Food for thought. Apple and Nintendo

I'm speaking in vague generalities here, but what would you guys think if Nintendo were to partner with Apple on any kind of project? Whether it would be software, or even new hardware, maybe like something involving a new console that works with Mac somehow?

Just brainstorm, what kind of cool projects do you think would happen if such a partnership would occur?

Portable Star Fox for Ipod :D

I would probably use a Mac if Nintendo partnered with Apple

I always had this thought, and I think its a great idea. They both have the same ideas for looks (The apple tv and wii look alike lol) and Nintendo could benefit from the advenced graphics and technology Apple has. Apple get great ass games. Who wouldn't want to see Star Fox with Kick-Ass graphics? But the bad part is the name.

I would call the next Nintendo system the "Nintendo 3"

Either way, I'm buying a MacBook Laptop (for work only)...I might get an Apple desktop as well, but I dunno...I'm definitely getting A desktop for home/personal use...might just be a plain PC desktop, and I'll buy Kaspersky anti-virus and internet security/firewall defense for it.

that would be sweet if that happened, tho...

Nintendo releases the Wii in glossy white, and now everyone thinks they're a good match for Apple.

They aren't.

Apple brings nothing to Nintendo.

Touch screens? Nintendo already has them.

Motion sensors? Nintendo already has them.

App store? Nintendo already has one.

Music Store? Minor feature, not important.

Closed-source, tightly controlled OS that can't multitask (IPhone OS)? Nintendo already has that, too.

Overpriced hardware? Nintendo can do without that.

Computer interactivity is stupid. Modern consoles can do everything they need by themselves.

Apple get great ass games.

:lolhyst:

Since when?

The vast majority of good computer games are Windows-only, and anything in the iPhone App Store will likely be ported to Android soon, as Apple seems to have taken a liking to banning entire classes of apps one at a time. (First, it was VOIP, then adult apps, now it is WiFi finders, what's next?)

Okay DZ, that was a typo. I meant that Nintendo will benefit with way more advanced tecnology than they have now, and Apple WILL get some great games. It's a win-win situation.

Apple won't bring any new technology to Nintendo that they can't get on their own. Yes, Apple claims the prize for their products, but when you look under the hood, you find that the innovations Apple "created" came from somewhere else. The MacBook Air, for instance, would not have been possible without Intel, as would pretty much all modern macs.

I think IBM is being a pretty good hardware partner for Nintendo right now. A new version of the POWER architecture was released recently. This architecture is the same one Nintendo has used for the past two generations (GCN/Wii). Also, if Nintendo wanted to, they could strengthen their relationship with AMD, who has provided GPUs for the GCN and Wii, and get some powerful x86-based CPUs.

There are also rumors of Nintendo being in talks with nVidia about chipsets for the DS successor.

Nintendo doesn't need Apple for hardware. Why? Apple goes to these same companies for theirs! They'd just be a middleman. Middlemen only serve to add to production costs.

Fine, you win. But remember the Wii is just a Gamecube with funny controls.

No, it isn't The Wii is substantially more powerful than the Gamecube. Yes, it isn't by the same amount as the 360 and PS3 over their predecessors, and yes, the Wii uses the same CPU architecture (thus it can run cube games natively), but Nintendo did that by choice, not because they didn't know how. If Nintendo wanted to choose a more powerful platform, they could have. But they didn't. They wanted to keep the system affordable as well as be able to sell it at a profit. Both Sony and Microsoft took Loss Leaders on their consoles at launch because it cost more to make the hardware than they were selling it for (profit came from software sales).

Loss leading is a risk. If the RRoD problem were worse, it likely could have killed the 360. If you sell at a profit, you can absorb defective returns better.

Business wise, it was a smart move for Nintendo. Not sure if they still are, but a couple of years ago, Nintendo was raking in more money than Honda was.

Saying that a Wii is a Gamecube with a funny input device is like saying that a modern PC is the same as an old IBM 5150 but with a funny input device (mouse). The 5150 was the first x86 PC, but don't expect modern x86 software to run on it.

Arent the iPad and DSIXL competing? Besides, I don't like the smooth, glossy Apple designs. I miss my clunky, matte N64s and SuperNESes.

No, they aren't. The iPad isn't a gaming device. Yes, there are some games for it, but most are written for the iPhone and aren't much better than your average cell phone game.

