Sabre
Remember Screw Attack? It was a games entertainment site that kicked off the angry nerd and gamejew (who started off that fad for musical game reviews and rants). Unfortunatly, the site went bad and all the talent was fired. Turns out they formed a new site called game heroes which since merged with the nostalgia critic. While not as great as screw attack in it's prime, it's still pretty good. I watched a few vids while eating my tea and came across this one, which got me thinking.Top 5 games that need to retire, a list of games series that just need to stop making gameshttp://thatguywiththeglasses.com/bt/gameheroes/t5/19078-top-5-franchises-that-need-to-retireThe number 1 is a forgone conclusion. (It's sonic)The thing is one game not on their list I have recently had a couple of people tell me needs to stop. Call of Duty. Personally I could go for MW3 and then be done, only getting the rest for the co-op modes, but activision do seem keen to sturate the market with CoD branded crap.Personally, my list would include Final Fantasy, Medal of Honour and all the crappy music games they keep bringing out. I have been saying for years that Final Fantasy really needs to change or stop, but FF fans claim each one is unique, but I don't see it.Why mention this? Turns out that Capcom is giving up it's western games devision that brought us Dark Void and Bionic Commando because they flopped. Likewise, the reason Lost Planet 2 and RE5 have been co-op focused is because someone at capcom claimed that japanese style games are in danger of dying due to stagnation and so is trying to bring in a western multiplayer style, which makes sence.http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/7093.htmlWhat's your take on all this? and what games do you think need to change or stop? Sabre
In the vid, it makes number 4, bit number 2 is the conduit. not really. But yes, Halo is 4 because they only want to play master chief and as such are not interested in prequels. To me, that's like hating starwars for not having darth vader, but it makes sence. The rest from the vidHomourable mentionsTomb RaiderMegamanPokemonDoomWolfenstien5 Guitar hero4 Halo3 Madden2 Mortal Kombat1 Sonic
CrypticQuery
I have to agree with their list, although Street Fighter should also be tied with Mortal Kombat, as they are both doing nothing innovative. They did make a good point with Sonic though, which is why I'm sticking to Sonic 2 on Genesis :D

Chrono Reaper
I heard a lot of contradictions in their arguments in their review of the top 5 games to retire. The thing about critiques, who cares? It's just their opinion, it has no weight over the result of the companies course of action. Besides I'm hoping Sonic 4 Revises the franchise once again by carrying off the series that made them famous in the first place.

If we believed that we'd be doing that ebert and speilberg thing. (some yanky critic and yanky director of indiana jones basicly said games are awful and films rule. Cue loads of people who claim that their opinion must change or all of games will die) Also moviebob, a film critic, accusses all gamers of being dumb because they dont watch enough films, and linkara, a funny internet comic reviewer claims we are all dumb because we dont read enough comics. Who'd have thought?
Hidi
I thought they were pretty reasonable. Although I don't have a lot of games from one franchise so I can't really judge. I think Animal Crossing could be there for the common reason of lack of new things.

Hey, we have a general rule that you can't post in most topics older than a couple of months or so (i.e. dredging) with a few exceptions. Try to not bump posts that are a couple of years old. :-)
