Dumbest game plots

@para astaroth, did you mean Cliche? it definately sound's a bit like a tired plot to have... avatar did it too, which really kind of took away the enjoyment for me... honestly avatar, in NO WAY is that Colonel/captain/general dude a human being, hes so over the top about killing everything is WAY too inhuman.. it really stereotypes the armed forces.. annoyed the shit out of me, but he had a likeable charm, kind of like Steven Sagal.. horrible filmography but dammit hes so over the top!

Colonel Quaritcth (Spell check?) became one of my favorite characters in that movie. He was cliche, but so badass, and I respect people that just doesn't sit down twidling their thumbs while action is required, even if he was on the "wrong" team.

It was the guy in charge for the whole operation I seriously disliked. How did such a stupid coward who seemed to be only good at playing golf become the manager of such a big operation?

dumbest game plot: PONG, it dosen't even has a plot! (just joking with you guys)

Pong is about an interstella war that has gone on for conturies, and now it's down to one game of tennis to end the war once and for all. That's why the crowd is silent.

@sabre, yeah everyone is sweating balls and shitting bricks XD

LOL MINESWEEPER!! college humor is great  :P

@asper, again he has a charm, but it seems like he has no motivation other than the fact that hes part of this opressive military, i dont care, have one of the Navis' accidently kill his family or something, GIVE HIM A REASON FOR HIS HATE!!! it makes the character more like a human and less like a plot device XD

I'll guess he had crossed blades with the Na'vi plenty of times while on Pandora, and he'd probably get an awfully large bonus if he could secure the planet for good. That's probably a good enough reason for someone who's entire career has been centered around fighting for the highest bidder. All the soldiers there were mercenaries you know, they weren't fighting for anything else but the money they would get if they survived to return to earth.

Okay, end of off-topicness from me.

@asper, its not off topic, the topic is bad game AND movie plots, its not in the subject line, but Sabre said so in his OP.

not saying that avatar was nessesarily a BAD movie... it just wasnt as good as it was hyped to be if you happen to be immune to hypnosis like me  :D

it was an experience for me, it was more about the art and the technology more than the overused plot.. it was like taking a vacation to another world! which is what any good story should do, unless they happen to be nonfiction or based in modern times. either way, i guess if you want to end it, i can talk about FF12

not that i dislike the plot, but it actually kind of escaped me, as i made my way to the end of the game i was like.. wait. what the point of this again? oh yeah i gotta stop this one dude from ruling dalmasca... wait, hes really not that bad as far as dictators go.. i mean sure the judges can be a bit oppressive at times, but really do you think ashe can do any better??

and who in the hell is that thing at the end that turns vayne into an awesome winged boss thingy?

it kinda went "whoosh" right over my head.. but still i did enjoy myself, the art and style put into the game was simply breathtaking! every creature, place, summon, and even the characters were interesting.. with the exception of Vaan.. but then again, who doesnt dislike Vaan... personally my favorite is a tie between Basch and Gabranth.. since their brothers it kind of doesnt matter... Balthier is also a wonderful character! all in all, pretty damn good for a ps2 game!

i remember in a mission Niko says"i am just a hired gun"

That is like Solid Snake saying he is not a hero, its a form of self perception, and while Niko did kill people for money, it wasn't because of, "Hey, I'm good at killing people and there are people that will pay me to do it," It was more him needing good money fast to help improve his and his cousin's life, he's a grey character, neither good or bad, just doing what he needs to survive, if he didn't need that money, I highly doubt he'd do what he did. *POTENTIAL SPOILER* And he also had a personal vendetta against a certain person, and he needed the criminal underground info to find out who it really was and get access to him.

Now on the matter of stupid video game plots, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, if you take just bare and essential facts from it, there is a very good story that melds well with the rest of the Metal Gear story, but then you find things like Lt. Col. Raidenovich that looks just like Raiden (Big surprise) from Metal Gear Solid 2, and he's the lover of one boss and main antagonist of the game, a man who can somehow channel electricity through his body and use it to fire bullets he holds between his fingers, even though a bullet that is fired without being directed down a barrel with the force of the powder directed down the barrel too is all but harmless, and they are both guys, by the way. When you find things like that, you get a really...odd, humourous, but odd none the less, game.

Final Fantasy XII. Had no idea what on earth was going on.

