

Also, I think the Wiki has a good enough basic structure to start populating it with information. Mr. K. mentioned that someone was writing up some stuff for it.

If you have any ideas on community-involved things, feel free to post them here.

I probably wouldn't use the drawing system myself, but I'm sure others will find it useful :D

They're moderated...

how are we going to prevetn porn and other crap?

Same way we prevent it on the forums: Moderators and required registration to post.

I support the feature, just don't expect me to draw anything, I suck at drawing :P

OekakiPotato comes with an adult flag feature. That way, if you just cant help yourself from drawing nipples (heaven forbid), no one has to see them unless they have adult enabled. That way, we're free of some degree of liability, because there's nothing we can do about what you click. Of course, the only way to be free from complete liability is to not allow adult work at all. :P

Well, as far as I know, the HoI3 Wiki is up and running, and not that it is anything big... But heck, it contains everything about the game, included know bugs, beta stuff and even a modding guide...

So I clearly support it (The Wiki, I mean). About the drawing system, well, I do not seem to understand completely... I allows you to draw on-line something? I think it would be usefull to someone, sometime... Maybe not me, though.

What about trolls? :P

I don't consider myself a good enough drawer, especially digitally, to become a heavy user of an online drawing board.

It's a great idea tough, I say go for it.

As far as trolls popping by and drawing porn and other offensive stuff, I'm confident our moderators will find a way to ensure that doesn't happen.

I porblay won't be using it a lot either ,but as long as we can keep the crap off  of it I'm all for it.

If we do this, there won't be an adult mode. We have no way of verifying how old people are, and that's not the kind of art we are trying to promote anyway.

I don't draw (yet), so I doubt I'd use it. Depends on how many artist are here.

Well, personally I think it would help to draw attention to the site. As far as I now, the more features a site has (even thought many will not use them) the greater the chances of a "casual" fan (I mean, a fan of SF who is not in any site.) to like it. I think that if you are going to implement such system, maybe you should also implement a non-offensive fan-art gallery too. That way fans can make their own stuff or upload it (as long as it does not contains swearing or porn or whatever...).

As for an anti-troll system, we here (at S-A, I mean) our webpages have a prodesure like this:

1) Upload/Make an image

2) Wait for the image to be aproved by moderators (Thus, it is not shown until so).

3) If the image has any violation to the rules, react according to the violation´s level (I mean, if it is a "minor" violation, [e.g. contains a verbal insult/offence], you can tell the artist to correct it. If it a more serious violation, such as porn or execive violence for example, you can punish the troll accordingly).

It is slow, I know that, but believe me, it simply keeps fan-based galleries 100% clean.

If we ever have an Oekaki place, we will need new mods for it, cause certainly, I suck at rating art.

But it is easy to tell whenever something violates the rules or not.

If it contains something like...

Insults = bad. Tell the artist to correct it.

Porn & Extreme violence = Very bad. Penalize the troll.

Moderation is not always black and white. Though I'm not a mod here, I DO have mod experience. Hardly, if ever, is there a case where the answer on what to do is clear.

Anything on the Oekaki would have to conform to the SFO Image Policy, IE: No Porn, no Nazi shit, no hateful stuff, no troll images, etc. There wouldn't be a quality standard, just a content standard which we already use here at the forums.

That is what I mean. I understand that moderating a board is not easy - but an art galley, come on, all you have to do is to keep it safe for everyone. The quality of the art may vary, but it is easy to tell whenever an image is violating the rules or not... After all, you must simply look at it. From my perpective, anyone could be an art moderator as long as he/she/it knows well the rules and is active enough.
