But is this an IP ban we're talking about or just an account ban?

Account ban.  An IP only ban would be pretty meaningless since it's so easy to get around.  Furthermore, perma bans usually involve everything (email, ip address, and account name) being restricted

I figured an account ban would actually be easier to bypass, seeing as you only had to make a new account.

But if it takes all of those things into account--the ip address, the e-mail address, etc.--never mind lol

It depends on how the registration process is set up.  If the admins have to verify new accounts, the users can activate their own account once it's created, etc

When a ban is created on a member there are two types (full or partial) followed by four ways to ban based on triggers:  IP, host name, email address, or user name (account name). You can also see what IP addresses the user used to post messages and ban those as well if you wish but that's not really necessary if you select all the triggers. A ban is completely ineffective unless at least one of these triggers is selected.

There are other options that can be set when creating a ban on a user but that's the main gist of it. :)

The original one week ban was a full ban on all accounts. Steve did it, so I saw. DZ did the permaban, so I don't know how he set the parameters, but I assume they're the same.

The only difference with a perma ban is that the expiration option would be set to "Never" as opposed to "Ban will expire after: # of days"

GREAT!

(I feel 4% guilty... it was me who first showed the link to his threats, but I think it was worth it)

How come I can still see Matt's profile then??? It didnt even tell me that the account was banned, because I recall another search I did a while back and some user from a few years ago was listed under "banned"

I have tried to talk to him in the past,

but he is... Uh, 'a little' too stubborn.

He insists on his ideas being the 'only

ones that are correct' and like that.

I think it is inmaturity having recently

'begun' to leave that stage myself (I was

a much lighter version of like that in RL),

I can tell he needs time... Of course, rules

are rules. If you are TOO MUCH of a dummy,

then you a ban (or tempban).

You can still see his profile in some cases because his account isn't deleted.  If you click his name when reading one of his posts you can view his profile.  However if you try and view his profile under the member list or search for it you won't notice it.

As far as the "banned" part goes, I'm sure that it's a separate user group where all members who are based get thrown into that and you can search for them accordingly.  Depends on what version of SMF you're running and since you said that was a few years ago it wouldn't surprise me if it was set up differently back then

Just cut it off, and continue the topic, there's no need to talk about Matt anymore, hopefully , he learned his lesson and matured about it, wherever he goes, I hope he gets a prosper and good life.

Now, back on topic peeps.

I would miss out everyone, there

was one troll (not Matt)... But to me

it looks like as if he changed his/her

views a little, so while I would not miss

him/her, I would not mind the user

being here.

|EDIT|: Okay, obvious troll is obvious.

The Z-troll I would not miss

            at all if he/she left.

Though I disapprove of what Matt did on dA, I wasn't willing to pass judgment on him merely for being a clumsy personality.

Wow, lot of activety in this topic over the night.

As it was on my DA page he came around and, well, made a fool of himself to be honest, I guess I'll give my imput as well.

I'm not, in any way, angry at Matt. I do however feel sorry for him, and hope he learns from his ban, such that in the next community he becomes a part of, whether it is on the internet or in real life, he will fit better in than he did here.
