I'm not directing this at any one person in particular, but are you guys seriously asking Mike West, a guy who professionally does radio shows and voice acting, to just come on here and make a voice clip saying "HI I'M FOX MCCLOUD AND WELCOME TO STARFOX-ONLINE" to prove to a handful of UNBELIEVERS that he made a simple 'hello' post to fans of his work, like he does on all his other sites and emails every day?

Why don't you add the guy as a friend on facebook and have a nice short and sweet conversation with him about it yourself?

Oh wait, nevermind. I already did, and I found out that, yeah, this is really him, just by being polite and saying hi, then going about my business, without getting all 'skeptical' and asking the guy to whore himself out, for free, by jumping through hoops for people.

C'mon. Tact, people. Have some.

It takes like.....2 minutes to set one up.

Me too. I don't have a facebook. Never needed one.

Because you have no IRL social life :P  That being said you should get one to increase your experience in that area

This is me. I didn't mean to cause problems here.

You can email me at mike-west@comcast.net

I am a 52 year old father of two. My daughter Erika works at Barsuk Records. My son, Michael Lerner, (real last name) is a musician. He is on Merge Records. His project is Telekinesis. His music has been on a lot of TV shows, commercials and films. You can find him on Twitter, and me as well. I am sorry I caused such an uproar. You will see on my voice work profile pages that I list Nintendo as one of my many clients.

Funny thing is, I never play the games I voice. My kids used to play it and they didn't know it was me until I told them a few years after.

dune worry about it :P

welcome

Well Fred, I see where you are coming from.

I didn't know he was doing pre- and post-SF64. I don't think most people on here would know. So that whole second entry of his was over my head. I cannot disprove nor validate if that info is true. But wouldn't that be the quickest way to dissipate the skepticism? It would for me. And since you stated, "like he does on all his other sites and emails every day.", what's one more site to add on to the list?

Some folks here don't have a facebook account nor do they feel the need to have one. And before you wrote that suggestion the doubt was piling on before then. I know, I'm not gonna go to facebook.

I wouldn't think that's too much. It was only just a short line. He could have coughed and I would have been like "OMG! It's really him! I can tell!" Okay not really but I would have laughed my ass off. It's not like I was asking him to read the Constitution of the United States. I even stated it wasn't necessary but it would be a nice idea. Because anyone who's done their extensive research could have taken the time to compile this up. (I don't think anyone would unless it was around April 1st.) That's not asking too much.

Tact was preserved. I apologized for my display of sarcasm if he took offense to it. I don't think it was so bad that we were spitting venom at him with every post. We just told him that we weren't sure that he was who he says he was. Plain and simple.

In order to kill my doubt, I needed a voice clip. Now someone I knew from way back  when I was very active confirms that it is him indeed. The equivalence of the voice clip if you will. I know DZ well enough that his words hold merit. So I'll quash the skepticism on my part.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED :P

.....well, anyway.

On the subject of talking to Mike West here, he's turned me on to his son's band, Telekinesis, which is actually really good (as usually expected for something coming out of Seattle). They're on tour with Nada Surf right now, if you remember those POPULAR (get it?) guys.

Anyway, you guys should check them out.

Heh, I think you'll be surprised by how many people still play the game you voiced in - the series only has five or six games, and Star Fox 64 still sits at the top of that list for most fans.

I find this quite funny actually, as I did a tiny bit of research in March to see where the original Star Fox voice acting crew was today. It looked like about half of you guys went on to have successful careers afterwards, but I only saw a couple things listed for you on IMDB, so I wasn't sure. Glad to hear you have a regular radio job though! Sounds much nicer than jumping from contract to contract.

If I can, I would actually like to ask you about what your experience was like in terms of who you worked with for Star Fox 64, if you don't mind. The game had a lot of great character development that still holds strong to this day - something that is surprisingly rare in video games even now. I'm just wondering how closely you worked with the other voice actors, and the game designers too. Some video games don't even have the voice actors recording at the same time, whcih seems to make everything sound very awkward.

Many thanks again for taking the time to visit, it brings a lot of life into these forums for the fans! And if you would like to see the other half of the active fandom, I would recommend visiting the Arwing Landing forums as well. I can't guarantee it will be a very different experience, but we do have a couple of much older Star Fox fans - they might give a few different and interesting perspectives.

*Senses ridicule.*

But yes. We -are- skeptical. It's the Internet, and people lie all the time about any number of things, from gender to age to ethnicity to past experiences.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I'd say a link to a sound file saying, "Hello, StarFox Online! This is Mike West and you guys are a bunch of skeptics" in Fox's voice may suffice.

Granted, that -could- just be a really good impression if it's supplied, but honestly at this point I'm inclined to believe it given the Facebook statement.

If you're not who you say you are, this is one of the most elaborate trolling attempts I've ever seen. :D

I'd have to agree with Samantha on this. However whoever you are I agree with you and looking over all that info you probalby are who you say you are although people lie alot on the internet this to me is a rare occasion.

Whoever you are Welcome.

Ok  you nutty SF people. What do you want me to do to prove to you that I did voices for the game you are all so crazy about? Can I post a voice somewhere? Do you want a blood test? Mother's maiden name?

Up until a few years ago, I had the actual script for all the parts I played. Of course I could have simply copied each line while watching the game and made the paper look weathered. I just remember going to Redmond, sitting in an office with about 10 Nintendo people and reading for each part. I never thought it would turn into this all these years later. What else do you want to know. I have interviewed just about every one of my idols, from Paul McCartney to Buzz Aldrin to Bill Clinton to Stevie Wonder, who by the way blessed my musician child when my wife was 8 months pregnant. Once in a while, not knowing or speaking to someone you looked up to is more fun. It's part of the mystic. So. Am I really those people on that game? Email me and I will send you a voice sample or two.

Now, off to see Lost.

At this stage, he's convinced me pretty well that he really is Mike West, and I see no reason to further cause nuisance for him by urging him to "prove" himself.

In any case, I'm really glad that you decided to pop by us Sir. :D

You've met Paul MxCartney and Buzz Aldrin, AND you like Lost?

Holy shit, how are you NOT awesome?? Anyway, yep, your lines in paticular (you voiced Peppy as well as Fox, right?) have become pretty famous since 1997.

Don't pester him for stuff, guys. If he wants to post something, he can. If not, then let's respect his decision. Just because we're fans of a game he worked on doesn't mean we're entitled to his labor.