Plus, the iPad will likely be a failure, as all they've done is taken the tablet PC and made it even less useful by no multitasking and only being able to install Apple approved software. On top of that, what does it do that the iPhone can't? Be a decent E-book reader? Nope. The thing has a glossy screen, which makes reading things on it a PITA.

Yea true, but in my personal opinion, they did it because they wanted to produce more games. With a less powerful console, they don't need to work as much to make games, thus making more games. BUT lets look at twilight princess. The Gamecube and Wii versions are almost identical SO that means Windwaker could of had good visuals BUT they decided to stick to the "Toon" design instead. Yea I know it was a 2003 game, but they were working on Star Fox Adventures right? I wouldn't mind my Windwaker to have graphics like those.

The Gamecube was powerful enough to produce good quality graphics BUT Nintendo decided to deem the Gamecube "not powerful enough". They're lazy-asses :D.

The only real downgrade of visuals in the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess was the water and the "bloom" effect.

@DZ, i think you and me are going to be great friends on this forum :D we have so much in common!

if apple partnered with nintendo, things would only get worse... talk about the worst console in history..

Introducing the next Nintendo handheld!

05282454000

Nintendo exclusives will be a thing of the past! all games will be either movie games or plastic shells of classic game franchises!

NOW SPORTING THE NINTENDO WIII (notice 3 "I"s)

conny_q3_sports_console.jpg

now, instead of it being just an option, all games must come with their own unique dumbass plastic pheripherals!!

NINTENDO RETURNS TO CARTRIDGE FORMAT!! NOW WITH TRIPLE SECURITY!! ALLOWING FOR ABSOLUTELY NO HACKABILITY!!

retro compatability is a thing of the past! THE GRAPHICS WILL BE LIKE STARING RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW!! it will look like your actually standing outside your own backyard playing tennis!!

who in the hell needs multiprossesing when you got APPS!!! this one feeds my dog and wipes my ass!!! ill never have to use a single ounce of energy to do anything!

________

alright enough of my apple bashing (if you look closely, there is some nintendo bashing in there somewhere..), but yes Nintendo would die...

then again, nintendo really needs some kind of partner company.. definately not apple, but somebody.

microsoft falls back on the fact that it makes computer software..

Sony makes all kinds of home electronics

nintendo used to sell poker cards....

and thats why they depend on so much third party bullshit. also why they made such a decision.. however the DSi LL has got to be the most money wasting piece of shit i have ever seen.. so does the Ipad... well they seem to have a similar trend, maybe they are perfect for eachother?

Jim comes to mind when I am to read the title...

Anyways, I despise apple, I thought, oh apple is o.k. but I prefer P.C. until my dad bought one, I just... I'm a very unhappy boy now, cause I think of the amazing P.C I could have for the same price... I actually have a reference to how great a P.C I could have because a friend of mine spent the same amount of money one would spend on an apple, on a P.C, I would quite literally force myself to cry in front of a large audience, if doing so would give me his computer... So I don't like the thought of apple + anything unless it goes in mah mouth (one of those EVERY DAY my friend.)

I do like the Ipod though.

If apple teamed with Nintendo, ACK! I was just about to say something reasonably o.k but still not bringing the apple up to much, but then I thought of the D.S. It has full priced games, that are basically Ipod apps, and... sniff... it just breaks my heart to think about it... Imma stop now, I just... This topic makes me feel the same way talking about cartoons on T.V. around here makes me feel... Unhappy, sad whatever you want, input displeasure.

Well I couldn't just say oh I hate apple, and not give at least 1 benefit, although I gave the delicious benefit, so that's 2.

dont worry buddy, your in good company...

sorry to tell you.. but when your apple becomes dated, your just gonna have to take it into the backyard and put the darn thing out of its misery... unlike a pc, which you can simply give it a ram upgrade or swap some parts out of...

apple computers are proprietary.. which is a big word meaning EXTREMELY picky about what goes in it..

it really makes me sad to think of the possibilities your dad couldve done with the grand or so that he spent on that apple computer.. it couldve been so much more  :(

*sniff* I... I Thank you.

Anyways, I'm not so good at putting things down, I'm keeping my Ipod till the very last drop of energy it can bestow upon me. It's just so messed up already, only one speaker works, unless I push the headphones in the jack a special way.
