Mature Subjects Area and how to get access to it.

Well, this makes sense.

But surely not all gay content will be limited to the mature board?  There are gay teenaged fans.  I was one once.  So was Foxbert who ran the first Star Fox community I ever found, and a variety of other fans.  And I like to discuss some of the Japanese gay family films I've seen over the years. :3 Gay itself is not inherently an adult-oriented topic, any more than teenaged dating.  (And teenagers who wait until they're 18 to have anything resembling a gay life are often more socially regressed than their straight social butterfly friends who talk about the opposite sex when they're young.)

This can't just be because Americans can often (variably) be extremist reactionary bigots who know no civility or peaceful coexistence. :( Can't we move on as a civilized egalitarian disestablished society? My world is a postheteronormative one where gay and straight issues are equal in every way. :friends:

Is this really necessary? Seems to me like everyone agreed that the threads regarding homosexuality weren't a big deal.

It's beginning to be redundant, and all I see is "GOOD JOB, I AGREE, KEEP THE GOOD WORK, WOOHOO" which really, doesn't help in this serious topic. Most of the population here agrees that nothing drastic should be made, and we are going to compromise for DZ's AND Mr Krystal's sake.

Well, whatever. Your call.

I will not be applying. Not really looking for mature discussions on a Star Fox forum (no offense to anyone! <.<). Also, I act like a 7 year old, so they probably wouldn't let me in anyway. =P

Alright, I vote we stop quoting Matt.  Agreed?

^Seconded. No need to backseat moderate, pplz.

Meh.. It's your choice. That's the whole reason the board is optional.

It's looking more and more like it's indeed not as much of a big deal as it seemed to have been made to be. :3 But apparently a wee bit of a staff mutiny is what's been giving DZComposer the biggest headaches lately.

I never encountered difficulties like this when running MouthOff and Papetoon.  Today I talked to my dad about it (he's 66 years old and respects LGBT people), and he said that American culture is a lot more heavily polarized over issues like this in a way that didn't seem to come up much in the 1990s.  He said that people today are more starkly divided in the opposite directions - either more gay-friendly, or even more anti-gay.  So one more often encounters open hate in broad daylight that was a lot more muted or unspoken before - it's a minority hate, for certain, but its greater willingness to create an ugly public spectacle is something that causes more headaches.

On the other hand, I suppose it helped back then that the forum's admin (me) was openly gay, its users were demographically diverse (both male and female, both straight and gay, and from many different countries), and controversies like this were practically nonexistent. :3 It's almost like there was less prejudice back then than there is today.  My dad said that, in the United States, more parents today are trying harder to teach their children to hate people who are not like themselves.

Anyway, enough of this particular ramble.  I'll discuss social topics, but I don't want to get into politics. :3

Oh, no insult to Americans. :3 Just those Americans who regularly abuse LGBT people. XD One seems to encounter more of this in the United States than they'd expect to encounter in places like Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Spain or Sweden. X3 LGBT people can pay attention to these things.  For instance, to know not to travel to countries that are statistically more dangerous to LGBT people, such as Cyprus, Iran, Jamaica, Lithuania, Nigeria or Uganda.  The United States overall is statistically more in the middle, with the population just about equally split between acceptance of and hostility towards LGBT people.

"Transgendered" is a more neutral term.  It basically means someone born male who identifies as female, or someone born female who identifies as male.  Also called "drag queens", "drag kings", "transmen", "transwomen", and a variety of other terms.  There are very traditional populations of transgendered people in South and Southeast Asia, such as the hijras of the Indian subcontinent (where they are considered a third gender) and the kathoeys of Thailand.  In Albania, there used to be a system by which sworn virgin women who could dress and be identified as men and accepted as such by the community, but this has mostly fallen out of practice.

"Transsexual" is increasingly considered insensitive, "transvestite" is already insensitive, and "tranny" is a slur.  Avoid these terms.

That's when a persons sexual identity differs from that of their biological gender. They feel like they're trapped in a a body of different gender than who they really are, and sometimes resort to sex change operations to come closer to the gender they feel most comfortable with.

I know, I know.

I am not 18 yet, but I would

like to know...

This 'mature area' treats other

subjects like politics/religion/ect.,

or is it just a 'serious area' for

SF discussion?

I suppose that no answer means...

'NO'.

I understood it like it would be mostly for subjects such as politics/religion/ect. That might also include SF discussions in some way.

For example, I've long wanted to discuss with people if they believe the inhabitants of Lylat have a religion(s), and if that's the case, what it would be like. But untill now, I haven't been able to discuss something like this outside of PM, but I will be able to now in the MSA(Mature Subjects Area).

Oh, O-Kay then.

My thing would more into the political

range, maybe that can include the political

organization of Lylat, but I mean politics,

for example, like Socialism, Neo-Liberalism..

Ect. ect.

  • 7 months later...

Just reminding you all, to get to the Mature subforum, you must be over 18, and you have to send a pm to an admin.

To get to the pub, you can do it by yourself if you wonder around your profile settings.

Turning 18 isn't much. It's all like "woo I'm an adult!" and then you feel the same.
