Birthday leeway

Something interesting happened today. I even made a comic about it.

(Warning, contains the f bomb)

The gist is that, because it was this guys birthday and he wanted to play a game to celebrate, everyone was extra nice to him. Fair enough. The problem is that he didn't want anyone to kill him, and it seemed the game was rigged so only he could win.

So, what level of leeway do you give to someone on their birthday? I will play to the lesser of my ability, maybe use weapons I'm not good with, give you a bit of a chance ect. but I draw the line at throwing the game entirly.

So, assuming someone is the same age as you, and wants to play a game, how much leeway if any would you give?

If it's a game with a handicap system, I'll turn that on and we'll find an agreement on how much of an advantage I'll give him/her. It depends on if the other player is better than me or not, and by how big a margin.

When it comes playing the actual game, I won't say I'll hold back for his/hers sake, but neither will I play as competively as I do at my best. Again, depend on how good a player the one celebrating birthday is.

I agree. Throwing the game is too much. Restrict yourself all you want, but if victory is certain for them what's even the point?

Agreed.  If I'm clearly better than my opponent at something I'm not going to lie down and give it to him, it would be too obvious.

If it's your boss, let 'em win.
