Sabre
There's been some confusion here in the past, and on other forums I post at about how mods work. With so many Starfox mods being promised, and my upcoming source mod night, I want to explain how mods work, and how Gmod is the exception.First off, to play a mod, you have to have the game it's built on. Think of mods as cool car upgrades. you need to own the car you want to put upgrades on.A few mods such as Gmod and Obsidian Conflict, piggy back on serval games at once. They will work with just 1 game, but you will be missing much of the content. In OC, you can only play through the games that you own. In Gmod, you can only build with stuff from the games that you own.Mods can be about anything within the limits of the game it's based. Gmod is about building stuff. Obsidien Conflict is about playing through the single player game with friends. Kursed is about shooting stuff ect.Mods are free with the exception of Gmod. They are labours of love and made by a small group in their spare time usually to the quality of a big budget game. Sven Co-op has been in the works for 12 years and it's still not finished. As a result many mods get started, but few finish as most simply don't have the comitment.
Asper Sarnoff
I'll urge whoever who's experience with mods are quite limited, to have a look around the interweb for some of the better ones for the games they own. Believe me when I say they can be HUGE fun. Boy have I had a lot of extra fun when I've modded my games, even just with tiny changes.
