I couldn't find Vixy's name.  I'm not even sure that's actually her name in Japanese.  Maybe only Benimaru Itoh knows.

It also isn't sure if its a planet or a sun, and if its a sun, how well it can support life. It was a red dwarf in 64, but its similar to our sun in Command.

Not to mention systems are named after their suns, so by all rights its name should be "Lylat".

Also, Pepa-Shogun made me lol heartily.

I always find it fun to try and pronounce Japanese words. Thanks for posting this Dermot.

Sora with a short o means sky.  Vowel length is phonemic and distinctive in Japanese.

Why?  Shougun simply means "general" (rank) in Japanese.  Always has. :3 The historical period of the shogunate was a military junta.

Also, Lylat and Solar are separate.  If Solar is truly a red dwarf star, that would make the Lylat system a binary system.

Painful memories of when I used to know this crap from anime. Urg. It is great when an anime fanboy starts doing the whole "iche no bakka" thing and you point out you know what they are saying.

You imagine general P. all dressed up like a medieval shogun and tell me you don't laugh to yourself some.

And if Lylat(the star) and Solar are seperate, then why do the planets ORBIT SOLAR?

Actually, nevermind. Science and Starfox don't mix.

I can see how their orbits can be influenced by Solar, but my understanding is that Solar orbits around Lylat as if it were a superjupiter.

It may straddle the boundary between red dwarf and brown dwarf anyway - just large enough to ignite, but small enough to have a planet-like orbit. :3

That map, while cool, is not official. All we have seen of Lylat in the games is listed here. In 64 and in Command, the planets seem to be orbiting Solar.

Now, if you have official sources to back this map up, then I will gladly eat my hat. And Solar is called a red dwarf in the SF64 strategy guide.

Lylat (Star)

Solar couldn't be an adequate planetary sun.  No life-supporting planets can be bound to a red dwarf without being tidally-locked (same face always facing the star) and habitable only at the light/dark margin ring (which is a narrow band of planetary surface as it is).  No, you need something more like a main sequence star to support the habitable planets as seen in the Lylat System.

That wiki article has no source, I read it. I NEED A SOURCE. The fact that Solar can't support life doesn't amount to a hill of beans in a game series filled with single-climate planets, telepathic ape heads, noise in space, and black holes that work like warp zones.

Maybe it's like my theory of how the Mario series is totally realistic - they're all high on hallucinogenic mushrooms and flowers all the time. :3

We did actually have a discussion about the nature of Solar in a thread some time ago.

While we never really come an agreeing conclusion, most of the debatants, me included, believed there was more evidence to support Solar being a planet than a star.

Bur for now, in this thread, back on topic again please.
