Dermot
These are the story scenes from Star Fox Command, redone Game Boy Classic style. Here's what I did. I took the full-color full-resolution Star Fox Command story scenes, and shrank their width and height by half (from 256×192 down to 128×96). This is because Game Boy Classic video RAM couldn't hold more than 256 unique 8×8 background tiles, and this way only 192 would have to be used for each story scene. Then, I used some of my own software to convert each color to YUV colorspace, and strip out the U and V channels leaving only Y (luma), which left the images greyscale. Then the software examined each greyscale image for which shades of grey are used, and kept a record of them. Then, the top 25% brightest shades become white, the next 25% became light grey, then the next 25% became dark grey, and the 25% darkest shades became black. Finally, I replaced the four greys with realistic shades of beige and green resembling the old Game Boy Classic screen.I arranged all 41 images in a collage, and here it is.[Pruned to save disk space]
Vy'drach
Even on Gameboy, most of those screens can depress me.
Star Fox Runner
Nice Dermot! Though wouldn't the pixel count be different for the old Gameboy as well? That means the images wouldn't be as detailed. But you can only do so much. Pretty creative idea.

They're small enough for Game Boy Classic screen and video RAM.

Dermot
I'd play it.I remember when I was a teenager, I wanted a Game Boy Classic Star Fox game. I didn't care if it was 2D or not. XD

XDA sidescrolling shooter ala Defender or Gradius would have been pimping.
Asper Sarnoff
Great work Dermot! That's actually an improvement IMO.
rainfyre66
Great concept, Dermot! I could actually imagine that on my old school Game Boy screen. (That bug-eyed bull dog on the Kursed ending somehow manages to look even creepier...)
