Well, that is pretty much of it.

My favourite Historical times are the WWI

and the WWII. Especially WWI, it had a more...

'Romantic' touch to it. Also during those the bases

for today's society was build, even if in a distant

way.

Now, what are 'Your' favourites?

Ancient Egypt?, Industrial Revolution?

The era that I like to study the most would have to be WWII, there is something about those events that just fascinates me.

My favorite time period is around the time of the American Revolution. It just fascinates me on how such a small (and pretty much powerless) country defeated the greatest military powerhouse at the time.

Otherwise, i'd choose napoleonic. Napoleon was one of the greatest tacticians the world has ever seen. Plus, i've always liked the French army (though i don't know why).

By the seat of their pants with help from the French. The war being unpopular in Britain helped some too, not that it was any moreso in the colonies. The states almost DIDN'T win, so take that as you will.

Anyway, I'm an omnihistoryfag. No era interests me more or less, although I have special affection for AD Roman Empire, the medieval middle east and asia, the 17th-19th centuries, and the Cold War.

I like those days, and the Roaring '20's as well.

I prefer prehistoric, especially the early Cretaceous period, when my favourite dinosaur roamed the lands (It's the Utahraptor, by the way.)

Prehistoric time, particulary the periods of Trias, the Jurassic, and the Cretaceus eara, and the pre-christian viking age.

Dinosaurs never cease to amaze me. They not only look cool, but...well...they look cool.

Middle ages is awesome - I like basically almost everything about it. Kings, Knights, Wars, you name it.

I like the pre-atomic, and the digital era.  WWII is a great subject to learn about, and the digital age is ELECTRONIC GALORE! :D

These options seem rather skewed to a Western cultural perspective...  Besides, I don't think there was any writing until the Chalcolithic, after the Neolithic had ended.

Anyway, I prefer things that are timeless. ^_^

For obvious reasons.  Most everyone here is from the Western World :)  However if you can throw up some Non-Western periods of time then by all means... :)

The Dark Ages were a crappy time to be alive, and they set us back technology wise, HOWEVER, without the Dark Ages, we would not have had the great art that was inspired by/from the Dark Ages, during the Renaissance/Age of Enlightenment that followed it (After all, you sure as hell wouldn't want something like "Andre the Giant" painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, now would you?  No, of course not! ).

Okay, #1, there are a lot of war were the winner almost "didn't" win. That means nothing.

#2 You are right about the French, and they were a very valuable ally. However, we wouldn't of lost the war had they not sent us any troops. We had Spain attacking from the south, and the Continentals dominated the war in the North. (Aside from New York).

#3 Are you trying to say that the war wasn't popular in the Britain? Yes, that would be correct... somewhat. The king was distraught when Britain lost the colonies. Parliament was dumbstruck. Half the population in Britain couldn't believe that the strongest military in the world lost to a bunch of rag-tag militia.

Yes, I am saying the war was unpopular in Britain. King George's persistence to pursue the war even though it wasn't really generating results left the population of Britain very much annoyed, as did parliament because it was wasting time and money, no to mention at the time it was a civil war, as it was Englishman VS Englishman.

These options seem rather skewed to a Western cultural perspective...  Besides, I don't think there was any writing until the Chalcolithic, after the Neolithic had ended.

Chinese history in paticular interests me, namely the Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties and the Republican Era. I also enjoy Turkish history and early medieval Berber history, the interactions between the old middle east and the Roman Empire/Gothic kingdoms.

The "Dirt Ages" is a hilariously popular misconception over the early medieval period. It was not "backwards", even though some technology (like concrete) was lost from the Romans, it was a very progressive forward movement that eventually lead into the Renaissance. The notion of the Renaissance just popping out of nowhere and suddenly there was "intelligence" is wrong.

So, none of them except maybe the prehistoric times? Because all those eras are pretty much defined by some war or another.

I mean the World war eras, primarily because they are much, much focused on wars
