Dermot
My dad is AB while my mom is O type... (reverse, huh?)You're probably A or B. I'm very sure.No probably about it. It's a certainty. Either A or B. O or AB are impossible if your parents are O and AB. Also, if both your parents are O, you are certain to be O. And if both of your parents are AB, you are certain to be AB.Me, I'm O+. My dad is A+. My mom is O+ (I just asked).

Dermot
Yay, 333rd post! Here are the ABO inheritance statistics, depending on who your two parents are (gender is irrelevant here, so O+AB is the same as AB+O, etc.):O+O = 100% OO+A = 50% O, 50% AO+B = 50% O, 50% BO+AB = 50% A, 50% BA+A = 100% AA+B = 25% O, 25% A, 25% B, 25% ABA+AB = 50% A, 50% ABB+B = 100% BB+AB = 50% B, 50% ABAB+AB = 100% ABFor Rh factor:negative+negative = 100% negativenegative+positive = 50% negative, 50% positivepositive+positive = 100% positiveSo all of my siblings are either O+ or A+. They can't be anything else.

Dermot
Blimy, howd you get those so fast?Simple hereditary genetics. You see, the eight normal blood types are controlled by three binary genes. For each of the genes, the gene you get is either from the mother or the father (which is random). One gene is A or not A.Another gene is B or not B.The third gene is Rh factor (positive or negative). If you get A and B, you are AB.If you get A and not B, you are A.If you get B and not A, you are B.If you get not A and not B, you are O. I'll have results tomorrow, they might mention what blood type I am.You didn't do this just because I brought it up, did you? I mean, it's a good thing to do anyway (both for donation and for knowing how to treat you during an emergency trauma).Personally, though I'm a registered organ and tissue donor, I can't donate any of it right now - it's full of my prescription medication.
