Does anyone here believe in paranormal or the unkown stuff?

Ur an atheist then if u don't believe in jesus

That twists the argument towards

a new direction. In other words:

You are saying that what you said was

true because you believe in Jesus?

Do not get me wrong. If I have to believe

in something, better it be something that

can be seen with the eyes. Here you have

stated that you have experience a load

of paranormal stuff (stuff floating/flying

around), and also stating that because you

said "Jesus, Jesus.. ect, ect." it stopped.

I do not have to believe in Jesus to call

that a bummer. Furthermore, if you say

that I say what I am saying is because

I am an atheist, that is only partially true.

Sure, I call it a bummer because I am an

Atheist.

BUT, any follower of your same religion

can ask you for proof and still believe in

it, yet not you 'paranormal' experience(s).

In other words: Any other Christian

can say your story is either made-up

or outright false, just because you

have no proof.

Dude, The ppl at area 51 make UFO's. The way the UFO flies is by a giant fan on the inside of the UFO. It's pretty obvious if ur curious about things and find the actual truth.

Hmm, never heard of Area 51 until just now! :o

I may have heard of it, but never bothered to look it up.

Like I said, government or aliens. ;)

And to your story(s): I believe in Jesus, also, so if you say it happened, and you have a witness for one of the occasions, then sure I believe you. I've heard of some weird stuff and saying what you said may have made it stop, or not, I really don't know, and actually don't want to know. :P

I just wonder why there are so many atheists around these days... How can you not believe in ANYthing? :o

But meh, it's my opinion, of course. ;)

Enlightenment. It was an age where things such as information became more widespread (previousy held only by people in power) and religions grasp on polatics started to loosen. As such people could openly question the bible without being murdered. These days most people can read, write ect.

Also add in the rise of science. Evidence. Logic. Things such as cameras are everywhere these days, and magicians as entertainers have started to speak out against people using their methods to con people out of their money.

Long story short, people question. We know stuff. These people (religious/paranormal believers) don't question, and do logically stupid things. Religion is less about faith in god, but rather faith in people. Ghosts and UFOs are nice plug for gaps in people knowlage for those to ignorrant or lazy to research the facts.

Lastly, there is the whimsy factor. Let's face it, life is boring. UFO and Ghost hunting is exciting. You have men in black chasing you down, your the one hero to save the people ect ect ect. It's basicly LARPing or Alturnate reality games with the added bonus of it not being a fantasy. It's real to them.

EDIT

To clarify. In the past, there was alot of luck involved in life, and so having faith gave you a feeling of control. Religion became all powerful. Over time we learned stuff, knowlage worked it's way into the hands of the working class. These days most people can survive pretty easy. Faith has no reason any more.

These days, life is less random, but boring. All the exciting stuff needs money and/or specialist knowlage that can take decades to get. Paranormal beliefs are exciting and fun, but it's a game taken to far. Escapism isn't enough, they have to believe.

Wow, that's a really weird bit of views there. But interesting. :)

And if you're a true Christian, then you don't consider it a religion, and it isn't a "religion". You believe in Him and that's it. You said it's more about believing in people, haha I say to that. If you truly are a Christian then you believe in God more than anything.

But meh, let's not turn this into a religion debate topic. They are very infamous on any forum.

But UFO and ghost hunting is exciting. :P

Oddly enough I had a similar argument like this recently, and even started a thread on it in the adult board. I will say this though. Christianity, or any other religion, is fine as long as they accept not every one cares about joining your club, and that not every one should play by your clubs rules.

Can I just say one thing, really? Christianity has no "rules". And we're not a "club". Ugh.

Now, back on topic. :P

And why on the adult boards? That subject should be open to anyone. ;)

It's against the boards rules, also religion is a club, a cult, a group, whatever you want to call it, with rules/comandments/morals/beliefs/standards ect.

When you break it down, it's all just a list of things you should and shouldn't do, with examples.

One word this time...

NO.

And if it's against the board rules then never mind. ;)

And I don't want to get banned for being off-topic, so... :P

Somewhat back on topic... though I could go for a raspberry smirnoff...

Anyone here who has said they believe in aliens or UFOs should probably read James Michener's "Space." He calculates the chances that sentient life exists and that we would be able to communicate with them, never mind the possibility they would appear mysteriously and leave without contact. In other words, it may be very possible that an alien civilization exists, but the chances are very very very very remote that we would have any contact with them. Ever.

My girlfriend believes in "spirits." Her culture is Chinese, mine is Western (Puerto Rican, Polish, and Italian) so I do believe in ghosts. I think we believe in the same thing. My reasoning is in the basis of the Law of Conservation. Humans are made up of three parts, Body, Mind, and Soul. When the Body dies, all its matter goes into the earth and disintegrates, becoming dust in a box, or new material for other living things. When the Soul (the collection of your moral, and ethical decision based on a moral standard, not one that we can ever know) has to leave the body, I'm not sure what happens to it, to be honest. I think all religions are wrong when it comes to afterlife. But I'd imagine that this life is practice for the next one. So when we die, our experiences lead to the challenges and victories (or failures) of our next life. We're not reincarnated on earth, but in some other realm. Call it Heaven is you absolutely want. The Mind (which is a collection of all our knowledge, memories, and emotions) simply cannot disappear. I believe it remains on the earth as an ethereal form. It can never fully disappear, but without a body, neither can it be seen, felt, heard, smelt, etc. However, they can influence dreams, decisions, and chance events. Most will exist in a peaceful state (see Thornton Wilder's "Our Town") but some will have a duty left incomplete, a grudge still held, or a promise unkept and thus remain to see it through.

Not to mention I used to live next door to the house from "A Haunting in Connecticut."

I see no reason why a dinosaur that refuses to submit to senescence couldn't exist in Loch Ness. There are turtles that live for millenia, why not a "monster"? As for the Yeti and Big Foot, well I won't hold my breath. Vampires? No.

Most of vampire folklore comes from Christian mythology. The original Vampire is a cursed Judas, so to speak.

- Crucifix, self explanatory

- Can only kill with a stake because Judas already hung himself

- Submits to sunlight to not submit to the light of God

- Fears mirrors because mirrors used to be silver backed (he sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver)

- Desires blood as Judas sold out his friend for his blood

So classic Dracula-style Vampires might be a cool thought, but they are entirely fictional.

Jesus and Buddha I do believe in, however. They're the two religious figures that did not demand submission and worship of them before they said "Serve if you are to be served" and then performed it. I do believe we get to meet both of them after death.

Other than that, I pretty much believe in the recorded history.

 i know Icy...its cool

i think the place i work is haunted......

Ex: a crew person and myself are working overnight. After we take out the trash, we come back in through the lobby (same way we went out) next thing you know we hear the back door alarm going off. we both rush back there to catch the culprit (checking the freezers, office, ect.) turns out that the dummy switch (pretty much you press it to see if the alarm is on or off depending on the opposite result you get) was pushed in...and tucked to the left O_o, we were both outside....and no one else was in the building....

That is weird.

I know light-switches come on and off on their own every now and then. I just assume they were left "half on-half off" and don't worry about it. :P

But I know a few people who have seen beds and furniture moved around in their attic from the last time they were up there. I DO believe spirits/whatever exist, if you're wondering. And they do that stuff. Don't really know why, though. :?

TO FREAK US OUT!!

I still say NO to all of that. ;)

I just read SilverPhantom's post and wow, he says some interesting things in there. Not saying that I believe it, but it is interesting...