One of the characters was blamed for killing the prince, when he was actually framed by his evil twin. And it just snowballs from there.

it was still fun though right? i love how it strays from the tired old turn-based we've seen a million times. the monsters were interesting, grabbing marks, the specials were EPIC! pretty much both the esperers (summons) were the best ive ever seen out of final fantasy as far as art style goes! then there were the limits/specials/whatever, basch's were awesome! so i basically love it purely for the style that it presents and the concepts put into it, and not so much the story.. and with a game that beutiful you cant go wrong XD

Blackside:  Area 51.

UGH!  Random, weak aliens from Area 51?  Ending that just makes you go, "Huh??!!" and questionable mission?

I made a video of that. I think you've seen it, if not.

He's dead, no he's alive, but now he's evil? Now he's dead again, Random polatics, end credits.

I'm playing lost planet. That story is really dumb. He has a magic arm that gives him super healing powers, but he has to keep it fueled with alien blood or it kills him.

Yes, I have seen it AND posted a comment on it, being a recent owner of Blacksite I am.  Personally, I liked the original Blacksite for the original Xbox.

The only thing that made me keep playing was the hord of VS's, the GODZILLA-like bosses, and the explosions

The worst ones I ever heard of were:

-Shadow the Hedgehog (Went too far even for a Sonic game).

-Most current Mario games besides Mario Galaxy and the Paper Mario trilogy (We've seen Peach kidnapped one too many times, right?).

-Castlevania II (Collecting Dracula's scattered pieces?).

-Wayne's World on Super NES (Garth sucked into a video game, that wasn't even in the movie).

-Home Improvement on Super NES (Tim Allen trying to retrieve his tools from rogue movie props).

@pointingman, those are just shitty in general. anything shackled to a movie plot usually tends to be bad :(

Yeah, and from what I know Batman Returns on the Super NES was really good (Went so far as to imitate the score from the movie by Danny Elfman :D).

well not really ALL of em, a more recent example was wolverine for the x-box 360, it has its ups and downs, but its actually A LOT better than the movie its based on! some say the same with Goldeneye 007, but i havent seen the movie so i cant judge...

and then there are games like E.T... god awful killings of the movie it was based on...

i personally had an experience with EA games.. one of my relatives got me Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers for the Gamecube, it had its challenges and overall was a decent game... until about a year or so later, a cousin of mine had Cronicles of Narnia, made by EA as well, i decided to pick it up and play, mind you it was on the playstation 2.

the game was a shameful clone.. EXACT CLONE, just different characters, different bosses, and a different plot. despite the names for the combo's, they were clones as well. i relaized that EA just copy pasted the game to make more money.. i felt so ashamed for enjoying the game.. like i had been swindled.. :(

coming from a middle class family, a game library is hard to come by, i dont need shitty clones clogging my arteries and wasting my time. and thats why i hate movie games.. i can understand that for some, they are trying. iron man was one, didnt buy it, again played it 2nd hand style. it was trying to be too pretty and lacked fun..

then finally in the most recent experience, was Terminator Salvation for the 360.... F**K....THIS....GAME...

again 2nd hand, i was playing the coop feature to help a friend get some achievements, since the games achievement list can all be unlocked by beating it on hard mode. so it seemed like "easy 1000 gamerscore right?" wrong...

the game was broken, like beyond brawl broken.. it was essentially a gears of war clone, same slow ass mic walk and everything.... one section of the level was just walking through a destroyed building with no enemy encounters.. not like a simple sprint couldve done it, it was a minute or so of ABSOLUTELY NO GAMEPLAY... then a gears walk again, then a cutscene... WAT??? and dont even get me started about the sensitivity on the train level.. theres a moment where your riding on the end of a subway train blasting cyber bikes with rocket launchers... sounds fun right.. well the game shits on your face and says HAHA DUMBASS!! im kind of used to halo so i predict where the bike is going to be and shoot the ground beneath it, causing the surrounding explosion to kill the bike, nope... gotta hit the damn thing right in the face.. and the things move around tight corridors with sensitive joystick movement.. i tried changing the sensitivity, but your either too slow to hit or too fast to be accurate! the things move all over the place while the train makes so many turns!

in the games defense i was playing on hard mode, but once one of the bike gets within range, its over.. it reaches a dead zone where you cant hit it, and it kills you.. you just lose.. no way to stop it, its over right there... so many times i had to restart a certain level, i actually remembered the timeline, enemy spawns and everything.. and even then it still felt like it wasnt enough.. and if it wasnt bad enough, the other player doesnt get anything.. no achievements for player 2!

apparently, the game didnt even work retail for the PC version! they had to release a patch to fix a game that just released! THATS BAD...

I think the only exceptions to the "All movie tie in games are shitty" rule are Starwars games not based on the main plot, and Goldeneye 007, which I've played, and think is awesome.
