upon looking up  the japan 4th ending for command because I heard it was diffren i came across

In this game, Takaya Imamura gave Fox a cartoonish appearance, compared to the more realistic look of Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox: Assault. According to Imamura, realistic fur was unpopular with players.

Here's the actual quote:

"Imamura: We noted there was a lot of feedback after Adventure and Assault both, with people complaining about the over hairiness of Fox. Realistic fur is not a big hit."

Funny, because Cuthbert camped-out at Arwing Landing while working on SFC to get fan opinions, which were apparently ignored in the final product (I somehow missed this, so this is second-hand info). Also, I think he misunderstood what people were saying. I don't think it was "fur is bad," but rather the way fur was presented that what was the problem. Fox looked like he was covered in orange grass, not fur. The way the fur in SFAs looked was better, though I think it may be baked into the textures. Another example of terrible-looking fur I've seen is the "furry tail" for the Krystal poser figure. The thing looks like a damn caterpillar, not a fox tail. I think the reasoning for fur looking so crappy is that rendering fur as individual hairs is expensive, so these systems render fewer hairs, which instead of looking like a smooth coat of fur, they end up looking like a damn Chia-Pet.

From the same interview the Imamura quote came from:

"Cuthbert:  I think Star Fox has always evolved. There's always a chance to change. Nothing's ever set in stone in the Star Fox universe. Except Storyline. "

lolwut?

"Well we always talked about it. We were working on a puzzle game called Digi Drive, from another department within Nintendo®. And they said, "Well why don't you mock up the demo? We'll give you the DS kit." We spent three months putting a lot of love into a copy of the original Star Fox, and we had one stage very similar to the original Star Fox running on the DS. We showed that to Imamura-san and he said "We'll redesign it to work with the DS better and maybe take some ideas from Star Fox 2 and make a fully fledged Star Fox.""

Hey, I like that idea! Why the hell did they change it? I guess we can blame Imamura for that.

"  The current game, with all the buttons being fire, work for right handed or left handed people no problem. And with games like Metroid, having to use the L buttons and R button, a lot of people's hands began to hurt since they had to grip the DS so tightly. I didn't want people to get into that kind of situation, where they had to grip their DS hard to do the maneuvers.

"

That's a load of crap. Holding the DS one handed pushing buttons while simultaneously "drawing" with the other got really painful for me after a while. They should have used the control scheme from the SNES games.

So was his fur in SF Assault. I personally see the realistic fur being unpopular with gamers idea as just a load of rubbish. If that were true, then those 2 games and others with realistic looking fur (like Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) would not have done as well as they are doing now.

And another thing. I have seen people on the internet say that they despised how the characters look in Command. I too am of the opinion that the cartoony appearance given to the characters trashed their looks.

Just my input...

I still like the fur, but I really don't care if they add or remove it.

Quite frankly, I liked Command's cartoon appearance more compared to the furry one.

Facepalm

Also, why does Cuthbert get credit for a bunch of things? He only worked technically on all the games he's been involved in.

I didn't have a problem with the command controls, but I think the original SF controls would have been better, and about the realistic fur, that's one of the things I liked about Adventures, Krystal in particular. Most people that are interested in furries look at them the way most are drawn or animated, it doesn't really look like fur, certain key areas have ruffs in them to show that it's fur, but everywhere else it just looks more like different coloured skin, Adventures changed that. It helped show what actual fur would look like, and Krystal looked good AFTER that.

Couldn't help remind me of the boss in this comic strip.

*WARNING* This image contains some blood. Also, if you decide to actually read the whole comic, know that it can be offensive in just about every shape way and form, including, but not limited to, nudity, violence, foul language, and very suggestive things. (However, this part of the strip just contains blood.)

Please people, it's getting a bit old that every thread that in a single line mentions Command turn into a Command bashing thread. We've gotten the message now.
