Saurian Work

Mr. Krystal

Recommended Posts

Over time, I will eventually put up a phonetic Saurian translation. I worked a bit on it tonight. I wanted to show off some new things I found. There are several errors in the subtitles. I managed to figure out most of the ones I hadn't figured out here. These corrections come from trial and error listening to the Saurian pronunciations in the game and then working out better matching wording.

Krystal:

It said something about a mountain hidden in a storm.

Ak juat jemokxadw ureik u meidkuad xattod ad u jkehm.

No... I have all the cutscenes with Saurian in them recorded. I also have all the voice clips as audio files.

Nice touch, Mr. K.  It's hard to translate that Saurian Language...I only know enough Saurian to ask where the bathroom is. :P

(Just kidding, heck, there aren't any bathrooms on Sauria.  Knowing how to ask where the bathroom is, in Saurian would be futile.)

That's what this is for. I'm about half-way through converting all Saurian phrases into their phonetic sounds.

Once that's done, I'll do some comparative analysis and decipher the patterns and variations in the spoken form.

I'll take the patterns and create rules that will govern the pronunciation operation.

I'm also going to rewrite the translator to handle this new functionality and other functionality.

So, no real timetable on when it will be done.

will we still have the original text only translator?

Oooo that's going to be really cool when it is done. How many programms does (or will)

the spoken translater run off of. God I don't like how that was written. In other words how many programms will it take to create? Is this made with your original translater? Or is this a revised edition?

It will keep all the functionality it has now. I'm just adding features.

It will be one program made of many functions in Javascript.

I bet it's a complex deal right? O and one more thing is the spoken translater going to use alesia glidewell's voice? That woul be really cool!

You can't do audio work with Javascript. It will create a word-based phonetic spelling, such as this:

English

I'm only here because of a distress call.

Saurian

A'm edc0 xoho rosuijo ev u tajkhojj succ.

Phonetic Saurian

'a'm' 'e'd'k'O' 'k'oo'd'z'O'h'O' 'r'O's'v'A'zjuh'O' 'E'v' 'oo' 't'ah'zjuh'k'ah'f' 'z'oo'k'

Yes, I COULD do a program to do basic audio pronunciation, but it wouldn't be online.

It's not even a real language when you think about it. More akin to a code. Just english with all the consonants and vowels switched around. :/

Proper nouns aren't translated, silly, like MANY languages.

And yes, Saurian is a cypher, not a language.

Ahh, cool, thanks for that.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist posting that.
