The classics you've never played

or have no wish to.

I asked this before iirc but with more games and fresh meat, I thought I'd ask it again.

These are either classics you didn't like despite wide acclaim, games you didn't play because they weren't your thing, or maybe you didn't have the money. This is the thread to talk about them.

I'll start with Okami. I'm not a fan of zelda games, and I'm not a graphics junkie, so the idea of playing a sub par zelda with nice graphics has no appeal for me at all. I also find it a bumb game in that it took them this long to realise a game about drawing should be on DS.

One game I played but never liked is Final Fantasy 7. Im not talking just an hour, but 3 discs of the bloody thing. I don't like JRPGs, but I've lost friends over not liking this game (although I cant say I miss them) Every single piece of this game is a horrid mess from the story and characters to the gameplay and menus, but people love it and I have no idea why.

Interesting. Well, I'll say the "classics" I haven't played are....

Halo (And no I don't want to either.)

Mass Effect (Really want to when I get around to it.)

Gears of War (Kinda want to.)

Silent Hill (Definitely want to.)

Left 4 Dead (Again Definitely want to.)

Okami (I should real soon. I bought the damn game already)

As you can tell, these are all the newer age classics. Most of these titles are due to the fact that I didn't have an interest in them at first but after seeing some gameplay I wanted to try it out for myself. I actually took the time to play all the older classics when I didn't have classes in my recessions from class. There's more I believe but that's in time for the new games to come.

The first Halo hasn't aged well.

Silent Hill 1 is fantastic. Definatly check it out.

L4D, if you've not played it, get 2, it's better.

^There's a story timeline in L4D? I get peeved when I play games out of order. LOL.

Yeah, I'd figure when I could scrounge up some more cash, I'd buy SH1 on PSNetwork.

No. Stories are parallel. Gameplay wise, they are to samy to make it worth playing them in order. L4D is light on story anyway, again, 2 has more, but 1 is only worth it if you become a superfan of the L4D fiction.

^Ah, okay cool. I wouldn't mind L4D2 first.

Y'know, I didn't play the Mega Man series. No original, X, Legends, Command, Zero, etc. I heard they're pretty hard but I wanna try to.

My opinion? Overrated. They were good back in the day, but by todays standards they are awful. Without the nostalgia they fall flat.

Haven't played most of the Zelda games (only played Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Windwaker), though I wouldn't mind playing them.

Haven't played Earthbound, or F-Zero, or earlier Metroids, though I wouldn't mind these either.

Wait. You're excited for splatterhouse but never played the originals?

Oh man. You're going to be so disappointed.

Just a word of advice. 2 is the most iconic, 3 is the most fun.

^Ah, I see. Thanks for the Megaman bit. That can be put on the backburner.

Oh you know what else? I haven't played any of the Metal Gear/Solid series. I dunno stealth is not my thing. Plus, I've watched my friend play it and it takes her like 20+ minutes for a freaking boss battle. I don't even know if that's the standard or whatever.

Also, the famed Orange Box. I don't even know but I'm curious. There's so much hype in these threads about HL2 and TF2. In fact what about Team Fortress 1? I never even heard of that. When did that come out?

Many of the MMOs I haven't played because I'm more console than PC. But ain't the orange box for X360 alongside PC?

It is for Xbox 3Shitty, Playstation 3, and PC, but the best deal is for PC, since TF2 on it is not updated, and HL2 stops at episode two on there, meaning you're missing one.

Wait. How do you know what's going on?

Well the first thing is Half Life 2 really doesn't need Half Lfe 1 to tell its story beyond knowing who Gordon , the GMan, and Black Mesa.

The other thing would be lolHalfLifewiki.

Don't worry;  I've watched videos of people actually playing them.  I somewhat like 2 better.

I disagree. That game has alot of interplay between factions. The Xenians, for example, used to be slaves, which gorden freed, but also kicked off the 7 hour war. While the Zorts thank gorden for that, they also "Cannot forgive you for the ones whos cords you cut" ie. The hunderds of Vorts you killed. Also why gorden is viewed as a hero despite causing all this in the first place.

Well, yah, there is that, but thats a missable detail that's not needed to enjoy the game as a whole. For the msot part, HL2 doesn't need HL1.

I wantto play Earthbound. Not a very big RPG fan (Zelda and sometimes Pokemon, but that's really it), but it looks cool, not to mention I read it pokes fun at American culture a bit (I love laughing at myself a bit).
