Street Fighter 2010.

Until I beat it, then I could beat

it anytime after that.

And G.I. Joe Atlantis Factor,

again, once I beat it I could beat

any boss, anytime.

Both are NES games.

00 agent mode in Goldeneye 007.  At the time I was 14 and could only beat about half of the levels on the hardest difficulty setting.

the SNES Aliens vs. Predator beat-em-up.

The final boss, the Queen Alien, can chain hit you until you die sometimes. Usually inescapable unless you get lucky.

(Though I did watch a video where a guy beat it on the hardest difficulty with one life, and he wasn't good, just super damned lucky. And one of the things was the Queen Alien, he'd hit her with the plasmacaster, and she'd look at him for several seconds while he charges it again, while every time I play it, she's already sprinting across the screen the second she lands).

Here's the video of the deathless playthrough on expert, and you can see the Queen fight (Which annoys me because it's the exact opposite of what I do, she also gets right in his face and hits him once, if at all. For me, she hits from about 20 feet away with her long arms, and keeps swinging em until you die.)

No game made me feel it was impossible unless it truly was through a glitch, but many made me think they were hard. Touhou, Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix, I wanna be the Guy, and other such games count as such.

I wanna be the guy had glitches programed in?

Any game where it autosaves you with either bad gear, low health or both.

I remember playing Super Mario World when I was younger and getting to Bowser and never being able to beat him.

After a couple of years, I finally beat him one morning before the school bus came and I freaked out.

Oh, come on!  Everyone was a kid once.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves

Still can't take out the lightbulbs so I can fight Neyla...

Sly 2 came out on the NES??  What year is it?  What universe am I in?

Advance Wars Days of Ruin.

I'm still stuck on the level 'A Hero's Farewell', I like the game, but that level has driven me CRAZY! I've stopped playing it just because of that level!

Advance wars 2

Yeah, I hate that game. Trying to get A ranks without a guide. Impossable. You have to the exact intended build order and placement.

Oh man, I remember that, specially on that train level, in where you needed to do a fast freaking sniper shot to one of the bad guys in order to get more time to escape.

I guess I must go for perfect dark on the hardest difficulty, I was never able to beat all the levels like that. Then again, I was a young fool back then  :P

Xenogears was pretty challenging.  It took me 3 days to figure out what little spinning orbs where which ones to fight the boss in exactly the right order.

How could I forget, Castlevania: Lament of the Innocent. Like most Castlevania games, the last boss is actually a succession of bosses, increasing in difficulty. This game has three, and the first is the vampire of the castle. He can be kind of hard, but not too bad (I can beat him without getting touched). After beating him, I have to fight... Death him effing self. I can not even land a single hit on him, he just sweeps his unblockable scythe across the arena, or boomerang throws it (still unblockable), and you can't jump over it, as it rises with you. These hits take about 3/4 of your health each. I have come so incredibly close to throwing my controller through my T.V. before. And after him, I have to fight the actual last boss (Unless the devil or something comes out after Death), who I imagine is even harder than Death (Unless it pulls a Star Fox Adventures and the boss dies via cutscene).

I may be wrong, but I thought Parodius was actually one of the easiest shmups around, though I suppose that'd still be hard compared to other genres.

Well... actually the game IS quite buggy. Frequent crashes, Kraidgeif, so on.

My point was the game is designed in such a way you can't complete it without exploiting glitches.

Really? I don't remember anything like this.

Must be a rumor then.

Definately. The game has glitches but never requires you to use anything that doesn't follow the rules of a normal platformer.
