Sabre
A few years ago, there was an attempt to prove time travel possible. A university project created a "time travel party" where they widely publicized that "a time traveler from the future should come here, during this time, or at least do something to indicate that time travel is possible. We will be observing and won't harm you in any way."No temporal events of any kind were noticed. If time travel is possible, even in the future, no-one uses it for anything remotely interesting.Did they build a working time machine? Remember, if time traval is possable, it uses the telephone system.Depends on the specific nature of the time machine. A wormhole-based system would cause a massive explosion. A Primer-based time machine would allow you to actually kill your previous self so long as you took certain precautions (because entering the time machine creates a duplicate outside of time). If you are talking about a hollywood-based time machine, literally anything could happen, because they're just making stuff up.So certain. ;)
Mr. Krystal
So certain. I am.I watched a several shows about wormhole physics, and read a book about such stuff. The calculations that allow for wormholes (which I don't think exist because they require you to use zeros in some of Einstein's equations, and we all know how zero messes stuff up) also derive that a massive explosion would ensue when the wormholes at different time periods are brought close together (necessary for the time travel to occur).A Primer-based time machine is based on the movie "Primer" where two engineers accidentally invent time travel by creating a charged box that breaks outside of time. Once the box is "on" the inside of the box is quantumly uncertain. After a while, say two hours, you turn "off" the box, and get inside before it "winds down." The box then travels at real speed but in the direction opposite real time, reaching in 2 hours the time it was turned "on." At that point, you can exit the box and are a full duplicate of your past self. Depending on how you interact with the box (turn it off before your past self has a chance to get in, or prevent your past self from entering the box, or any number of other things) determines what happens to you, what happens to your duplicate, and what happens to time itself. Their time machine is based on certain physical particle interactions that occur the same way whether traveling forward or backward in time. Here is a very basic, and incorrect, diagram of how the process works (or at least how the characters think it works at the beginning of the film):http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Time_Travel_Method-2.svg
Guest Julius Quasar
^ Sweet! The thing is, if time travel were possible, the government would stop at nothing to retain sole control over it...at least that's what I've heard.
Mr. Foxer
All we need is a gravitational field generator strong enough to bend the space-time dimension.
Sableye
What will happen if you got so far ahead in the future, that humans proably were wiped out and an new major race replace them or evolve engough for you to not notice of their similarity. ( Hee Hee you know what's im tlaking about.)
Falcory
Like everyone said, I really wouldn't want to risk it....to many things could go wrong. But if I had to choose, I'd say the past. I would like to see my parents as children. That would be pretty cool.

X-Gamer
Well, technically time travel is possible. I can go an hour into the past or and hour into the future. Just cross a time border and wham! Time goes back an hour or so. Learned that in geo today!
Guest DRL
To Mr. Krystal: Your awesomeness never ceases to amaze me.About the topic: I choose no-one, because...In the Past...I do not know what would I do there, but many would not see my actions as... 'Correct'. Mainly because I *would* mess with politics and history.A> If I could go to the past I will kick out Boris Yelstin of the Soviet Union, so the Union would be alive today.B> Maybe I could go back earlier and stop Stalin before he can rise to power; that way I would save at least the 40 million lives that were killed under his orders.C> Phearps, I could go back to the 1970 ~ 1980 and stop the Junta Militar from starting that stupid war.In the future...It would be fun to see what they have invented. But again, I will find a way to mess with inventions, their desings, ect. So when I go back to the present, the "best" thing that could happen would be myself getting rich... But believe me, it *could* be worse! Also, as far as I got into the subject, if time is a... 'constant', it means that it can not be changed. Everything we know is 'inside' it, therefore, it is imposible to get out of it without changing it, but we know we can not change a constant, can we? In a computer it would (or more precisely, it could) crash the program...|EDIT|: But believe me, if you give me a time machine, I automatically become dangerous for the current world order... ThePointingMan
I would go to the past to take a large portion of Canada as my own, and then to the future!
Mr. Krystal
All we need is a gravitational field generator strong enough to bend the space-time dimension. All matter in the universe bends space-time. It's called gravity. You're talking about the ability to bend space-time so much that it folds over. Even a black hole isn't quite that strong, so I doubt any human would survive being anywhere near such a device, let alone use it.

Star Fox Runner
Has anyone read the H.G. Wells book "The Time Machine"? Or seen either of the movies? It's a good read or movie if your into time travel stories. I would recommend watching the older movie, its a bit more corny (1960s), but it's the superior version. ThePointingMan
I kinda think, "if we will ever invent time travel, wouldn't we know by now." I mean surely at some point in time some loudmouth will get a hold of it, but then I also think, So wait, what if they just go like... In programming, there's this stuff, and it makes a copy,(woopy, lots of stuff makes a copy, but not the way this thing i'm thinking of does.) what if it's like the same deal, someone goes back in time, but not just back in time, into kind of like a copy of the time, but then the time from which we came, is now linked to that time kinda sorta... ThePointingMan
Sure, why not? Sounds about right, but then again throw time in it and I'd say anything sounds about right for what I'm saying. I'm sure I'll goggle it , eventually.
