Fana McCloud Posted April 29, 2012 Share Posted April 29, 2012 Yeah, I was around 7 at the time and only really comprehended that the Rodney King verdict made a bunch of people really pissed - I didn't really learn that there was rioting till much later in my life. I lived in Eagle Rock at the time which is on the fringes of LA and a fairly "good" neighborhood, without a lot of blacks, so we didn't really get any rioting that far out. Synapsepilot Posted April 29, 2012 Share Posted April 29, 2012 I flew an airplane (Cessna 172) for the first time yesterday, I must say, the feeling of piloting a small airplane is quite incredible. It was whats called a "discovery flight" where after brief instruction you go up with an instructor for 45 minutes. It is the flight school's sick twisted method of getting people bitten by the aviaton bug, side effects including an immense desire to learn to fly. Vy'drach Posted May 1, 2012 Share Posted May 1, 2012 Got my Mosin rifle today, took it apart, cleaned as much of the cosmoline off of it as I could. I didn't know you could put that much cosmoline on a firearm. Anyway, the gun was in fine condition with a fine stock, but when the guy put the bayonet in the box it apparently seriously nicked the stock in two places. No bueno. Vy'drach Posted May 15, 2012 Share Posted May 15, 2012 My dad and I spent the greater part of today steam cleaning my Mosin Nagant rifle to really melt that cosmoline out and get it clean. Only place that would really have any cosmoline is what soaked into the stock, which is fine. The metal, however, is cosmoline free, and it is now soaking in a healthy coat of gun oil, since steam cleaning metal will get any and all lubrication out of it. I also ordered a slip on recoil pad for it, since they are notorious for having a "healthy kick," so that can help with extended shooting. But, of course, the first magazine will be fired pad free.
